Another Arrest In Humanitarian-Tainted Scam Program

AP;

The former United Nations oil-for-food chief was charged Tuesday with bribery and conspiracy to commit wire fraud for his role in the scandal-tainted humanitarian program.

The charges against Benon Sevan, 69, of Nicosia, Cyprus, were contained in a rewrite of an indictment stemming from the scandal over the operation set up from 1996 to 2003 to permit the Iraqi government to sell oil primarily to buy food and medicine for suffering Iraqis.

[...]

Federal and state prosecutors also announced the indictment of Ephraim Nadler, 79, of Manhattan, on the same charges. He helped a coconspirator obtain the right to buy Iraqi oil under the program in exchange for commissions from the oil sales and then funneled approximately $160,000 of these oil commissions to Sevan, the indictment said. Nadler is the brother-in-law of former U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

On Feb. 22, South Korean businessman Tongsun Park is scheduled to be sentenced for his conviction on charges he accepted at least $2 million to serve Iraq's interests in the scandal. He could face up to five years in prison.

So when is Maurice Strong's ass going to get thrown jail. Paul Martin's mentor.

He is presently hiding out in China

Posted by: notasocialist at January 16, 2007 6:24 PM

And when is Koffi Annan going to get his ass nailed for his part?

Posted by: OMMAG at January 16, 2007 6:28 PM

We should all remember that the real name for this program was Oil for Bribes. It had nothing to do with helping Iraq's children. It is now time that the various Canadian entities that were party to this program should be investigated. Further information about these parties can be seen at http://www.iic-offp.org/

Remember that many of those involved with this program, and designing it are the same ones who thought up Kyoto. I imagine their original plan was to scam kyoto funds the same way as the food program, and fully expected to con the public. It almost worked. dions dream of becoming pm, on his green program to rape alberta will turn out to be his and the liberals worst nightmare. We just have to wait for him to insult the maritimes with some stmt that it is bad for the economy for their men to go and work for money. Report on cbc, quebec lost 10,000 people last year to other provinces.

And wasn't it a check for about 500,000 made out to Strong, and cashed, signed by Tonsun, that was published in many papers. How long before some of these guys turn on Strong, PowerCorp, Martin and Chretain. Bet dion is sweating green co2.

The answer to notasocialist's and OMMAGG's collective question is easily answered...

When Winged Pigs Fly and/or Canadian prime Ministers actually speak our national language. (or at least 1 of them fluently)

A major UN player was indicted today in the United Nation's Oil-for-Food-Scandal. Benon Sevan steped down from his UN post when investigations began. A Canadian, Maurice Strong, also steped down when under investigation for a related Oil for Food scandal, cashing a million dollar check from another UNer, Tongsun Park. Park is in jail waiting sentencing Feb 22. Not sure where Strong is ???

ZiLLa ...Harper does speak both languages fluently and he is the PM.....so when?

Posted by: OMMAG at January 16, 2007 8:13 PM

The CBC is all tied up today promoting US-dollar bank accounts as a human right.

B Hoax aware - Well said. May I add my voice to yours. Kate has brought us facts, commentary by informed people and links - the others mentioned by yourself - Communist propaganda aka Liberano/Dipper spin.

The Power Corps outfit, some prominent Americans, Koffy Annan , Russia, Germany, France, maybe China, some rich Brits and others were up to their armpits in this mud and blood scam that was a set-up to get Iranian oil for rock bottom prices as long as it was cash and weapons to Saddam Hussain.

Thank-you John Bolton and John Hawkins for reporting this criminal activity, thank-you Kate and all other websites who printed it. Justice might be coming out of her slumber. Welcome back.

I must have got trapped in the spam filter..
But to restate what I had to say earlier..
1) The UN Independent Inquiry is shut down...no more inquiry permitted for 2 years...WHY? HOW?

2) AS for our MSM..go to CBC and read the piece by Tony Burman editor in chief of CBC news on how surprised he is that technology is taking the "Journalistic Agenda" (his words) out of the hands of folks like himself. AGENDA in the MSM is Reality.

this one must have felt like a pipewrench twist to the nuts for the editor of CBCpravda today. its completely the opposite of their internal dogma.

ah Mr.Boutros Boutros-Ghali. what is it the chinese say... "the fish rots from the head" ?

cal2, I followed your link and I was shocked! That's a true "Flying Pigs Moment"! The CBC publishing an article acknowledging that "some Arab states" back Bush's strategy in Iraq!

Of course, "some" in CBC-speak means "every Arab state except Syria, Libya and Iran" ... OK, Iran is Persian, not Arab ... but you know what I mean.

I'm really surprised the Comrades at the CBC didn't studiously ignore the story, like they did today's UN Oil-for-Graft indictment.

BTW, did you know Kofi Annan covered Sevan's ass on this when the scandal and Sevan's involvement originally broke? Annan put Sevan on paid administrative leave when this hit the fan, "pending the outcome of the UN's own investigation" which happened to last long enough for Sevan to retire on the full UN pension.

A peripheral point worth mentioning: There are paper trail records proving that Sevan had some of his payoffs from Oil-for-Graft laundered through the bank account of an elderly aunt living in Cyprus. Pretty big sums of money for an old lady living on a modest old age pension. During the early days of the investigation, the elderly aunt had a fatal, ahem, "accident" and fell down the elevator shaft in her apartment building.

Im waiting for a published picture of Moe Strong being yarded out of a rathole ala Saddam Hussien.

and Cretien saying he is innocent until "da proof is da proven"

or Steff " Maurice Strong is da piples most grein man to stop da glowbal warmings an close down da der tee oyal indust tree."

I have to practice the funny cadence Steff Dion has.

No liberal politician or politicos will go to jail!
Ever!
Anywhere!
Only their patsy "business men" will do time.

It's carved in stone at the back of some dark cave under a slimy green rock were they, and all their slimy judges they appoint come from.
