They Bought Him For "Peanuts"

"It's hard to read..."

Alan Dershowitz's denunciation of former President Jimmy Carter without getting a sinking feeling. Dershowitz summarizes the huge sums which investigative journalists now say Jimmy Carter received from Arab and Islamic sources. And they are considerable. The Saudis bailed out his peanut farm in 1976. The infamous BCCI and Saudi billionaire Gaith Pharaon actually helped with the startup funding of the Carter Center. Carter himself is quoted fulsomely thanking Sheik Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, the long time ruler of the UAE, for donating half a million dollars. From what is known Carter has received tens of millions of dollars from Arab and Islamic sources. And that, argues Dershowitz, is behind the former President's tireless campaigning against Israel. He says so in the most brutal and accusatory terms: "Carter ... has been bought and paid for by anti-Israel Arab and Islamic money." But it is one of Dershowitz's sources, Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, who provides the most food for thought: "seems that AIPAC's (American-Israel Political Action Committee) real fault was its failure to outdo the Saudi's purchases of the former president's loyalty". The sinking feeling is the realization that this is what political viewpoints might come down to.

In 2004, the former President publicly accused Georgia Democrat Zell Miller of "unprecedented disloyalty" - for the crime of speaking at the Republican convention.

I'm a fan of Dershowitz and Carter...and I believe that Sheik Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan accomplished amazing progress in the Middle East, just ask any of the Canadians living there now.
Why are people surprised whith news that politicians can be bought? The best recent example of this is the scandal with Bill and Hillary Clinton. While her highness was in lobbying to stop an Arab based company from buying US ports her hubby, Bill Clinton, was on that very same company's payroll acting as an advisor to help lobby in favor of the purchase.

ADB:

"I'm a fan of Dershowitz and Carter..."

Huh?

Your defense of the indefensible and callous assertion that we should all understand that politicians can be bought and paid for reminds me of the true definition of a cynic:

Someone that knows the price of everything... and the value of nothing.

I don't think ii makes sense to use the phrase "investigative journalists" or truth when talking about the Moonies' Washington Times.

I've always stated that I wish Carter an exceptionally long lifespan. Each morning that person awakens and eats a bit more of his own soul with regrets and envy. I wish this process to continue as long as possible, such an incompetent life deserves nothing less.

Neal Sher was on a repeat of Adler tonight talking about Jimmy Carter. An exerpt from a Dec 26 article in JTA news;

"That’s why I was so taken aback by the personal, handwritten note Jimmy Carter sent to me seeking “special consideration” for this Nazi SS murderer. There on the upper-right corner of Bartesch’s daughter’s letter was a note to me in the former president’s handwriting, and with his signature, urging that “in cases such as this, special consideration can be given to the families for humanitarian reasons.”" http://www.jta.org/page_view_story.asp?intarticleid=17423&intcategoryid=3

Sher also links Carter to the Saudi Royal house, as well as Saudi links and financing of The Carter Foundation, which saw many prominent members resign in protest over his latest book.

From an interview with Chris Mathews on Hardball;

Carter: So the persecution of the Palestinians now, under the occupying territories—under the occupation forces—is one of the worst examples of human rights deprivation that I know. And I think it‘s—

SHUSTER: Even worse, though, than a place like Rwanda?

CARTER: Yes. I think—yes. You mean, now?

SHUSTER: Yes.

CARTER: Yes.

SHUSTER: The oppression now of the Israelis—of the Palestinians by the Israelis is worse than the situation in Africa like the oppression of Rwanda and the civil war?

CARTER: I‘m not going back into ancient history about Rwanda, but right now, the persecution of the Palestinians is one of the worst examples of human rights abuse I know, because the Palestinians—

SHUSTER: You‘re talking about right now, you‘re not talking about say, a few years ago.

CARTER: I‘m not talking about ancient history, no.

SHUSTER: Rwanda wasn‘t ancient history; it was just a few years ago.

CARTER: You can talk about Rwanda if you want to. I want to talk

about Palestine. What is being done to the Palestinians now is horrendous"

Imagine that! Palestine compared to the murder of almost a million people in less than a year!

Jimmy does not recognize that Palestine was both an Arab and a Jewish state. He only seems to recognize the Arab. But as any good historian knows Palestine was peopled with Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Check the record of the Jewish Brigade.

As with all hypocrites, he blames the Jews for everything and although he claims his new book is factual, it is replete with errors and ommissions.

There is a review of his book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid"in the New York Sun by Alan Dershowitz that details a few of these.http://www.nysun.com/article/43958

It may be that Carter is an anti-semite, it may be that he is growing old and senile or it may be that as his time draws near, he sees his presidency portrayed in it's true light. The most ineffectual presidency of the twentieth century. The failure of the Camp David Accord, his failure in Iran, his failure in North Korea. His legacy is replete with failure.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
May God have mercy on you, Mr. Carter.

And Saudi Arabia is a staunch US ally. But Bush isn't anti-Israel. Go figger.

Posted by: Dr.Dawg at January 14, 2007 8:28 AM

So the Saudi's pay him off in 1976 so he'll become their pipe organ 30 years in the future? Smoke another one.

Posted by: Jose at January 14, 2007 10:45 AM

Zell Miller's speech at the convention was not only the high point and brought down the house, quite a few times, but is one of the best speeches in the last 20 years. If you missed it, the video is here.

“So the Saudi's pay him off in 1976 so he'll become their pipe organ 30 years in the future?”

Don’t be so “American” Jose. Some cultures make lifetime investments and can see past the third quarter results.

Grounds for putting Jimmy Carter on trial for treason I would say.

Where is Christopher Hitchens when you need him?

Posted by: Billy Beer at January 14, 2007 12:14 PM

Finally, the truth has hit me. Jimmy Carter was a terrible president, (knew that from the beginning) and his legacy is not good. Democrats and media elected him. That is why the democrats and media have been on such a Bush hate. They want to remove Carter as the worst president in history and replace his name with Bush.

Posted by: mary T. at January 14, 2007 12:45 PM

I condemn Carter for being on the take. But what about the Bush family and their cozy relations with the Islamofascist-sponsoring Saudis? As someone's already noted, Bush supports Israel but also ignores the threat of Wahabbism, with its evil "religious schools" festering throughout the Islamic world and, these days, also beyond it, and the fact nearly all of the 9-11 hijackers were Saudi and bin Laden is Saudi.

Posted by: Mark Bourrie at January 14, 2007 1:00 PM

So, Mark, what do you think Bush should do, destroy the entire American economy by boycotting Saudi oil?

Bush knows they are snakes. We all know they are snakes. It's called reality. Our economy can't survive without Saudi oil at this point. You make the best of what you can.

This is the same Dhimmi Carter that appeared on cbcPravda a few months back and called our government "criminal" for refusing to fund the Ham-ass terrorists.

Given his earlier reputation as a humanitarian, I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the time and concluded he had simply become senile. So now the truth emerges!

Posted by: felis corpulentis at January 14, 2007 1:55 PM

Sen. Zell Miller has that old time Southern baptists' ability to make the great political speech, reminds me somewhat of Rev. John Hagee, of the Cornerstone Church, in Corpus Christie. Wow!

Regardless of whether one agrees with Mr. Miller, I would definitely want him speaking for my political Party, come election time.

His points about the great Democrat Presidents of past eras rings true, they seem to have been replaced with weak kneed wafflers. There sure is no FDR, or Harry Truman in the Dems ranks now.

Greta link, Miller said what needed to be said.

Too bad we have so few politicians who really believe in our Country.

Hysterical jew insists that Carter is bought. Of course, when Carter points to the purchasers of Congress, he's an anti-semite. Having everything both ways is pretty much the essence of judaism.

Posted by: fg at January 14, 2007 6:34 PM

I guess the Bush family has the distinction of commanding a higher price from Saudi royalty before selling out.

Posted by: Ted at January 14, 2007 7:12 PM

So what, 30 years later the pundits and bloggers are slagging Jimmy Carter? Is that the best you can do? In the meantime, Shrub is destroying what's left of the Constitution, but, no worries, I've got mine Jack.

So what, 30 years later the pundits and bloggers are slagging Jimmy Carter?

He is currently using his substantial prominence to cause damage. That is worth criticizing.

In the meantime, Shrub is destroying what's left of the Constitution

Aahhh, moonbat ravings. How lovely.

Posted by: randall g at January 14, 2007 7:55 PM

Let's be clear about this: the SRPPP ,[Saudi Retired Politicans Pension Plan] is a bi-partisan affair. Both parties are up to their eyeballs in Saudi dough. And as to the comment above that we need their oil, yeah sure, but they need to sell it too. The pols don't need to be bought and sold by those rotten bastards to buy oil at the market. That's a duck.

The topic here is Jimmah's contemptible hypocrisy: his Saint Jimmah schtick about the Israel Lobby directing the justly critical onslaught against his ridiculous jew-hating screed while he has been financed by Arab-Saudi money all the way back to the mid 70s.

And yes, the Arabs do think long term. In decades!

I agree with you, rightwingprof. Zell Miller spoke right from his heart to mine. I was overwelmed with gratitude and admiration for his honesty. It was an incredable feeling to be so moved by a speech; Zell Miller gave me hope.

I still agree with Zell Miller and I support George W. Bush. If the traitor Kerry had won that election..I don't even think about it; I'm just glad it did not happen.
