From the comments;
'Just to let people know that Canada Post is sending parcels to soldiers in Af'stan for free. I've adopted a soldier through www.canadianangels.org--Wendy Sullivan put this organization together; check out the site. Canada Post is allowing parcels to be sent free until the middle of January.Check with the Armed Forces or Wendy first, before putting a package together, because you may need a specific name and rank in order to send things. But it's probably not too late to put Merry back in Christmas for a lonely soldier.
Update - This CF News Release has more.
Posted by Kate at December 18, 2006 10:05 PMThe CF has a news release today (18 Dec) regarding this.
http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/newsroom/view_news_e.asp?id=2171
They specifically request no packages addressed to 'Any CF Member' but cards, letters or postcards instead. They also suggest sending online messages and offer the links to these.
B'nai Brith also has "Operation Thank You" for those so inclined:

Not sure how we can adequately thank those who risk their lives to prevent terrorists from coming over here and murdering our loved ones. Canadian Angels and Operation Thank You could be a small start.
because of logistics and security concerns, it is suggested by cdn mil personnel you keep the packages to letters of encouragement etc. nothing bulky.
