Today’s Lesson In World History

In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth. And the Earth was without form and void. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be beer." And there was beer.

Followed by agriculture, the invention of the wheel, girlymen and the domestication of cats. Amen.

I knew it!!
The evolution of civil society began with beer.
Makes sense to me.
I am going to clain a small part in this evolution, in that i invented HAPPY HOUR.
A very honorable tradition, which i heartily recommend.
(Well, geez..... if al gore can claim the patent on the internet........)

LOL

Yeah, beer could be the cause of it.

(Incidentally, Kate. Happy Birthday, and I like your new picture, but I'm wondering who your friend is.)

As well as I can make out, I think it's interesting that this distinctively liberal type in contemporary society seems to be a new cultural phenomenon, at least here in the US.

Think about movie actors a generation ago. Clark Gable, Kirk Douglas, Gregory Peck, Steve McQueen, and so on.

And even with the actors that conspicuously played more sophisticated roles, one rarely if ever found the metrosexual type. Cary Grant and David Niven certainly played sophisticated gentlemen familiar with culture and the good things of life, but I don't think anyone imagined that they got their nails done or thought that North America should display weakness in the face of the enemy.

Even early rock singers like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis were not the kind of guys who would want to eat quiche or be caught singing falsetto.

So it's just an observation, but it does seem to me that this whole liberal type of character is a fairly new phenomenon, and one really wonders where he came from. (You know, it even strikes me that Rock Hudson, Tab Hunter, Troy Donohue, all of whom were gay, never seemed like this liberal metrosexual type we have today. So even the gays seemed more masculine.)

I wonder how all this got started...?

...where's the popcorn?

Posted by: tomax7 at December 17, 2006 1:35 AM

Greg, I think it all started with "political correctness". Where the hell that got started I don't know, but rather suspect the left leaning pinkos. I usually blame P.Trudeau for all such things, but there's a definite possibility that Tommy Douglas had a hand in it too. Since this is not specifically a Canadian trait I think it must have started in Europe. I think it's probably worse here than in your country, but not as bad as in Europe. I do know it's pretty digusting. Maybe it was the fanatical Womens Libbers. Like you, I dunno...........??

Upon giving it more thought I think we can rule out beer. Beer is good. The misuse of it is bad.

Posted by: Len Pryor at December 17, 2006 2:31 AM

The domestication of cats might have been a mistake too. The wheel is ok. Look what agriculture got us. The CWB that's what.

Posted by: Len Pryor at December 17, 2006 2:54 AM

Beer! Good for what ales you.

The natives have become such a hands off force that they can do just about anything they want.
Case in point. The snowmobile clubs in Ontario are NOT to stop any native and ask for their trail permit. They are free to run the trails without having to pay for any permits like the rest of us.
I bet there are other issues that we don't know about as well. :(

Funny stuff! I sent it, first to myself, then to a bunch of people on my e-mail list - including some liberals. I'm sure to get lots of comments. By the way "what next at" are you sure you are at the right place for your comments?

Beer is God's way of telling us he loves us ;-)

Liberals are God's way of showing us not all experiments turn out "right".

However I have a hard time with the visuals this parable painted of neolithic BarBQs with beer and venison and girly men prancing around hairdressing the hunters for food and eventuially turning into girls...brrrrrr...think I'll skip that camp and move to a village where the liberal girlie men are kept off the street when the men party.

The oldest known recipe in the world is Egyptian. And it's for beer. A culture which also produced the oldest known recipe for Liberals. Girly men with mascara and breasts.

Scott Reid, "...they'll spend it on beer and popcorn."

This, of course, is neanderathal, redneck behavior according to the latte and bubbly water sippers.

To paraphrase Sparky Lyle's remarks about how he would spend his World Series winner's share, when I have extra money, I immediately spend it on beer so that the money is no longer available for me to spend foolishly.

With popcorn, with pretzels, with sausage, by itself . . . what a wonderful beverage.

well now we know what is meant by the 'spirit' of God !!!

comes in a bottle varying 6% to 40% alcohol !!! LOL !!!

Greg in Dallas;

I blame Judy garland & Barbara Striesand for the wussification of gay males & blitzing the rest of us normal guys with ther eefemicacy.

Even James Dean was more of a man's man in thoose days, compared to the herd today. He was gay too I hear. Than today’s metrosexuals like Woody Allen, & most of Hollywoods Nancy boy's. I believe they made being manly a sin or sign of insensitivity.

The rest of the feminists just wanted guys to feel safe around & talk about fashion. Plus there feelings. If not hgging them without sexual conitation.

By the way Irwin Daisy. Your right about the Egyptians. Only they got it from the Sumerians (We even have the recipe), who perhaps inherited it from Harappan Civilization.
A Northern Indian culture of 4600 Bc, on the sub continent. There is some evidence that the Sumerians where an early colony of them.

Revnant Dream,

Interesting. I recall reading an article claiming that the etymology of the partiarch Abraham's name was actually Brahman. He was from Ur of the Chaldees/Sumer.

Posted by: irwin daisy at December 17, 2006 3:13 PM

Revnant Dream,
I think you're right that some kind of excessive desire for "sensitivity" is part of the phenomenon.

I mean, can you really see Johnny Depp playing the love interest for Sophia Loren? Or playing William Holden's role in Bridge Over the River Kwai? Or even Rock Hudson's role in those funny movies with Doris Day, and Hudson was gay.

As I'm ruminated about this, so far I've only come up with one actor who would fit today's metrosexual category, and that would be Tony Perkins, whose character loved his mother too well in Psycho.

Posted by: Greg in Dallas at December 17, 2006 3:55 PM

whaddabout Johnny Depp - the metrosexual or worse "pirate."

Give me Robert Newton any day. more of a man with one leg than Depp and his mascara goofy efing beard in a month.

Beer doesn't kill people. People kill people.

Posted by: KevinB at December 18, 2006 5:52 AM

Actually beer was #1 because people found out that it was healtheir than drinking marsh water in the Garden of Eden.

By the way, beer was first brewed in Iraq, whose civilization has gone downhill since then.
