If you have the time, consider taking this survey of blog readers. Be sure to note at the beginning that you've accessed the survey page through SDA. It's a US based study, so be prepared for a few questions that refer to American politics. I'll be receiving information generated on the demographics, etc. of SDA readers, so I'd really appreciate you taking the time. It will take a few minutes.
Sorry! Link fixed. (Use the pull-down menu provided to find SDA)
Posted by Kate at November 29, 2006 8:53 PMSorry Kate, I couldn't see where to mark SDA at the beginning, went right to the survey.
Posted by: rebarbarian at November 29, 2006 8:00 PMSame here.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at November 29, 2006 8:06 PMI couldn't find where to put SDA at the beginning of the survey either. I did list it as the #1 blog (along with four others) when asked which blogs I most frequent.
Posted by: 'been around the block at November 29, 2006 8:09 PMSame here.
Interesting questions. I'd like to see the results.
It would be interesting to tranche out the US and other residents' responses.
Posted by: Andy at November 29, 2006 8:13 PMwas there somewhere to put SDA at the beginning? I missed it also. felt a little lost on the American politician questions though.
Posted by: kelly at November 29, 2006 8:20 PMWhen you click the link the page opens to ask you to indicate the blog you found linked to the survey. Click the drop down arrow and select Small Dead Animals. Elementary, my dear Watson.
Posted by: Polly at November 29, 2006 8:28 PMThe link is fixed, as Kate says. So I did the survey again. 'Hope that's OK.
As to whether or not I voted in the last election, I clicked on "I can't recall." Duh!!! I'd never NOT vote, so that was hard, but how could I say "Yes" or "No" when later I have to say where I live if I don't live in the U.S.?
Posted by: 'been around the block at November 29, 2006 8:29 PM"It would be interesting to tranche out the US and other residents' responses"
They asked for geographical data. I'm hoping they do it right and let you sort the results however you wish.
Interesting they asked specifically how you felt about Hispanics but not any other ethnic groups. I'm assuming it's tied to (US)immigration, though they didn't bother to ask any questions about that.
Posted by: guy at November 29, 2006 8:33 PMThat was fun, and I answered all the political questions with the right answers. Didn't give the msm or journalists a good mark.
Posted by: maryT at November 29, 2006 8:50 PMI haven't looked at the reader questions, but for the author survey I just "substituted" the closest aproximate where necessary. ie, when asked to desribe myself as Republican, Libertarian, etc.
Interesting Kate!
Did the survey and it thought it would/could produce useful results. I'd be very interested in the results.
I hope it warms up where you are!
Posted by: jrb at November 29, 2006 9:02 PMif you have the time to complete this thing, we already know your answers. turn off the computer and go for a walk.
Posted by: jeff at November 29, 2006 9:03 PMKate,
That took forever, but thankfully I came across your request right as Bill Graham began to speak at the convention, so I was happy to be otherwise occupied for the entire duration of his speech.
Posted by: Olaf at November 29, 2006 9:19 PMI found SDA immediately
Posted by: rod at November 29, 2006 9:35 PMI hope you will publish the results that you get Kate.
Should be fun to see how out of pace I am with the rest of the SDA minions ;-)
Cheers
Posted by: HaySeed at November 29, 2006 10:16 PMOMG, did someone tell Howard Dean he was speaking at a LIBERAL convention? The whole "neighbors, partners, communities" schtick goes over like a lead balloon to this crowd. Telling these assembled carpetbaggers to get out and work to win over one voter at a time is like telling your dog to calculate your income taxes.
Posted by: A. Cooper at November 29, 2006 10:16 PMI'm with Olaf.
Posted by: ldfarrer at November 29, 2006 10:23 PMFound SDA and filled out form. Kinda long but what the heck I'm not that busy tonite.
Some good questions
Posted by: Fractured at November 29, 2006 10:41 PMKinda long Kate but what the hay. Named you first (which is my first look at the blogs in the A.M.)
Curious what they'll do when they see my -0 for journalists. Hope this does well for you.
Taking the survey was easy -- until the U. Wisc's server conked out and re-started. Hopefully I got a completed survey in.
Posted by: Garth Wood at November 29, 2006 11:07 PMI had to be a little creative and sort of say I did vote, with the equivalent Canadian elections in mind, otherwise us Canucks might affect the results, making the stay-at-home non-voter numbers too high. You better believe I vote every chance I get.
Posted by: anon at November 29, 2006 11:11 PMMy minimum fee for filling in any survey is $20 cash in hand up front.
I*ll waive it this time because in reality The SDA site has provided us an ideal venue to exchange ideas and news.
The entertainment value is worth hundreds and I am not alone in that opinion, certainly.
If we had to pay for the time in a movie theatre that was enjoyed here, we could easily be in debt.
Thanks, Kate. = TG
Yankee red meat hard-core neo-con here! :-)
Gave ZEROs for Democratic Party, journalists, MSM publications. If the poll had allowed negative numbers, I'd have given Absolute Zero to these three groups of losers.(negative 412 fahrenheit, or something near there? but I digress...)
BTW, I gave only a 75 on the how much do I favor Republican Party question. When the Republicans in Congress get over their severe pork barrel addiction (as bad as the Dems!) and when the Bush Administration and the Republicans in Congress get serious about controlling the US-Mexican border, I'll give them a much better rating.
As it is, I held my nose and voted Republican in the recent election. The nose-holding was due to the above two cited reasons. I didn't feel this way during the Reagan Administration...and I feel sad that I had to vote Republican feeling the Party is only the lesser of the evils. (Albeit much the lesser.)
(BTW, if I were Harper and the US diplomats started talking about wanting Canada to do more about border security, I'd say "When you start taking your own SOUTHERN border seriously, give me a call."
In this American's opinion, all the US border and internal security measures implemented since 9/11 don't mean much when for political and economic reasons, the US goverment REFUSES to effectively control the US-Mexican border.)
Posted by: Dave at November 30, 2006 12:50 AMListed my 5 favourite blogs:

Just another bad survey. C'est la vie.

I did the dirty deed......but that is a contrived bunch of bullshit.
Wasted the little time I have left and insulted what's left of my intelligence.
I slapped myself up the side of the head.
I hope I never see this garbage on yer site again.
DO NOT insult yer readers. Ass kissing aside.

Posted by: syncrodox at November 30, 2006 6:21 AMYes it was long.I had no problem with the US political questions and I'm from Newfoundland. Re the voting questions, The stats will negate your response unless you didn't answer what country you are from. If you gave your e-mail addy you will probably be getting a synopsis of the poll.
I gave -50 for the unions question.
"I hope I never see this garbage on yer site again.
DO NOT insult yer readers. Ass kissing aside."
Your best bet is to leave, then.
...and dont let the door slam you in the ass on your way out!
Posted by: FREE at November 30, 2006 11:53 AMKate
You can't tell me that exhaustive survey is not without an agenda. The questions were loaded and actually insulting to anybody other than a porch monkey.
In the year I've been following your blog I've found it to be a breath of fresh air.....in contrast that poll reeked of insincerity.
Incidently...I was caller "Lloyd" who got on to Cristie Clark after Kinsella took that cheap shot at you. I am a fan of your honesty and I especially like it when you take down those phoney CTV polls. This one is no different from those...well it was considerably longer.
If I'm no longer welcome here....fine...but don't try and pass off bullshit as marmalade.

Posted by: syncrodox at November 30, 2006 12:07 PMNone of that gives you the right to come onto my blog and declare what is and isn't "appropriate" content. No one forced you to take the survey, no one forces you to click on a link. You're supposed to be a conservative. Take some personal responsibility.
I spent a good portion of last evening cleaning crap out of these comments from people who cannot read the rules of this blog - not to mention, decency. Your comment came at _exactly_ the wrong time.
There are over 12,000 visits a day to SDA at the moment. Don't presume to speak for anyone but yourself. Your comment was a personal insult, and you directed it at me. You wouldn't walk into my home and say such a thing - what makes you think you should be offered the privilege of doing so here?
Posted by: Kate at November 30, 2006 12:23 PMDoes that mean the closet liberano is going away?
Posted by: FREE at November 30, 2006 1:23 PMThat was quite the exercise. Hopefully it tells the MSM how full of crap they are. Politicians too! Will be interesting to see results.
Posted by: Cheri at November 30, 2006 1:58 PMSo what if it doesn't carry much weight. It's anonymous, no reason not to be truthfull and it's an opportunity to say you're piece (or peace). How often do we hear about polls and wonder who the heck they called?
I think it's a good barometer of the real climate.
Kate keep up the great work. I can only imagine the avalanche of mail, good or bad, and all the problems associated with your endeavours. Please know you are appreciated. And I for one would completely understand if you ever pulled the plug. I would be profoundly sad if you did, but understanding never-the-less.
Posted by: Cheri at November 30, 2006 2:12 PMAfter 10 pages, I dropped out. Too long and not enough explanation at the beginning.
Posted by: EarlW at November 30, 2006 5:37 PMKate
I don't think I declared what was appropriate on your blog. You decide.
I voiced my opinion because I'm conservative.
I speak for myself and no others.... The royal we was incorrect. My bad.
I like your analogy of this blog as your home...Would I come into your house and shat in the middle of the carpet? I guess not!
I apologize for my piss poor rhetoric and I stand by my point.

Syncro
Apology accepted. As you were.
Posted by: Kate at November 30, 2006 7:48 PMWell I took the survey but don't know what the whoopla was all about. There are some silly questions (in my opinion) but there was always a positive and negative response. No "Answer yes or no, have you stopped beating your wife yet?" questions.
As far as I can tell, Kate has yet to force anyone to go to any link or take any survey, test or quiz. As an addicted reader I have read a lot of personal slams and verbal attacks posted in the comments before she ever gets in to edit or ban. The lady has a lot more patience than me.
For those who have a problem with SDA there is a fix. Click START... RUN and type in CMD and hit enter. type in FORMAT C: and hit enter. voila! problem solved.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at November 30, 2006 8:30 PMTo address some of the comments - I have had previous correspondance with the individual who is conducting it. He is in academia, blog friendly, and the interest is genuine.
Posted by: Kate at November 30, 2006 9:51 PMwe know syncro is friendly and means no harm, the survey is very American. it's not your bad, mayhaps a blond moment Lloyd?
Posted by: kelly at December 1, 2006 2:22 AMWhats the big deal on this thread run? I fill these out by the ton, just for fun. Am I the only one?
It was just for you or one. No one forced you to do this by whip or gun. So settle back & wait the results as they come.
