The Conservative government is taking women's rights back into the Dark Ages by scrapping program funding and stripping department mandates, the Liberal women's caucus charges. The group, headed by MP Belinda Stronach, released its Pink Book of policies intended to further women's economic stature yesterday. "The current system favours women who are willing to earn their way to the top through intelligence, hard work, and initiative." Ms. Stronach said, speaking before reporters. "This is clearly discriminatory."
"Speaking as a member of the privileged underachiever community, I can personally testify that mediocrity would have stood in the way of my goals, had it not been for the support and extreme wealth of my family. I would never have headed my father's company, nor had a snowball's chance in Hell of becoming a Member of Parliament. In our current patriarchal system, these jobs almost always go to college graduates."
But what of women who don't have nepotism and cronyism to fall back on? Ms. Stronach was passionate, "I had the pleasure of meeting a number of ordinary, undermotivated women while conducting our interviews. Our group also met with several government funded advocacy groups that function as sheltered workshops for female underachievers. This raises grave concerns about their future - where are the women of SoW, for example, to go, should their budgets be slashed? They may be forced to seek employment in sectors that reward measurable performance - something for which they are fundamentally ill-suited."
"Merit based advancement will become the norm, setting back women's rights a generation," warned Judy Sgro, chairwoman of the Commons committee on the status of women. "The past government worked very hard to get women out of the kitchen, into spike heels and wrapped around a pole. It would be shameful to see such progress set back by the neanderthal views of Conservatives who believe women to be the equals of men and numerically undeserving of minority status."
OMG LMAO Fenris would be proud!

I am sure BS has many talents. Fortunately for her none of them require brains.
Posted by: missing link at November 28, 2006 11:59 PMExcellent, Kate.
BTW, can someone from the Liberal Party of Canada explain why they have a "women's caucus".
Is this where they deal with "soft" issues that the big male dominated LPC caucus doesn't have the time for? Or does the LPC believe women are really not up to dealing with the "meaty issues" like foreign affairs and finance?
I'm not a woman but I would think that some women would find the whole idea of a special "women's caucus" vaguely patronizing.

Posted by: cascadian at November 29, 2006 1:21 AMWell the pinks stink, as does their supposed report. Great post, and now that all those males who thought Belinda had any looks, see her as a brunette, they want her to be blonde again. So, phoney is good!
I have always said, (being a true brunette), that the most beautiful women are natural brunettes, like Rona, who has brains (she speaks 5 languages)and looks, and class, it must make the liberal bimbos like Belinda shudder.
Belinda's new hair do, yuck. Not even her millions can save her, or make her look like Rona. Because class can not be bought, you either have it, like Rona, or you don't, like Belinda. She can die her hair all she wants, but it won't make her have any class.

The related poll on that webpage seems to disagree with her by about 4:1.
In any case, I think Judy Sgro is in relatively safe territory: She might be forced to throw away her shoes, but she's too old to become pregnant, and judging by her reportedly notorious consumption of take-out pizza, I'm guessing she can't cook either.

Posted by: Sammy at November 29, 2006 1:46 PMI'm starting to think that perhaps Liberals hate being barefoot, hate being pregnant and hate kitchens.
Sometimes I, a man, am barefoot. What's wrong with that? I like my kitchen; I can get good eatin's there. Though I cannot become pregnant, I don't understand why Liberals think that pregnancy is a bad thing... whatever happened to their shrilly talking about "a woman's right to choose"?
Liberals are always inconsistent, can't make up their minds, hypocritical to a bizarre degree... rather sounds like they have some kind of mental disorder...
If the Liberals come back to power, I'm afraid they'll take away our right to be barefoot, ban women from getting pregnant and ban kitchens... oh, my...
They gotta get some new slogans. That one they used in the Pink Book is so old it's just laughably lame, like the Liberals themselves!
Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at November 29, 2006 1:52 PMirwin daisy makes an excellent point: The Conservatives should most definitely publicize the gargantuan waste involved which the vast majority of voters men and women would find shocking and revolting. Then explain that the much-need original women's movement has accomplished it mission, has now descended into mischief and irrelevance and that SOW is being abolished. Frankly, I find it absolutely mystifiying that Harper didn't abolish that department which would seem to me to be a risk-free poltical maneuver. No serious observer of the social/political scene could now argue that women are disadvantaged in any way -- quite the contrary.
Pinkism, n., a form of neo-feminism, which portrays women as weak and needy of government largesse.

"* The former Correctional Investigator and head of the OCI, Mr. Ronald Stewart, committed serious abuses and wrongdoing, some of which resulted in substantial personal benefit. For example, he received improper payments in the form of unearned salary and reimbursement of travel and hospitality expenses unrelated to OCI business.
* The former Correctional Investigator did not report a single day of annual leave (vacation leave) for 14 years. He received payments for the full amount of his annual leave entitlements for 14 years. During the 6-year audit period, he was frequently absent from the OCI premises during business days without undertaking OCI business.
* Poor and inappropriate human resources management practices at the OCI had serious financial implications. For example, the former Correctional Investigator authorized improper payments to employees that were recorded as overtime.
* The Executive Director of the OCI was aware of some of the improper activities but took no action to stop them.
* Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada did not challenge questionable expenditures and reimbursements, and problematic human resources classification and staffing practices approved by the former Correctional Investigator.
* The Privy Council Office and the Treasury Board Secretariat issued general guidance material to deputy heads (agency heads) and managers of departments and agencies, but did not carry out appropriate oversight of the OCI that could have enabled them to identify and stop the improper activities."
The offending Correctional Investigator should be in the custody of Corrections Canada!!

But of course as we learned later David Dingwall was sacrificed on the altar of political expediency by PM Paul Martin et al.
The feeding frenzy of sharkdom continues...
"On February 4th 2006 it was released that the government was following its binding arbitration ruling by paying Dingwall $417,780 along with associated pension benefits. It was also discovered that Dingwall had been forced to resign from his position at the Canadian mint. The Liberal government had knowledge of this settlement on January 20 2006, but did not inform the public.[6] This drew harsh words from members of the Conservative and New Democratic Parties, who accused the Liberals of hiding the information to not affect the January 23rd election.
Dingwall, testified that he resigned voluntarily after the controversy erupted over his expense account claims. Former prime minister Paul Martin and former revenue minister John McCallum also insisted that was the case. However, a report from retired Superior Court Judge, George Adams found the Martinites essentially forced out Dingwall, a member of the Jean Chretien tribe within the Liberal Party.[7]"

Liberal stalwart skirts election financing laws: NDP MP
OTTAWA – NDP MP Pat Martin has filed a complaint to the Commissioner of Canada Elections to look into possible illegal liberal fundraising being done by the group Canadian Liberals Acting Against The Climate Crisis ("CLAACC") through their Web site www.climateliberal.ca.
Martin explains in his letter how Liberal stalwart John Duffy has created a new Web site that uses the Liberal Party of Canada’s logo to raise money for the Liberal Party outside of Canada’s election financing rules.
“The Liberals, they have never met a rule they didn’t want to circumvent in order to keep big money involved in politics,” said Martin. “That none of them have a clue how to clean up the Liberal mess is bad enough, but to see them continue to try and skirt around the rules that do exist is outrageous. Its no wonder Canadians still think they are a corrupt party.”
Martin has been pointing out how Liberal Leadership candidates have been virtually ignoring ethics during the Liberal leadership race, despite the fact that a recent poll found that 50% of Liberal voters believe that the Liberal Party is arrogant or corrupt.
“After ten months of watching the Liberals’ rat race we are shocked to see no plan from any of the candidates to address ethics and cleaning up politics,” said Martin.
Martin pointed out that in Ignatieff’s 42 page platform there is no mention of ethics or the sponsorship scandal. Bob Rae has made no speech on ethics or accountability. Since announcing his candidacy, Stephane Dion has been silent on ethics and sponsorship. In Gerard Kennedy’s 10,000 word platform you will not find the word “ethics.”
So Belinda crossed the floor to be with those who have difficulty with the concept known as "ethics".

Very, very funny. If only we could see a stand up commedy routine using this material. Don't expect Rick Mercer to do it, though. He wouldn't have the guts.
Posted by: Ronnie at November 29, 2006 3:57 PMcal2: You must be an all-out communist if you consider Belinda Stronach right-wing and pro-free enterprise!
Did you not catch the point of the satire, that she thinks women aren't capable of competing in a free enterprise system, so we need our own programs, departments and special groups of MPs pushing left-wing crap down our throats. In case you haven't noticed, there quite a few rich left-wingers, her income has nothing to do with it.
re: the barefoot and pregnant accusations: it's a little too chilly in most of the country to go barefoot 8-10 months of the year, pregnant or not.
Posted by: elizabeth at November 29, 2006 4:08 PMNice try exile. She's a Liberal hypocrite all the way. She believes YOU should pay more taxes, not her. She believes SHE should make YOUR decisions for YOU as she knows best. Tons of rich people are Liberal; they can afford to shelter themselves from the ridiculous little policy 'experiments' that affect the masses of workers. Do you think daycare will ever be a pressing issue for Belinda personally?
Posted by: tom at November 29, 2006 4:18 PMMy wife saw Belinda on TV with her new coloured hair and made the comment does it ever make her look hard. She added..perhaps she was tired of being called a blonde bimbo. Touche...my wife is an excellent judge of character.
The women's caucus still does not understand that the Liberals lost the last election. Daycare, Kelowna Accord are now so passe. Liberals don't have a fresh thought in their tiny little brains.
I was waiting for this Kate! Well done. I caught the new hair due Monday. I just new it would be a matter of time. BS is going to find quickly after this weekend she is going to be faded into the back. We can only hope that it includes, out the door. It's like she thinks that maybe she can "blend in", my bet she will not run again. She just can't seem to get her way. BS will never be the leader of ANY party or the PM of this country. Thank GOD!
Posted by: MaryM at November 29, 2006 4:39 PMelizabeth: I believe Cal2 was quoting left-wing woman "exile" who called BS a right-wing woman who likes low taxes and free enterprise.
exile: It's a fallacy to equate "right wing" with rich. Soros is very rich, but left wing (right wing for his personal benefit however!). The Kennedys are rich leftists. The Trudeaus are rich leftists. Paul Martin?
Karl Marx was the son of a rich industrialist who sent him a regular allowance which he squandered on everything except his wife and children. His collaborator Engels was a right industrialist.

I suspect that the sequel to the Pink Book will be the Rainbow-coloured Book. 'Gotta help all those lesbian, transgendered, and cross-gendered (does anybody know what these terms actually mean?) single moms to collect pogie for life. Hey, those buzz cuts take special blades.

Someone mentioned the "State Comedian" Rick Mercer.
No indeed he wouldn't slag that hag, as he only makes government approved jokes whether they are funny or not.
And like all government funded efforts he will get paid whether he earns it or not.
Real comedians move to the USA where they have a sense of humor rather than a sense mirth now again.
I only have one question.........has BS always been that homely and was I blinded to this by her blondness from a bottle?? I am soo shallow........
Posted by: odie441 at November 29, 2006 5:39 PMBlondezilla morphs into Brunzilla after chanting from the Pinko Book of Spells.
Could of been worse. She could have gone Green. Brunzilla might have the shoes, but Ambrose has much better hair.
Posted by: shaken at November 29, 2006 6:00 PMI like how her jacket co-ordinates with her hair whilst her blouse blends with her prop. Why, she's become one with the thing. Paying attention out there working gals? This is how a real woman dresses for success.
Posted by: shaken at November 29, 2006 6:09 PMEveryone is looking at the past.
I prefer to look at the future, which is why I'm announcing a new Victoria Secret initiative: the Belinda Stronach Erotic Lingerie Collection for the upwardly mobile gal on the move.
Yes, whether you're sashaying across the aisle on the eve of a no-confidence vote, meeting for a sensuous, private dinner with an American president, or confessing undying love to a politican you plan to dump next week, you'll do everything better wearing an exquisite fabric next to your skin.
So many wonderful memories, like hitting the town with Paris and Brittney, exciting the guys at all the In night spots, the Belinda Stronach Erotic Lingerie Collection is perfect for you.
If you're an upwardly mobile city gal you never know when an opportunity will arise to do a sensuous strip for someone who can help you achieve another successful venture. So the next time you find yourself removing your clothing in front of a stranger, you want to make sure that the panties wear the unmistakeable logo of Belinda.
Posted by: Greg in Dallas at November 29, 2006 6:28 PMRemember now folks, people like BS are elected to run our fine country!!
Posted by: GYM at November 29, 2006 6:38 PMSo trite, but I've never found Belinda even ATTRACTIVE at any point, blonde or not.
That a person with all that money--she can't help her genes, poor thing--manages to look so dowdy, so often, in the make-up, hair, and clothing department shows that she isn't even a successful bimbo!
I know it's highly unlikely, but Belinda might consider tart . . . whoops! . . . smartening up.
Posted by: lookout at November 29, 2006 7:04 PMelisabeth
sorry , didnt put quotes around the cut and paste from someones previous post.
me a communist? sorry , very right to Ted Morton and SHPM.
Paris Stronach never competed in the world of free enterprise either, daddys money. she is immoral, unethical ,and really just an out and out fake. but she has somehow got the likes of Craggy Oliver's attention.
I thought I'd inject a little humour into the discussion and the newly-brunetted but still bimbo...
My farite line: You sleep with gods you get fleas...
OK I'll try this again...
I thought I'd inject a little humour into the discussion about the newly-brunetted but still bimbo-ish Belinda...
My favorite line: You sleep with dogs you get fleas...
And no, I am NOT dislexic...Tho' I did enjoy the musical "Annie Get Your Nug"
Sheesh...errr,,,that would be dyslexic...oh never mind...
Posted by: Bruce at November 29, 2006 7:40 PMThe longer Belinda is with the Liberal party the less the brain works properly.Or maybe it's just a liberal thing once you join them it starts shutting down.I guess she finally got over that dog deal.
Posted by: Ken E. at November 29, 2006 7:59 PMBruce,
You mean *that's* what had the Liberal's womens caucus (snort) in a tizzy in today's QP? I didn't know McKay had said the line on This Hour has 22 Minutes. After seeing the context, it proves the Liberals are devoid of any credibility, and are really plumbing the depths rational discourse.
Posted by: A. Cooper at November 29, 2006 8:54 PMWOW!! I hate to stereotype..but...what the hell it just seems so appropriate here. This sounds like something a bunch of 14 year old girls concocted at a slumber party. I can just see Belinda and Heddy giggling about how they are gonna teach those evil conservatives to mess with their programs and agendas while they stuff their faces with smores and practice kissing each other. EWWWW! Sorry about that.
I would love to see some man on the street interviews with people from these bimbo's constituencies asking them if they will ever be able to take their MP's seriously again.
Posted by: johnboy at November 29, 2006 9:13 PM"Artificial Intelligence" = Belinda dyes her hair brunette.

STATUS OF WOMEN OFFICES TO BE CLOSED
The Conservative government is taking an axe to Status of Women Canada, closing three-quarters of its regional offices and outraging critics in the process. (national newswatch)
Posted by: maz2 at November 30, 2006 7:29 AMFare thee well SOW...we hardly knew ye. Luckily women now have the Liberal posse representing them. I can only imagine how thrilled I would be if I had these things representing me. Probably about as thrilled as I would be if Michael Richards all of a sudden declared he represented white men.
Posted by: johnboy at November 30, 2006 9:52 AMRe Belinda's new look - on last night's Michael Coren Show, David Menzies referred to her as a "bimbo". I thought Marilyn Churley, former NDP cabinet minister, who usually has a pretty good sense of humour, was going to have a fit! Apparently things got pretty heavy between the two during the commercial time-out, but Menzies didn't recant.
On the subject of Anti-Americanism, she mentioned that her spouse is American and therefore, she has American relatives. Some of my best friends are ...... ?
Posted by: Skeptic at November 30, 2006 11:02 AMThese underachievers she speaks about is me, hanging off my husbands wallet raising my kids. Where women can't get on mortgages because the government does not see stay at home parents as economic value. The only ones that are oppressing women back to the 1950's is the pink book ladies!
Posted by: Sara at November 30, 2006 11:55 AMThe worst thing the Liberal Women's Caucus could have done would have been to choose Belinda Stronach as their poster child, and they did it.
What a horrible example to women everywhere.

The briefless politician theme continues:
http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/Weston_Greg/2006/11/30/2560857.html
MONTREAL -- "As all of Gritdom assembles here for three days of partying, politics and picking a new leader (in that order), it is perhaps fitting that the most popular souvenirs selling at the trinkets-and-trash tables are the skimpy "I'm a Liberal" thongs.
If the Grits get this one wrong, they will be lucky to get out of the next election with their shorts. Even if they get it right, Liberals know that choosing the best on the ballot this Saturday is still a far cry from beating the pants off Stephen Harper."
Yep, run those skivvies up the House of Parliament flagpole!
Who ever said Canadian politics is dull.
So do the Bloc, NDP, and Conservatives also have their political thongs?
"Don't be Ducepped, Vote Bloc"
"Let Layton sexuality show, Vote NDP"
"Quit Harping, Make Love, Vote Conservative."
Music for the respective conventions:
"Bach: Air on a G-string"
Vapidity its the LIEBeral way.
"exile: It's a fallacy to equate "right wing" with rich. Soros is very rich, but left wing (right wing for his personal benefit however!). The Kennedys are rich leftists. The Trudeaus are rich leftists. Paul Martin?"
I don't equate rich with right-wing but in general wealth is a fair indication of a person's sympathies. None of the people you mention are left-wing. They are small 'l' liberals.
"Karl Marx was the son of a rich industrialist who sent him a regular allowance which he squandered on everything except his wife and children. His collaborator Engels was a right industrialist."
Karl Marx was the son of a lawyer. Later in life, he received financial support from Engels, who was indeed the son of a rich industrialist. Marx was not good with money but he cared about his family and did his best to provide for them. They did, however, experience periods of serious poverty.
Posted by: exile at November 30, 2006 6:55 PMSort of like your thought processes, hey exile?
Posted by: FREE at November 30, 2006 7:41 PMYou're all much too hard on Ms Stronach. After all she is a prominant woman of means, just oozing substance.
Just who's substance it is, well is anyone's guess......(ouch!)
Posted by: eastern paul at December 1, 2006 12:58 AMMy only complaint is you didn't credit the author of this beautiful satire. Very funny, and he/she should be apprised of our appreciation.

1) This is not an argument. It's an insult.
2) I have tried to treat everyone here with respect but apparently I cannot expect the same.
