In the past 48 hours I've shoveled the garage driveway, dog run and maze, sidewalks and over-the-curb truck parking space (small town living has its privileges).

Four times. I still have to get up on the roof.

And it's still coming down.
(From the comments - "So this is what the end of the world looks like")
Me too Kate !I live "rural",just came in from a day of shovelling(cheated a bit tho..sno-blower for the lane) Beautiful out now, very mild (SE Man.),but roads icy.My hubby works away,so I get to do all the fun stuff, but really don't mind..builds character.Gosh,I'm having a Liberal moment here now, thinking there should be a program,or some funds I could access to help out with all this! After all,I AM woman, hear me beg!
Posted by: Sammy at November 28, 2006 7:01 PMHere in rural southern Alberta the temperature is -24, and with the wind chill it's like -40. Looks like you got a lot of snow there.
Oh,off topic, but go Ted Morton!
Helluva global warming you're having out there. So this is what the end of the world looks like.
Posted by: rick mcginnis at November 28, 2006 7:09 PMthis how the world ends not with a bang but with the weather.

Posted by: cal2 at November 28, 2006 7:14 PMGoing to be 14 degrees here over the next few days.
That poor little pooch in the last pic looks like he/she can't find a place to do the "business."
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at November 28, 2006 7:16 PMWell, since George Bush was held personally responsible for all the global warming and hurricanes last year, I presume the leftists will praise him for the marvelous job he's done this year in keeping away the hurricanes, and cranking the thermostat down a few notches. I'm holding my breath . . . can I breath now?
Posted by: DrD at November 28, 2006 7:25 PMYep, Kate - looks like that here in the "bad boy" province too. Just think what it would be like if we didn't have this dang
"global warming".
From what I hear - this storm is heading down east, just in time for the Liberal leadership convention!!
Posted by: Albertagirl at November 28, 2006 7:37 PMSo if this weather hits the Librano convention will they need to call the army back from Afghanistan?? Will Canadian soldiers then be revered again by Libranos??
By the way...I'm working in Fort St. John, BC and it was -33 this morning (w/o the windchill factored in).
Go Ted Morton!!
Posted by: johnboy at November 28, 2006 7:42 PMQuit whining, you think you have it tough, it's -3 in Victoria and snow on the ground. To top it of I had to cancel my tee time tomorrow.
Posted by: Western Canadian at November 28, 2006 7:47 PMOh wow, I'm jealous, really not being sarcastic. It looks absolutely gorgeous.
Posted by: rositta at November 28, 2006 8:01 PMOut here on the prairies we are not only looking for global warming we are cheering for it to come on sooner. I know, I know, there is no global warming, just another liberal broken promise.
Posted by: Shades of Clarity at November 28, 2006 8:06 PMJust got back from Pebble Beach. Enjoyed 2 days of golf. But you know ? I still love our wonderful WESTERN CANADA. GO TED MORTON!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Rod at November 28, 2006 8:07 PMWow, a Winter Wonderland.
Our fish are still swimming around in the pond, the waterfall is in full flow, and we can walk around in just a jacket. I WANT snow! (Sorry!!)
The white stuff is a nice backdrop, though, for your little doggie, Kate. BTW, what have you decided to call your Hallowe'en puppies?
Posted by: 'been around the block at November 28, 2006 8:08 PMKate, I can feel your pain. Here in the burbs south of Vancouver, I'm looking outside at two feet of FRIGGING SNOW! And it's not going away anytime soon, by the sounds of things. And more is coming in tomorrow.
After helping the neighbours shovel our STREET (because few here have snow tires, our streets don't get plowed due to the absence of snow plows) I made my way to the marina to shovel off my boat. Teetering on slippery snow-clad fibreglass decks, one mis-step away from falling into the frigid water that, for the first time in my experience, has chunks of ice floating in it. Not a happy time. And because it is so cold here right now, the salt spread on the highway doesn't work, so traffic is a mess.
Because of the heavy wet snow, everything in my garden that used to be vertical is now horizontal...
Global Warming?...Al Gore, kiss my A$$, you moron...
Posted by: Bruce at November 28, 2006 8:10 PMThe cinnamon bun I just had was loaded with guilt. Guess mine tasted better than yours, Kate.
Posted by: Martin B. at November 28, 2006 8:19 PMKate,
I'm from way down east and it's like summer here, I'm almost glad my beloved Axemen didn't get past Laval because they might have froze at the Vanier Cup. I'm looking forward to snow this year, since my new chocolate lab is 6 months old now and I can't wait to see her in her first snow. Keep the fire going.
Posted by: Grithater at November 28, 2006 8:20 PMOnly 22C and cloudy down here right now, sigh. It's times like this I don't miss the good old days.
BTW, I haven't had a real good cin bun since I left Canader, or a decent apple fritter either(bless Timmie's little heart).
Hasn't snowed here yet where I am. Bay of Fundy sees to it.
Little while ago recently it was up to 20 C. In November. Weird...
Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at November 28, 2006 8:51 PMWe still have flowers blooming here in Wolfville. If they "blame" our warm weather in NS lately on Global warming then we think it is only fair they blame your snow and cold on Global cooling.
Posted by: Ww at November 28, 2006 8:52 PMTim Blair likes to joke that the weather turns cold whenever eco blowhard Al Gore rolls into town. I don't imagine the old bore could be in Delisle though.
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at November 28, 2006 8:57 PMAs bad as the weather was for Vanier, at least they missed this snow dump. I can't imagine what it would have been like playing through finger drifts...
Posted by: Kate at November 28, 2006 9:02 PMKate,
I'd say hold off planting bananas for at least 5 years.
Posted by: ural at November 28, 2006 9:16 PMWow! And here in Ontario, I was hanging out laundry this afternoon, doing a little driveway patch repair, and cleaning up the gardens. No need for a jacket.
I think your weather is coming here soon though.
Posted by: Joanne (TB) at November 28, 2006 9:29 PMKate: Stay off the roof My niece shovelled the snow from her roof some years back in Swan River and then proceeded to jump off the roof into the pile of snow.
She overshot and had to crawl around to the back door to interupt hubby watching the SuperBowl. He missed the second half taking her to the hospital to have her broken amkle set.Dumb B#$%^#@!
God will take care of the snow on the roof, besides the roof should hold the load.
Kate, why not have another cinnamon bun? And give that cute little doggie a pat!
Posted by: lookout at November 28, 2006 9:34 PMIt's freezing here and we continue to get dumped with snow. Where in the hell is Global Warming...er, I mean Climate Change....er, I mean Climate Injustice?
Sorry for being behind the times of the sooper-dooper calamity that will destroy this planet. The only way to stop CLIMATE INJUSTICE is for democratic 1st-world countries to buy "credits" (that's code for giving billions of dollars...oops that slipped out) from 3rd-world countries run by tinpot dictators.
Then and only then, can we save Mother Gaia from the CLIMATE INJUSTICE caused by neocon outfits like Halliburton, Chevron, McDonalds, and of course the ultimate evil organization: *spit* WalMart *spit*
Posted by: Toontown Kid at November 28, 2006 9:53 PM
Well, in Toronto it's supposed to be 17 tomorrow, but it might rain. We may be able to cope. By the weekend it's supposed to be just around freezing. We may be able to cope. My son in Vancouver says UBC shut down yesterday (alleged "power failure"). He may be able to cope. My daughter in Saskatoon says it pretty much sucks. She may cope ,but it still sucks. What a nation!
Posted by: Andy at November 28, 2006 10:22 PMI can still remember when my town banned sleds within town limits. (well you had to take a direct route out of town)
Posted by: johnboy at November 28, 2006 10:29 PMOh. If the snow melts and freezes on the roof it can cause an ice dam and water can get pushed up under the shingles (particularly in valleys). Doesn't hurt to clean off the roof.
GO MORTON!!
Posted by: johnboy at November 28, 2006 10:31 PMI'm thinking in the -39 or so in Calgary (wind chill) it's not that bad, I've shovelled, cars are plugged in, fire in the evening, life is good. Now...Ted Morton for premier, the Dinning "Martinesque attack ads are a turnoff", Ed who?? Lyle Goodbye!!
Posted by: bobby G at November 28, 2006 10:46 PM
What a bunch of complainers, where I live we dont have fire escapes. When theres a fire we pour a pail of water out the window and slide down the icycle
It's spring here. To keep those tires from spinning just load a few bags of cat litter in the trunk. Cat litter will help if you happen to get stuck in all that beautiful white stuff.
Love that global warming.
OK ronrob, I'll admit that I'm a whiner :-) But I'll bet that where you live, you don't have to pay $450,000 for a residential lot either (house is extra).
Posted by: Bruce at November 28, 2006 11:00 PMThe -25 to -35 stuff gets old really fast. I think Calgary has about a third the snow Delisle has but likely 3000 times the traffic gridlock.
My feeling is that Stelmach will win as he will be the overwhelming second choice of both he Dinning and Stelmach fans.
Stelmach seems to a decent guy. I hope he also has, like Morton, a warrior streak. The Harper "Chinook" could end next summer and Alberta could be facing PM Rae propped up by the "Friends of the Taliban" party.
Posted by: Bart F. at November 28, 2006 11:13 PMThats why I winter in Maui. Got hot and sweaty walking the beach today
Posted by: Rick at November 28, 2006 11:35 PMdamn this global warming!
Posted by: Ryan at November 28, 2006 11:46 PMMt. Baker, Wash. got 8 to 12 feet of new snow.
Monday evening, the area was reporting 96 inches of new snow in four days, and 142 inches of snow in the past week, creating a 125-inch base at Heather Meadows.
Love Mt Baker, and Mt Washington on Vancouver Island too. Tremendous amounts of snow can fall in a short period of time. Anyway, this global warming is just dandy, Monday morning in Whitehorse YT, an all time low for November, minus 41C without the wind factored in, and that was one of the "milder" temperatures in the Territory.
Posted by: Gordon at November 29, 2006 1:40 AM"Four times. I still have to get up on the roof."
I've got four acres that are drifted in and I need to clear a path for the school bus tomorrow morning. I may need to impose on the Father-in-law to bring the Jesus Big Tractor with the 20 foot blade over.
Posted by: Sean at November 29, 2006 1:50 AMGreat pictures!
That one of the backyard brought back memories of digging the very same kinds of "trench systems" for our miniature schnauzer.
He is now with us here in the UK where winter means darkness and dampness instead. I'm quite sure he misses being able to plow his muzzle through the snow for that refreshing winter morning wake-up.
Do your dogs do this?
Posted by: JJM at November 29, 2006 5:32 AMI just noticed the wire fence on the left side of the top photo. I haven't seen one of those for decades. They used to be everywhere in small town Saskatchewan. How old is your house?
Posted by: Ken at November 29, 2006 9:27 AMRight.
And now the whistling Prairie wind has come up. That powder snow turned into 4' drifts in my yard.
Oh, well. Two hours on the old 9N tractor, in a snowsuit, to get the car out to the road.
In retrospect, as I sit here with my fingers tingling as they thaw out, I enjoyed it. Go figure...
:)
Just got a note from an old friend in Vancouver: "Nobody has salt, shovels or even scrapers for their car. We were using spatulas to scrape the windows of the car yesterday morning."
Of course their mayor hasn't called in the army...
Posted by: James Goneaux at November 29, 2006 9:55 AMHeh.
Here in greater NYC it's actually a damp and light gray with highs in the 60F range: balmy.
We're on the other side of that weather system that's shoving cold air down as far as New Mexico and we're getting a big gust up from Gulf of Mexico.
I know, our time will come.
The crazy thing is, I like snow.
Posted by: Fred2 at November 29, 2006 10:43 AMThis canuck is spending the winter in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas (a.k.a The Texas Tropics wher it is 30* everyday...I don't miss the snow...yet.
Posted by: "Biff"Henderson at November 29, 2006 10:48 AMBart F.: Only the candidate who comes in last will have his 2nd choice count. I was afraid they would count all 2nds but they wont. Mortons 2nd choice will most likely be Stelmach. But, Stelmachs 2nd choice will probably be split, so it will be a cliff hanger. Who will resign to give Dinning a chance to get elected. A lot of people think he is still an MLA. Will the city voters come out if the weather is still bad. Still very cold here, and minimum snow. Feel sorry for all those kids walking to school. Glad I don't have a dog to walk, but we do have 3 stray cats living under our w/c ramp. I do feed them but they can't come in the house.
Posted by: maryT at November 29, 2006 10:55 AMIt's around 100 years old.

Posted by: Quidnunc Savant at November 29, 2006 3:08 PMAutomotive Tire Tip
11 parked Vehicles belonging to employees and two service trucks of the Kal tire outlet here in Courtenay. All are sporting the Nokiaan all season tire made in Finland. The tire maker whose slogan is . . . * Finnish your journey.*
No profit to me in any way. Just a factual observation.
I asked about this preference for Finnish made tires and the reply made sense. *Do you know what Finnish weather is like?* And, *They wear like iron but cost less than Michlen.
Interesting; I would rather buy Blitzak tires made in N.A. [ keep the jobs here]. I had them on an *89 Olds and they seem very good.
BTW, Finland, being next to the East Bloc would have low prices.= TG
But will we have a white Christmas? Global warming you know. A clue?
Edmonton just blew its entire snow budjet for the entire year including nexts, in snow removal. Yup I am planting plam tree's in anticipation. lol
Posted by: Revnant Dream at November 29, 2006 5:37 PMBTW, just heard that Calgary set a record for energy consumption...something about all those furnaces on full blast for a week.
Gee, I don't see how "normal" cold is gonna help us with energy consumption, re: Kyoto "targets"...
Posted by: James Goneaux at November 29, 2006 11:01 PMKate, you dig pathways for the doggies? I thought I was ther only one who did that.
I used to do it for poor old Spike my Golden Retriever when he couldn't manage the snow drifts any more. He loved it.
Posted by: The Phantom at November 29, 2006 11:50 PMIM DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS JUST LIKE THE ONES I USED TO KNOW OH THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL, BUT THIS FIRE IS SO DELIGHTFUL,BUT AS LONG AS THERES NO PLACE TO GO,LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW
