Rename The NDP Contest!

Leader Post;

News that a constituency association has proposed a name change from the New Democratic Party to the Social Democratic Party at the upcoming NDP convention prompted some Opposition jibes in question period Thursday.

Saskatchewan Party leader Brad Wall announced his party would hold a contest and he invited provincial residents to make their own suggestions for a replacement name for the NDP.

"We already have some submissions for the name because everywhere we go ... you'd be surprised how creative people are in terms of what they call that governing party opposite," Wall said to guffaws from his caucus.

"We've seen it already on Highway 368 on signs 'No Darn Pavement, the New Destruction Party, New Democratic Potholes.' There's any number of suggestions out there."

RENAME THE NDP

Be sure to share your suggestions in the comments!

The suggestion that Calvert & Co. might begin to slither away from the party of Tommy Douglas and Jack Layton comes on the heels of a whirlwind of change - On October 26th came the declaration of a new provincial stat holiday in February, followed a day later with a cut from 7% to 5% of the PST. And then just a day or two ago, further cuts to business taxes.

So, one might wonder what happened on October 17th or thereabouts to put the burr under their saddle.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - SDA gets results!

Perhaps Stephen can take this up with The Star Phoenix. After all, on Friday October 27, Randy Jackson wrote about the last poll taken regarding the NDP, Sask Party, and the Liberals. Which poll was Randy Jackson (on page A2) talking about? The same one that Kate posted.

No wonder there has been a dearth of polls lately from the usually poll-obsessed Old Media.

I can hardly mention the NDP without my blood pressure spiking so it might be good for my health if the Socialist Bastards changed their name. I suggest changing the NDP (New Democratic Party) to NFG ( No Future Growth).

(Really my wish is that they are absolutely decimated in the next provincial election and never return to harm Saskatchewan as they have all these past years.)

It is so nice to live here in Alberta and never hear their name mentioned in any political conversation I've had since moving here. To be NDP free is wonderful!!

I'm afraid I don't understand the point of this comment.

The point of my original comment (in response to Kate's blog post) was that I thought she was representing as current some stale polling data.

How is my original point affected by Randy Jackson's decision to repeat Kate's mistake (as I saw it) on October 27?

Randy Jackson noted in his column that that poll was the latest/last poll that he had seen. So, if Randy Jackson erred, and Kate erred, as you claim, then a letter to the editor with proof of your claim that there has been polls done since then would prove your claim.

Ok, let's review.

In mid-October, Kate drew attention to months-old polling data under this headline:

Yowza;

Support for the Saskatchewan Party has rebounded, and it now holds a 29-point lead over the governing NDP, who have seen their support drop sharply.

Having followed up on her links, I pointed out that the data were stale, and further claimed that they could not be relied upon to tell us anything about relative preferences in Kate's 'now' (i.e. in mid-October).

I don't believe I did claim, as you assert, 'that there has [sic] been polls done since then that would prove [my] claim.'

In fact, such a claim would be nonsensical, since it would not take a later poll (say, one done in September) to prove a summer poll was out of date by mid-October: the barest familiarity with modern polling would be enough to prove that.

If I, in fact, made such a nonsensical claim, I would be happy to retract it.

In the meantime, I will maintain that I don't think I ever claimed Randy Jackson and Kate erred in the way that you say.

Yes, it's true.

Polls are 'snapshots' of public opinion: their shelf life is very, very short.

Ask any pollster.

Parables, on the other hand, speak to human nature and basic societal structures: they remain relevant even over hundreds of years.

"No C.C.F. Government will rest content until it has eradicated capitalism and put into operation the full programme of socialized planning which will lead to the establishment in Canada of the Co-operative Commonwealth."

The new party should be named the NRC party - Now Resting Contented

Posted by: mrtisaduffer at November 4, 2006 9:15 AM

Picture this: You have a stage with one person (the ventriliquist)- Brad Wally and a dummy (the dummy errr...I mean) Lorne Calvert. The audience is the people of Saskatchewan. Lorne is sitting on Brad's knee. Now in a normal such performance the dummy speaks at the same time as the ventriliquist but strangely in this scene, the dummy is on a three second delay. The other oddity is that whenever Brad mentions the Saskatchewan Party will do this or that - the dummy, for some unexplanable reason, substitutes it with "NDP".

The crowds roars with laughter. They can't believe what they are hearing. Brad says something like "the Sask Party will end manditory retirement. The dummy, three seconds - oh, sorry, in this case three hours later says the same thing except he says it about the NDP. The show is one continuous guffaw after another.

OK. Not true, but that is what it seems like to me. The NDP has just about run out of reasons to hold any more "policy" conventions. All they have to do is continue to copy the Sask Party agenda. It seems the only reason they now need a convention is to choose a new name for their flagging party. After the next election they will need a convention to choose a new leader who will instantly become the "Leader of the Opposition".

An April 06 CP report (Vancouver Sun) revealed that internet child porn increases by 20,000 sites PER MONTH and represents a $2.6 billion industry. This would qualify as the 'first terrorism' to be dealt with and eradicated before any other gov't agenda goes forward. Keeping the issue front and centre along with supporting policing depts suffering burn out and tied up in red tape is the problem.

How will the blogosphere contribute and what are the IPs role? Thoughts anyone? Canada's in trouble folks on this one and it actually relegates every other discussion, initiative, issues to the trash can. We need results here and we need them yesterday.
