Boy! I never realised there were so many anti-Italians in Canada, under I tuned into SDA. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for casting aspersions on the character of Joe Volpe! The "Italian Stallion" is every bit as honest and forthright as Alfonso Gagliano!

Joe Volpe would make an even BETTER Liberal leader than Bob Rae, or Dalton McGuinty!

On behalf of all bloggers, Mr. Volpe, Sir, I humbly apologise. Keep up the good work, and best of luck in the leadership race. I can't think of a better man to represent the Liberal Party of Canada, than Joltin' Joe Volpe!!

Go with Joe! Go with Joe!

Poor Joe. Up to his red neck in it. By the way, Bourque.org is reporting that Belinda has issued a statement regarding the Tie Domi thing. Poor Belinda states that her private life is her business and that false statements have been made about her in this sordid mess. I went to Belinda's website and sent her an e-mail asking her to be more clear about just which statements made were not true. Wonder if I will get a reply.

Others may want to send her that kind of an e-mail. Hopefully she will let the world know which statements were false. That way we will know which statements were true! I'm not holding my breath.

Kingmaker.
I love it.

For G*d's sake, Joe, HANG IT UP.

Concerning the show biz aspect of the Librano$, their antics might be somewhat amusing if it wasn't costing us, the Canadian taxpayers, so much.

And some people think that 12 bucks a ticket for a movie is expensive...

way to go joe...its the true and tested librano way. kingmaker indeed. unbelivable !!!

Maybe we should offer to help pay Joe's fine. I'd hate to see him bow out of the race now, he's just so damn entertaining.
I can't wait to hear his spin on this one!

Iggy didn't think a fine was adequate...He wanted him tortured as well! Poor Belinda, she would never knowingly have had an affair with Tie 'freakin' Domi, he must have told her he was Mats Sundin!

Lets see, the Fiberals fine Volpe $20,000 and............what? He gets to stay?

If the Fiberals ere so concerned about how bad this looks for their Party, why not just kick Volpe out and be done with him? Are they THAT desperate for money?

The LPC is getting more pathetic all the time.

Posted by: Aslandic at September 30, 2006 2:34 AM

It's a real circus being acted out by the Liberals, they can't even run a straight and clean leadership campaign.
Real entertainment though, with Volpe's foibles, trolling graveyards for support and Belinda's peccadillos on the sidelines,(sideshow) thrown in to add spice.Kind of get's ya in the mood for Hallowe'en.
They can't be serious, they must have given up already and they're just having fun.
JOE, DON'T GO.

Globe and Mail confirms it:

It's the Librano$$$$$$; business, as usual.

The Librano$ are the Habsburgs: Learned nothing, forgotten nothing.

Same old, same old: Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ...-

Old-style Liberals

Just as Liberals prepared to vote for delegates to their upcoming leadership convention, officials sent the worst possible message about the party's efforts to reform itself. In a release issued late yesterday afternoon, the leadership expenses committee declared that representatives of one of the eight candidates, former cabinet minister Joe Volpe, had violated its strict rules against the purchase of memberships. But having confirmed that inexcusable violation, one so evocative of past Liberal sleaze, the committee did not disqualify him. Instead, it settled for a reprimand, coupled with a fine of $20,000.

That is simply not good enough -- if the party wants to prove to Canadians that it has changed its ways after the sponsorship scandal. Virtually from the start of this race, Mr. Volpe's campaign has been under a cloud. Earlier this year, he returned contributions from juveniles. Last week, the Liberal association in Montreal's Papineau riding filed a complaint after it surveyed the new members that Mr. Volpe's campaign team had recruited. As riding president Luc Cousineau said: "We noted that there were people who said that they had not paid and there were people who did not know they were members." Two were reportedly dead.

The expenses committee confirmed that there were improper payments. It concluded that Mr. Volpe and his campaign team did not adequately instruct leaders of cultural organizations in Quebec that they should not pay for memberships. Nor did they adequately supervise those cultural leaders. The committee could find no evidence, however, that Mr. Volpe and his team had "actual knowledge" of the purchases.
........

For the Liberals, this is no way to go into this crucial weekend. Politics cannot go on as usual. ...-

No shame, no humility, no principles, label it "The Liberal Party of Canada".
Where do these doughheads hope to take this Country?
Where are there enough people who follow along with the above mentioned characteristics to give any thought to voting for them?
They are like a bunch of weasels fighting over the same prey.
We'll be lucky to get a decent opposition out of the lot of them at this rate.

Interesting Joe would wait all this time to tell the LPC something that the Canadian voter told them 9 months ago ( screw you!)....and who are about to tell their new leader the same thing when the LPC brain trust pushes us into another election over their 2 billion dollar gun registry which licences and registers psychopaths.

The first candidate to declare herself, this candidate has guts – she ran against Belinda Stronach two elections ago, and then had to step down to hand her nomination over when Stronach crossed the floor. Let's give her a chance – she’s NOT IGGY

Joe Volpe: No "Not IGGY" for Volpe>

Volpe's scandal-plagued campaign has probably destroyed any chance he ever had of winning. The discovery that his campaign was accepting large donations from minors has been a blow to his credibility. While we at STOP IGGY do not endorse him for Liberal leader, we do enjoy his increasingly outspoken attacks on Ignatieff, as long as he's staying in the race! ...-

I think Joe is hanging in there and will throw his support behind Bob Rae. Rae will become Liberal leader as commanded by Power/Desmarais corp. Volpe will bow out of the next electoral circus and retire to a plum job created for him by.....drum roll please...POWER CORP.

The only true Kingmaker in Canada is Power Corp. I would be surprised if Power Corp's pick didn't make it to Liberal Leader. Hopefully, he is still fresh enough in Ontario voters minds that a large majority of Ontario Zombies/voters will be forced to vote dipper or Conservative.

At any rate I agree with the majority of comments that the Libranos have become one of the more entertaining political parties in Canada. Kind of sad that there are still a large number of people in this country that condone the behaviour of these crooks by voting for them. I can't remember who said it Jefferson maybe) but it was something to the effect of "Democracy is doomed to failure as soon as voters realize they have access to the government purse." Actually I think it might have been Aristotle or someone. Damn my memory is going!

Posted by: johnboy at September 30, 2006 12:19 PM

And you know the saddest thing is all of this? The Liberals will still garner a sizeable amount of seats in the next election! There is something so fundamentally wrong in this country when a large criminal organization (as I believe them to be), such as the Liberals, will still receive some 100 odd seats in the House of Commons. Eastern Canada really is a different country. It just beggars belief that they will vote for these morally vacuous flesh puppets.

Posted by: huggybear at September 30, 2006 1:13 PM

John Rae is a big wheel with Power Corp.
Bob Rae will be the next liberal leader.

Librano$ and "Prohibited Expenditures".

We love the smell of diesel in the morning

"No Leadership Contestant shall incur Leadership Campaign Expenses directly or indirectly for the purpose of facilitating in any manner whatsoever...the presence of any member of the Party at a delegate selection meeting" - including transportation costs. So sayeth federal Liberal party regulations. Which makes one wonders why a bus - whose windshield featured a red and white placard bearing Kennedy British Columbia campaign co-chair Raymond Chan's name - was seen shuttling people to the Richmond selection meeting? Well, according to an insider close to Mr. Chan, the Richmond MP didn't know about the regulation. But he's "been made aware of that oversight. And it won't happen again." Although the insider was quick to point out Gerard Kennedy's competitors have made similar mistakes in other provinces. In fact, national returning officer Remi Bujold sent an email to senior campaign operatives last night notifying them that such allegations would be investigated by the party's expense committee. The following is a complete copy of that email.

Subject: Prohibited Expenditures

Dear All,

As National Returning Officer, according to Rule 2.1 of the Rules of Procedure for the Election of Delegates to the 2006 Leadership and Biennial Convention (the “Rule”), we are responsible for all aspects of the process of electing delegates under these Rules in each province and territory in the country.

According to section 5 (a) of the Regulations Governing Expenses of Contestants fro the Leadership of the LPC (the “Regulations”), it is clear that no transportation, accommodations or others cost can be provided in order to insure the presence of any member of the party at a delegate selection meeting.

According to section 16 of these Regulations, the sanctions with regards to the foregoing are the following:

a) issue a private reprimand;

b) issue a public reprimand;

c) impose a fine on the Leadership Contestant in an amount not to exceed $100,000; or

d) disqualify the Leadership Contestant.

It was brought to our attention that some alleged prohibited expenditures could have been incurred and associated to some Campaigns.

We would like to remind you that the Regulations must be respected by everyone, and therefore, we hereby recommend to the Expense Committee to take the appropriate measures to investigate on the foregoing allegations.

Kind regards,

Rémi Bujold, NRO
