Another Bad Day To Be Howard Dean

Drudge is reporting (exclusive) that the Democratic National Committee worked "secretly" to defeat New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, with the blessing of DNC chairman Howard "Yeaaaargh!" Dean;

The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program.

The party's field efforts also coincided with a national effort by Democrat contributors to support Landrieu. Landrieu had outraised Nagin by a wide margin - $3.3 million to $541,980. Preliminary campaign finance reports indicate many of Landrieu’s contributions came from out of state white Democrat leaders and financiers, including a $1,000 contribution from Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-NE) PAC.

The defeat of Mitch Landrieu is the latest setback for Dean's often criticized field operation.

In his victory speech late Saturday night, Nagin praised President Bush. "You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward," Nagin said.

The fact that Ray Nagin was re-elected in NOLA speaks volumes about the gullability of the voters. Kind of like the federal voters of GTO. For both of elections it seemed it was more about believing in promises never to be kept than actually doing anything. Of course when the next hurricane starts up the gulf expect Mayor Nagin make a big media splash then hide until it is all over and he is bushbashing again.

As far as Dean goes, it is always been entertaining for conservatives to watch this guy run off at the mouth but then most Democrats although embarassed, will not publically take him to task.

I recall reading something a couple of months ago about federal liberals hiring some of Dean's strategists to help them...

Ray Nagin's incompetence can best be illustrated by once aspect of the Katrina disaster.

Just before Katrina hit, he refused permission for the emergency services people's request that municipal transit and school buses be used to help evacuate New Orleans.

Consequently, over 1,100 buses that could have been used to evacuate tens or maybe hundreds of thousands of people, were instead part of the Katrina wreckage, submerged and ruined under water.

All those buses have to be replaced, of course at taxpayers' expense.

Ray Nagin is the antithesis of Rudy Guiliani. Nagin showed nothing but responsibility-evading incompetence before, during and after Katrina. Constrast that with Rudy Guiliani's hugely capable and inspiring leadership in New York on and after 9/11.

Katrina was a federal disaster. You would have to be ignorant (or worse) to blame Nagin alone, although he (along with the Governor) was at fault.

Brokeback Drudge is not a reliable source on Dean, or much of anything else.

The DNC Voting Rights Institute is essentially a Donna Brazile one-person operation. She was a consultant for La. Sen. Mary Landrieu, and it is quite likely she was also helping her brother (the defeated Mayoral Candidate & current La. Lt. Gov.) in the Mayor's race. Nagin has never been a fan of the old La. machine politics, which is probably why he gets the people in the predominantly white parishes to vote for him.

Mary Landrieu, Ben Nelson and others were/are not Dean fans. They are probably trying to pin the blame for their latest screw-up on Dean.

It may help to learn all the facts - or at least some of the disparate possibilities - before spouting off.

Drudge has had to retract his lies in the face of a law suit. When the going gets tough the liars back down. Drudge should stop pretending to be a journalist. He is a GOP waterboy in over his head.

Dave is right about the buses. NOLA had a published disaster plan to use them but it was ignored.
