Further to the discussion on our deteriorating Saskatchewan highways, I had the opportunity - or shall I say, the discomfort - of travelling a few roads I haven't been down lately. Highways that one could travel on at normal speeds during the much derided Devine years are now nothing short of treacherous. That is not hyperbole. There are stretches along Hwy 15 east of Kenaston that should really be closed to through traffic until they've been properly repaired - they are that dangerous.
The contrast after crossing into neighboring North Dakota makes the situation all the more infuriating. (I'll add that a visiting Fargo can be hazardous to delusions about Saskatoon's "economic growth", but that's a topic for another day).
A few of you have sent more photographs and commentary - I'll be getting into that later. In the meanwhile, there's a lot of work to catch up on around here, so you're still on your own for a few hours with reader tips. Some sent in while I was gone ;

Opposition leader Bill Graham says shutting down the Federal Gun Registry would amount to wasting one billion dollars.
The Liberals are calling on the Federal Conservatives not to scrap the registry.
Auditor General Sheila Fraser is expected to be highly critical of how the Liberals administered the registry today.
Graham says he regrets how the program was run.
Graham points out the costs of operating the program are now limited to 25 million dollars a year. ... cfra.com

All levels of government are restricting – without compensation - what have been historically acceptable uses of private lands by private landowners. With few exceptions these restrictions are promoted and enforced under the banner of “Necessary because of benefit for the collective or public good”. These restrictions invariably serve to promote dense urban growth and are detrimental to rural living and rural commerce. If this regulatory expansion of governments is allowed to continue, the intentional consequence will be inevitable: the depopulation of rural Ontario. The cities need our rural land for three reasons: a dumping ground for city trash, a well to slake their thirst, or public parkland for their urban populations.
The Legislation that paves this path of rural destruction is unending: The Places to Grow Act, The Clean Water Act, The Nutrient Management act, The Safe Drinking Water Act, The Species At Risk act, The Provincial Policy Statement on Land Use and Planning, The Oak Ridges Moraine Act, and, there are many, many others. Without exception these acts target rural Ontario’s heritage, culture and lifestyle, while appeasing the ignorant urban mindset that the rural environment is in need of salvation, and that this can only be achieved by immediate government intervention. It is clear and evident that the greatest immediate danger to Canada’s environment and safety stems from the rapidly expanding, concentration of people in the major urban centres; a fact that our policymakers and lawmakers wilfully ignore.
To prevent the depopulation and destruction of Rural Ontario, and counter the public dominion over private lands, the Ontario Landowners Association (OLA) has developed two pieces of legislation: “The Protection of Private Property Act”, and the Stewardship of Public lands Strategy”, that will be proclaimed - and becomes effective - on May 16. 2006. Hirsi Ali, the Dutch MP, Somali born, a strong critic of Islamofascism, has been effectively hounded out of the Netherlands.
She wrote the screen play for Theo Van Gogh's film on the repression of Muslim women. He was, we know, murdered by an Islamic fundamentalist for this film. She was then inundated with death threats from Muslims and put under police protection. Because residents in her apartment building also felt threatened by these death threats, they applied to court to have her tenancy in her apartment cancelled.
Then, furthering this bureaucratic witch hunt, she was found to have 'lied' in her application for refugee status from Somalia. Apparently, she did not come directly to the Netherlands from Somalia, but lived in three different countries before coming to the Netherlands.
This fact, coming to light, has caused opponents to call for her resignation from the Dutch parliament.
She has done so, and is, in addition, leaving the 'haven' of the Netherlands, for - guess where? The USA. She's joining a 'think-tank' on conservatism in Washington.
Europe's loss. Our gain. And so, Europe sinks further into denial of Islamofascism.

Most of these rural roads were not meant for semi trucks. A lot of them should be put back to gravel. The roads require millions of dollars in repair. The bank is getting low. Everyone wants a piece of the pie and there are only so many pieces to go around.

I know someone in Virginia who saw the plane go down and called 911 right away.
I am surprised though that a video took so long to come out. It should help to finally counteract our enemies lies and propaganda.

The Kenyan fisheries department has taken the fish with a Koranic message caught off the Mombasa coast on Friday for preservation at its Liwatoni cold house.
At the same time, the National Museums of Kenya said it would document it for use in religious education.
The Museums' education officer, Mr Hassan Mohamed Hassan, said yesterday that the tuna was caught at Vanga, near the Tanzania border, and sold to Mr Omar Mohammed Awadh, a retailer.
He said that as Mr Awadh sorted fish at his Takaungu shop in Kuze old town, he noticed the writing, Wallahu khayru razikiyna (God is the greatest of all providers).
Mr Hassan said Islamic scholars had gone through the message and "there is no doubt that the almighty God is communicating with his people."
Meanwhile, at the Mombasa Old Town, the find has baffled the Muslim residents.
Yesterday, they thronged Mr Awadh's Takaungu Fresh Fish Shop to have a glimpse of the fish, unaware that it had been taken away.
The secretary-general of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya, Sheikh Mombasa Dor, said the message was a reminder from God that "we should not forget his teachings." via free republic

Followed in two drivers from a hutterite colony, with lots of women with them. Guess what, they showed their costco cards and they had their photo on them. They got upset when they didn't get an additional discount for the size of their purchase. Also saw several PPCLI there so went up to say thank you.
