"Are we there yet?"

thereyet.jpg

I'm knee deep in dog showing at the moment - doing very well, I'll add. But the nature of the beast means I'm up far too early and much to late to even get online, much less blog. With a few minutes to spare this evening, thought I'd check in and let you all know we're still alive, and as of today, the little guy looking wistfully out the truck window is another 5 points closer to his American Championship title.

Hey Kate, your monkey looks like a schnauzer!

Posted by: EBD at March 17, 2006 9:32 PM

To heck with the dog, I like the truck! One on the road that still has side vent windows! COOL!

Posted by: Skip at March 17, 2006 9:44 PM

Congrats Kate & Minuteman whatizname...

Halfwise, that is an awesome caption for that pic.

Posted by: Shabbadoo at March 17, 2006 9:47 PM

I'm with shabbadoo....side vents!!! Wayyy cool Kate. And a big, square side view mirror. Oh..and the pup is cute too.

Hopefully our good ole highway department will decide to clear some ice prior to your return. I hear it is more slippery than a duck's tit between Regina and Saskabush. Hopefully it will be better before you return.
FYI - the trolls tried to take over your blog while you were gone but we managed to beat them back. They really didn't fight very hard but made a lot of moaning and whining noises as they retreated.
Have a great trip... and wave as you go by.

Posted by: Grant at March 17, 2006 9:57 PM

Oh my GOD! He is just so cute! Best thing about your little pal is his doesn't talk back.
Good luck at the shows.

Road trips with intelligent, active dogs like schnauzers; especially extrapolating from the minis I've known is always accompanied by soulful looks and meaningful sighs.

Sweetpea, her pedigree name is not an option, has discovered that a 38' foot motor home is a seemly way for a princess to travel. There are chairs, couches and a large bed for napping and several fine windows for scenery inspection. The only problems are that sunny spots have an un-nerving habit of vanishing and squeak toys and balls often don't do what is expected.

And to answer the ever present question, "Are we there yet?", one can exercise command oversight and trot up to the front windshield, look out, and verify the vessels position from the GPS and visual observation. A brief conversation with the helmsman and the observer, otherwise known as Mom and Dad completes the command review and a nap is in order, after a squeak toy is vigorously reprimanded for sloth.

" Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home some night..."

Dog, truck, long lonely road... hey I feel a country song coming on ;-)

Keep the rubber on the road Kate and easy on that truckstop coffee.

Posted by: Lee at March 17, 2006 11:27 PM

Godspeed and come home safe. Your guests are OK but erzatz small dead kate is like white chocolate, a pale imitation at best. How many more points does the wee beastie need?

Hey, wait a minute -- American Championship?? I thought we was in Canada. Good to hear from you, though, and really; take care. ;)

Posted by: morison at March 18, 2006 1:39 AM

Pretty big sky there, too.

Continued good luck and a safe trip home.

Ths shows in Louisville made the news ... http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=4646115&nav=0RZF
..... was referring to a Louisville proposal that would affect dog shows such as this one. It would require any dog coming into Jefferson County temporarily to get a $5 license. When word spread Hibberd had to do damage control.

Hibberd said, “People from the club just got on these [internet]lists and these discussion groups and let them know basically yes things have been proposed but nothing's been passed, don't worry about it, come to Louisville.”

There is also some video of the dog show ... including a lady with white runners handling a natural eared mini schnauzer at the 1 minute 38 sec mark.

This proposed $5 license law fits the pattern developing everywhere - the community is host to the largest dog show in the country - and the local gov't is trying to find a way to make people less than enthusiastic about "making the long drive" there.

Congrats on the 5 points - did he get a major?

Posted by: Karen at March 18, 2006 2:47 AM

Good luck and have fun Kate. I hope you're enjoying yourself. :)

Posted by: LC CanForce 101 at March 18, 2006 4:49 AM

BTW, Kate, you should get your wipers adjusted. Its right in the little guy's field of vision.
Picky, huh?

Posted by: Lee at March 18, 2006 10:31 AM

No seatbelt for your Schnauzer! I'd report you if I knew to whom.

Congratulations on your (dog's) success - best of luck for the rest of your tour.

Posted by: greenmamba at March 18, 2006 10:49 AM

That's why we love you, Kate...willing to expose your human (and dog) side. Politics with heart as well as brain and beauty. More pictures, please!

Good luck Kate. We'll look forward to a fuller report when you get home. Drive easy, precious cargo.

Schnauzer. Do ya have to know how to spell it before you can show it?

Those are elegant dogs and look very chiseled when cut properly from a few I have seen in Vancouver. Dobies are kind of elegant as well.

Afghan hounds are regal and some people think they are not very smart. I beg to differ. Two Afghans can scheme how to box in their target. Saw that first hand.

In my teens, I was once the prey. Got cornered on an upper balcony. No problem though. Once they proved they were crafty and won the chase, they lost interest.

Ours is a Lab / border cross. Understands many english words.

Curt Weldon: Bin Laden Is Dead

Rep. Curt Weldon, who broke the Able Danger story last year revealing that military intelligence had identified lead hijacker Mohamed Atta as a terrorist threat before the 9/11 attacks, now says that Osama bin Laden has died.

Weldon made the stunning claim during an interview Wednesday with the Philadelphia Inquirer, which reported: *Weldon is making explosive new allegations. He says a high-level source has told him that terrorist leader Osama bin Laden has died in Iran, where he has been in hiding.*

Weldon cited as his source an Iranian exile code-named Ali, telling the paper: *Ali's told me that Osama bin Laden is dead. He died in Iran.*

Weldon said he last spoke to Ali three weeks ago. The Iranian exile was a prominent source for his 2005 book, *Countdown to Terror.* The book also contained the first mention of the Able Danger data mining operation.

The Pennsylvania Republican has long alleged that bin Laden has been using Iran for sanctuary. June of last year, Weldon said in a TV interview: *I*m confident that I know for sure that [bin Laden] has been in and out of Iran ... Two years ago, he was in the southern town of Ladis, 10 kilometers inside the Pakistan border. I also know that earlier this year, he had a meeting with al-Zarqawi in Tehran *

*If you look at the recent comments coming out of both the CIA and some of our military generals in theater, they're now acknowledging the same thing that I've been saying - that in fact, he's been in and out of Iran.*

All posters:

Child care day was yesterday (St. Patrick's Day).
Funny how animal lovers seem to lord it over children's issues. Dog bones thrown to the public on Conservative platform. $1200./child translates into actually $400./per child after taxation. Clever ey? Dog lovers LOVE dog bones.
Kinda stupid don't you think?

What's this? "Nice" and "rational" cabinet ministers gagged. Can we have more than three sentences from our government. If they are at least as gabby as you Conservatives by george we're going to get 'good government'.

Better get to the local MPs FAST and support them all way.

WE NEED TELEVISED TOWN HALL MEETINGS ONCE MONTH WITH LOCAL MPs. That should open up floor to democracy across party lines, don't you think.
Why certainly, it's good to be able to think a little, people.

Small dead animals should translate into LARGE FRIENDLY ELEPHANT (the peoples' consensus) on floor of House of Commons after Apr. 3rd.

Makes eminent sense. After all "democracy" has to be practised for effect -- not just preached in same old same old rhetoric.

Lib's Muutt Show, by invitation only:

Scoty, Willy, Ralffy, Warreny, Iggy, & all the Liberal doggies on show... Pooperscoopers & brown envelopes on sale.. expensive... from Librano$... Who will win the red ribbon? Why... BS... but she is a b8tch... she is in the wrong ring... arfter her, boys.... +

Commenter: The Survivor Series
Holy Nola .... the LibShit will be flying at their leadership convention .... and look like one of the Survivor Series .... which might be a good f[*]cks who behind the curtains .... LOL .... !!!!!

But where will the smart leadership money go ..... who will get most of the financial backing as candidate for the next leader???

My guess is Belinda because she represents nothing much and can be the front for the true manipulators of the Liberal organization.

When you think it through, the Liberal party is only supported by tribal voting in the urban centres .... and it really doesn't need any complex political ideas ... other than offering money inducements to buy Canadian's votes which seems to work well.

In essence, the remains of the Liberal party are utterly corrupt, and no leader other than Turdeau resurrected can bring it back to life instantaneously.

The current batch of leadership wannabees can only be characterized as "nauseous" ...... and going into another election within 2 years will totally obliterate what's left of the Liberals .... unless they can concoct a lovable leader ... like Belinda .... because all the other candidates "suck" ..... believe it .... !!!

The other alternative is to put them all into a WWE caged rassling ring and the last one standing is the leader ..... ?! +

holy crap, this string filled up with crap so quick.
I hope there's an easy enough way to block 'em.

I thought it'd be green south and near the coast, not brown in the fields. Funny how each dog has its own way of passing the boredom of field after field... some dogs notice every cow, some dogs only notice other dogs, but its been my experence that all dogs notice my daughters loppet rabbit, as she waves the ears at them out the window... hahaha. "made you growl"

Neat picture. Looks like the cheap appearing corporate interior that Chrysler was so fond of. (Had a Dodge 600 that looked like that except for the vent window.) Doggie looking at brown landscape rushing by. The passenger has hair about the same color as doggie's hair. Ladies of a certain age with their pets?

Spammers should be handed over to Al Qaeda or at least used as bargaining chips to secure the release of innocent people kidnapped by terrorists. That would put a dent in their scum/scam-bag operations.

In Wisconsin Dells tonight - hope to be across the border by tomorrow.
