I'm up to my ears in deadline work today. As if that isn't enough, I actually received an email from some blogger I've never heard of, issuing a "challenge" for me to criticize some decision Harper is supposed to have made.
I suggest said blogger check Technorati, and find out how many people out there routinely refer to; disagree with; misquote; misrepresent; misattribute; misappropriate; and just plain rant about me, my blog and my opinions - before presuming that any such "challenge" is likely to generate a response.
I don't care if you think it's important. There aren't enough hours in a day. I'm not making an exception for you.
Reader tips in the comments, and open thread.
'Till later.

It already has garnered a response...an angry one at that:
OK. Who the fuck do you think you are, that you would
a) presume to tell me what to post
b) issue a "challenge"
c) assume I even know about the story
d) give a fuck what you think?
Don't reply.
Doesn't take much to get under Kate's skin.
She is also a hypocrite, criticizing the Liberals for Maryantonett Flumian, and then remaining silent on this:

Typical.

Posted by: dmorris at February 14, 2006 1:32 PMSo, tdhStrat, what's your point? If I remember, SDA commented on that story a while ago, you might check the archives. Plus, what occured was a demotion not a promotion.
As for Ms McMillan's skin and its relative thickness, I know nothing. But having had a look at your site, I would suggest delaying your Mensa application for a couple months or so; that and you are no gentleman.

Now he's been given a hell of a lot more attention than he should have.
Last I checked, he used her personal email address, that's how she gets to tell you "what the fuck to post."
Take a long walk off a short pier, you Liberal blowhard.
Posted by: Dark Blue Tory at February 14, 2006 1:50 PMHey TDHStat - IF Kate actually got paid for her Blog - well then "maybe" we could expect her to comment on the issue. But as she does this in her own spare time - SOD OFF! Kate - us who quietly linger here enjoy your commentary when you provide it - sure we'd like more - but we would not be so brazen as to demand it. Please keep up the great work - it truly is appreciated by most of us.
And just to cover things off nicely - Kate did comment on this issue when it was initially released - I believe last week. Check your facts before spewing Vesuvius...
Posted by: SDB at February 14, 2006 1:55 PMActually, the way I read it, Flumian was made head of the same ministry, and another combined... this isn't indicitive of a promotion, simply the combining of two seperate ministries, of which she is a deputy of one, and her responsibilities have been increased.
Doesn't mean they are not going to toast her ass in a couple of months... just means they haven't got the time to deal with her yet.
You might want to take a pill there TDH.
Harpers been PM for 2 weeks, it isn't reasonable to assume he's going to hatchet everyone the first day. Also, she deserves a review like anyone else... how do we know she wasn't really good at what she did and everyone else around her was shit.
Anyway, it's not for you to tell Kate what to post or not post. You don't like it respond to it... or don't as you see fit.
Kate does a pretty good job. I don't always agree with some of her posts, but I wouldn't have the audacity to "insist" she respond.
Perhaps if you worded it in a way which piqued her curiousity or got her attention is such a way as to not think your just another freak bashing at her, you'd get a better response.
Danish Cartoon comments of note:

Posted by: D.J. McGuire at February 14, 2006 1:59 PMIt is a promotion.
She has all of her same responsibilities at Service Canada, and now she has been expanded as ADM of a superministry that has now been created:
HRDC has now been combined with Social Development Canada.
Anyway you slice it, that is a promotion.
Posted by: TDH Strategies at February 14, 2006 2:04 PMI have som questions for VDStrategies and his ilk...
Why is it that 'Liberal' or 'Left Wing' commentators feel so compelled to put the 'F' word in all of their comments? I've been known to use it on occassion, but they use it like punctuation. LEARN TO WRITE A COHERENT ARGUMENT BEFORE YOU DEBATE.
Why do they automatically assume that bloggers who support a certain politician slavishly obey said politician like mindless zombies? Is it because they do?
Why is the media so worked up about Emerson? It doesn't seem to bother voters, Harper's enjoying some pretty sweet approval ratings.
Why do Liberal and Left Wing bloggers feel compelled to 'challenge' people who disagree with them, only to revert to childish name calling in place of a real debate? DON'T START A BATTLE WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE AMMUNITION!
Damn, they get me ranting.
Anyway. Great blog and keep it up.

TDH Strategies skillfully weaves policy research and development, a wide range of communication services & products, and a special aptitude for writing into one entity.

An interview with The Dear Himself?
Is it a full-time job being a cliché expert?
Bottom line is I have a full plate 24/7.
How do you know if you're successful in your work?
At the end of the day, it's all about robust, world-class solutions.
Is it hard to keep up with the seemingly endless supply of clichés that spew from business?
Some days, I don't have the bandwidth. It's like drinking from a fire hydrant.
Do people notice that you're a cliché expert?
No, they can't get their arms around that. But they aren't incented to, and benchmarking the metrics is a challenge.
Is it hard to keep up on all the new clichés?
Harder than nailing Jello to the wall.
How do people know you're a cliché expert?
I walk the walk and talk the talk.
Can you anticipate if a phrase is going to become a cliché?
Yes. I skate to where the puck's going to be. Because if you aren't the lead dog, you're not providing a customer-centric pro-active solution.
Did incomprehensibility come naturally to you?
I wasn't wired that way, but it became mission-critical as I strategically focused on my go-forward plan.
Is your work difficult?
It isn't rocket science. It isn't brain surgery. When you drill down to the granular level, it's basic blocking and tackling.
Does everyone in business eventually devolve into mouthing the sort of mindless drivel you spout?
If you walk like a duck and talk like a duck, you're a duck. They all drink the Kool-Aid.
hmmm, enough angry people here today?
how about a thank you very much to Kate for SDA on this Valentines Day, hope you get a dinner bought or at least something useful instead of only "rants" and parking meters downtown that don't have any time left on them... uff.

No, two ministries have been collapsed into one, and she happens to be a DP in the one which is more powerful... that doesn't mean she's been spared... Your judging way to quick.
Regardless, you've already made up your mind on this.
Me, I'm expecting bloodshed for months to come.
If I were Harper, I wouldn't fire anyone yet. I'd sit back, watch the fallout, and insure that anyone I wanted in any position which may engender debate in the next 12 months, wasn't one of my people. Better to chop wood using Liberals who earned the axe, then to watch innocent Tories get lambasted because enough time has gone by to convince the public they buggered something.
Patience is key for the next half year at least. don't forget that the Liberals ruled for 13 years. You don't just pick up the movie and expect it to contain all the nuances of the book its based on do you?

After only 18 months in power, Martin bailed out on the Liberal party and left them in a total mess ... and Emerson's situation was probably the most extreme having been abandoned by Martin.
So when Harper offered him continuity to his ministerial work in a Conservative govt, he just viewed this as an opportunity to do a businesslike thing to complete his projects for BC.

Now, you may wish to take issue with TDH for publishing a personal e-mail, but don't criticize him for something he didn't say. As it is, I believe that Kate's main contention with TDH is that he's trying to attribute to her something that she didn't say.

Dr Mohamed Elmasry of the Canadian Islamic Congress does not want Canadian troops to fight in Afghanistan; he seems almost to want the Taliban back with a least a share of power. Naturally he is not "surprised" at the suicide bombings there. I expect Dr. Elmasry would not be surprised if the publication of the cartoons led to an increase in suicide bombings aimed at Canadian troops.
"Tout expliquer, c'est tout pardonner" in my view.
"Canada’s Mission in Afghanistan Lacks Purpose", Feb. 3:
http://www.canadianislamiccongress.com/fb/friday_bulletin.php?fbdate=2006-02-03#1
'...
...The more people Canada posts in Afghanistan, the more casualities [sic] our forces will experience; and not only the families of fallen soliders [sic] will suffer, but the entire country as well...
The U.S. bombed and invaded [they did not invade] Afghanistan to get rid of the Taliban government because the latter refused to hand over Al Qaeda leaders...As a former American CEO, the only support Hamid Karzai gets is from Afghanis [sic--"Afghani" is the unit of currency] who can personally and materially benefit from his American connections.
One Canadian analyst explained our country's objective as being, "to limit and then destroy the remnants of the Al Qaeda-supported Taliban, and prevent them from interfering with the construction process."
But it does not matter how much America hates the Taliban; they are a popular movement with strong grassroots support. President Karzai even said recently he could work with them, but such is the prevailing distrust of Karzai as an American mouthpiece, the call to co-operate was ignored. This desperately unproductive situation leads many Afghanis to perceive Americans -- and the Canadians who follow them -- as hostile foreigners occupying their country. Is it any surprise that some turn to suicide bombing? [Surely a ritual condemnation of suicide bombings as "un-Islamic" would be in order here?]..
Right wing militarist politicians [Bill Graham? Paul Martin? If only] are trying to sell our ever- increasing military presence in Afghanistan to fellow Canadians, but at what cost?..'

Amitai Sandy (29), graphic artist and publisher of Dimona Comix Publishing, from Tel-Aviv, Israel, has followed the unfolding of the “Muhammad cartoon-gate” events in amazement, until finally he came up with the right answer to all this insanity - and so he announced today the launch of a new anti-Semitic cartoons contest - this time drawn by Jews themselves!
“We’ll show the world we can do the best, sharpest, most offensive Jew hating cartoons ever published!” said Sandy “No Iranian will beat us on our home turf!” >>>

Excerpt:
"I know that unemployment is low in Israel, but does not justify your new venture. This will be my last time visiting your site, and assure you, that this business will not succeed.
the next time you start a new venture, please try to focus on what good will your product deliver to anyone. in your case it only makes me sad to see Israelis like you turn against an entire nation to make an extra buck. You are a LOOSER!"
The organizer's response:
"A Whole Extra Buck? Where?! Where?!"
Posted by: maz2 at February 14, 2006 8:21 PMKate:
You were quite upset at those Conservatives who questioned Harper's decision to nab Emerson if I recall correctly.
I look forward to seeing what you have to say about Harper's very uninspiring commentary regarding the now infamous cartoons:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060214/wl_canada_afp/europeislammedia;_ylt=At8mII9DNxsQLczNjoiwnY5p9L4F;_ylu=X3oDMTBjMHVqMTQ4BHNlYwN5bnN1YmNhdA--
It would have been political suicide if Harper stood up and said "High-five for the Western Standard", but he could have taken a smarter middle ground.
Instead, his comments are mostly pandering to the people like Elmasry, who as we know wants to now charge the WS with a hate crime.
I must admit I expected a more original and fresh approach from Harper than what we are seeing.
I know he has to behave like a Prime Minister, but with each passing day he seems less and less interested in his Conservative base.

A lot of people are jeolous of your site, your logic and your writing. Instead of trying to engage your intelligence they have nothing more that rants and insults. Sad.
Thank you for all your efforts.
Have a happy Valentine's Day.

Harper lays out conditions for further aid in talks with Abbas
Terry Pedwell, The Canadian Press
Published: Tuesday, February 14, 2006
OTTAWA -- Future Canadian aid to the Palestinian government will depend on its support for three key benchmarks, says Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
The government of President Mahmoud Abbas must renounce violence, recognize Israel and accept previous Israeli-Palestinian peace agreements, Harper told the Palestinian leader Tuesday during a telephone conversation.
"Future assistance to any new Palestinian government will be reviewed against that government's commitment to the principles of non-violence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations," Harper said in a statement released after the phone call.
The demands are in line with a UN Security Council call for the militant Islamic group Hamas to commit itself to a negotiated settlement of the Mideast conflict.
Unless the conditions are met, Canada could cut off assistance to the Palestinian government, a Harper spokesman signalled.
"That is a possibility," said William Stairs. "The prime minister said that providing assistance to a Palestinian government that doesn't commit to those principles . . . would be difficult."
"Any government that sits in the Palestinian Authority cannot have as one of its goals violence and the destruction of Israel." >>>

Posted by: maz2 at February 14, 2006 9:55 PMWhat really irks me is that western muslim leaders are not publically condemming the terrorist acts carried out by their fellow death cult bretheren. This seems to mean that they agree with it. Until western muslims condemn this sort of terrorist action I will continue to hold all Islamists with contempt! And yes, the Mohammed cartoon with the pullstart shaped as a bomb totally suits all you muslims until you condemn this mentality!

Good choice. Finally - substance replaces big ego show boats. I think he will be well respected.
Posted by: lakota at February 14, 2006 10:48 PMThanks CAW. I hate it when a joke is not finished. Speaking of jokes, doesn't TDH understand frickin' english? The fact that Kate allows him to troll around even after she told him she didn't want any part of his juvenile game is more gracious than what I'd be.
so THD, I'll be perfectly clear... go fornicate thyself elsewhere.
Back to the blogging battlefront, what is up with Kinsella and the lawsuits? A Liberal's way of styfling free speech?

Maz2 -- as usual hard to follow, but worth it in the end. Keep it up.
Since when is 'F' word criminal?
CHRISTINA BLIZZARD
...First, there was the tragic shooting death of native protester Dudley George in Ipperwash Provincial Park in September 1995.
Then two years ago Dalton McGuinty's new Liberal government calls a judicial inquiry under Mr. Justice Sidney Linden to probe the death. So now we've had 18 months of testimony, scores of government-funded lawyers, 100 witnesses, a made-for-TV movie and a $13.5-million tax bill.
And what was the crucial testimony yesterday?
Whether or not a former premier used the "F" word.
Give me a break....

"No comment" is a comment.
And "I don't care if you think it's important. There aren't enough hours in a day. I'm not making an exception for you" is a response.
Posted by: Jeff at February 15, 2006 9:07 AMNo, a response would have been to link to his post and answer his "challenge".
I'd already made myself clear to this twit privately.
However, nearly every day someone, somewhere issues a like "challenge", insult, ad hominem, etc. directed at me - ...
I decided it was a good time to let them all know it wasn't likely to generate the linkage they're looking for. I do my own thing here. If others want to fret and froth at what I write, that's their perogative. I'm not in the habit of getting involved in blog wars, though it seems few have noticed that yet.

Posted by: Snookie at February 15, 2006 9:35 PMWell I think this anonymous blogger may have a point. Granted, this is a conservative supporting blog. But it's unlikely that anyone can agree with the policies of any political party all the time. Chances are, there will be issues that go against what one believes in. If this blog really reflects how you feel on issues then there should probably be some criticisms of the conservative party.seeing as most issues brought up by other party's(especially the liberals) get attacked. Well unless of course the way you feel is ALWAYS the same or roughly the same as them. To realise true intelligence, one must be open to free thought. If a person closes their mind off to new ideas it will essentially retard their thinking abilities. One must also be cautious of letting their values and beliefs slip away in order to fit their role.

Funny hilarious.

EDMONTON (CP) - Canada's new environment minister says she won't support trading emissions credits with other nations or any other international deal that does not have a "direct environmental benefit to Canadians."
Rona Ambrose said she does not see the trading of emissions credits with other countries as being a high priority in her mandate of "cleaning up the air Canadians breathe."
"On Kyoto, I will say that our government will not be shipping hot air credits overseas. Our focus is on a domestic solution," Ambrose told reporters Wednesday following a one-hour meeting with Alberta Environment Minister Guy Boutilier.
"We draw the line at ensuring that there's a direct benefit to any of the legislative mechanisms or any of the international agreements that we are presently engaged in and that we will become engaged in in the future." >>>
