Earlier this week, CNN's correspondent Christiane Amanpour complained the war was being sanitized by the government."The reason that the deaths and injuries of the American soldiers don't get as much publicity is because we are by and large banned from seeing it," Amanpour said.

Ah, the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.
Posted by: Boudica at February 2, 2006 12:39 PMYes, the smell of hypocrisy is strong indeed.
However it is my opinion that the ABC kahunas have just run face first into a Truth of Life. The Truth isn't that they should show that tape.
No my friends of the deceased ground squirrel, the Truth of the matter is that they should NOT show that tape. Nor should they sho all those other tapes of nameless people getting shot, blown up, run over, or otherwise obliterated. We do not need to see that.
It is dehumanising to the general viewer and deeply hurtfull to the family of the victim. It is evil, and should not be done. Ever.
The Bigs of ABC are now faced with the evil they have wrought. My feeling is now would be a good time for a change of heart in the media. Lets see them do the right thing, not the smart thing.
Burn that tape.
Posted by: The Phantom at February 2, 2006 1:03 PMI'll believe Robert Fisk's little protege (Amanpour) when the secret police haul her off never to be found or heard from again.
Maybe she'll be on one of those box cars full of homosexuals and leftists that are heading to Montana that Michael Moore has convinced half the world that they in fact exist.
It's the media that are the real liars here.
Posted by: Doug at February 2, 2006 1:22 PMI expect everyone knew this, except moi:
James Philip "Jamie" Rubin (born 1960 in New York City to Jewish parents) was U.S. assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and the Department's chief spokesman from 1997 to 2000. He now lives in London, England, with his wife Christiane Amanpour, a reporter for CNN, and their son Darius.
After serving as chief foreign policy spokesman for General Wesley Clark's presidential campaign, Rubin worked for Democratic nominee John Kerry, serving as a senior advisor for national security affairs.

What, she bore a son? Sure she didn't have a surrogate or use a test tube? I'm sure she would have demanded her basic human right to a government paid abortion, and then blamed Bush if something even slightly went wrong.
Posted by: Doug at February 2, 2006 4:07 PMRubin also works as a news commentator for Sky News, the big satellite news channel in the UK.
Posted by: JJM at February 2, 2006 4:55 PMI can't imagine there's much of interest in the footage. A big shaking, then turning over. Something of that sort.
I just hope both men heal and get back to work. The rest is just folderol.
