This very sad and disturbing. I hadn't realized that so many Canadian aboriginal women have been murdered or gone missing. The lack of attention given to such a serious problem is disgusting. My prayers go out for the safe recovery of those who are missing. Also that family and friends of the missing and murdered may be comforted.
Posted by: Mark at February 1, 2006 11:53 AMI am so sickened when I read about the violence some women face. Thanks for making sure we knew about Melanie.
Posted by: Annw at February 1, 2006 2:50 PMThe number in the Edmonton area 86..Edmonton sun as of today..women murdered...this is crazy at the least..rumour was about 2 months ago that one or two members of the Edmonton police force where persons of interest to the kare proget..RCMP Kare proget..
Posted by: craig at February 2, 2006 12:38 AMYes I too was saddened to hear the body was of the missing Melanie Geddes.
Something that puzzles me is there are twice as many men missing in Sask but they get little or not media attention.
Also why don't our police agencies have bloodhounds that can be taken to the site of disappearance. From what I have seen and read about these dogs they are nothing short of incredible trackers.
Posted by: Jim at February 4, 2006 7:57 AMI feel sorry for the abouriginal people. Someone in their community knows what happened to this lady.
Posted by: ok4ua at February 7, 2006 3:51 AMAboriginal people don't need your sympathy they need your support in their struggle. And why assume that someone in their community knows where she is? There have been a string of white men preying on Native women, just look at serial killers John Martin Crawford, Gilbert Paul George and Robert Pickton.
These cases are horrifying and responses like this do nothing to ease the pain.
