The Northgate Report

A CEUDA news release alleges the Canadian Border Services Agency has doctored a report recommending border guards be issued sidearms;

The Northgate Report was undertaken as the result of a continuing refusal by the federal government to provide side-arms to officers notwithstanding the dramatic enforcement-focused evolution of officer duties at this country's points-of-entry as well as inland.

[...]

During the course of the study, Northgate also uncovered evidence pertaining to the conduct of the CBSA, suggesting serious public safety and security deficiencies as well as actions that indicate a deliberate intent to mislead the public on many of these shortfalls as well as on the issue of the need for side-arms.

Evidence uncovered and reported in the Northgate Report relating to Customs Service conduct includes:

  • Further confirmation that the ModuSpec report had been altered by removing the recommendation for an armed presence at the border;
  • Suppression of three separate reports (2 from CCRA and 1 from Audit Canada) recommending the arming of Customs Officers;
  • Withholding relevant reports from HRSDC Labour Officers who were investigating work refusals by Customs Officers;
  • Providing inaccurate information to Parliamentarians in Committee; and
  • Ordering the destruction of a report which compiled threats and harm to Customs Officers without authority or justification for doing so.

    In response to this disturbing evidence and the public ramifications of it, the Customs Excise Union Douanes Accise has taken the extraordinary step of asking the Auditor General of Canada to conduct an institutional and operational audit of CBSA actions on these matters.

    For all your American readers (especially Texans): Remember when you cross the northern border and the Canadian guard asks, "Do you have any firearms?" (and this is verrrry important) do NOT answer, "Do you?"

    cynicism on. As commented in other posts previously, it seems to me that Canada Customs functions primarily as an extension of Canada Revenue Agency. There seems to be very little emphasis security matters.

    Once again the Liberals seem to be more concerned about getting their take from illicit booze and smokes than on dealing with the more important border issues.cynicism off

    George; "Who else wants our borders not protected"?
    The whole liberal, and Liberal, "ban all guns at any cost" bunch. These decadent ex-hippies seem to still believe that "love conquers all", and if we just give persons a big hug at the border, they'll be equally nice and loving to us. No offence to those hippies who've grown up.

    For well over 24-hours, the Liberal Party had, and STILL even after the controversy and Canadians' outraged reaction does have as of NOW, a French Language ad released Jan. 10th titled "Pour contre..." on the FRENCH side of their webiste: www.Liberal.ca > "francais" link > "publicites tele" link > "Pour contre...". This ad says, "pour la presence de l'armee dans tout nos villes". This translates into "for the presence of the army in all our cities".

    Why does the Liberal Party still (2:46 PM Eastern Time, January 11, 2006) officially have an advertisement posted on their website implying Stephen Harper would use the Canadian Army against Canadians?

    FYI, the CRA, with questionable ethics, hires on the basis of nepotism. Just go work there on a temporary basis and you'll see for yourself. It's shockingly blatant... all over the place you see family members working inside the same complex.

    Trust me... I know. I saw it myself.
