The England Swings Vote

Welcome to the campaign website for Liberal candidate Jim Stewart, running in Nanaimo-Alberni.

Or, is it the East Riding of Yorkshire?

(Nice catch by reader Bruce from Nanaimo)

Update: that was fast - the website has been updated, with a new pic.

Liberals say they love Canada, they just don't know squat about it.

OMG this is priceless. A photo of Big Ben instead of our clock tower. This is shameful for Jim Stewart.

Now, can we hire the person who caught this to work with the Auditor-General?

Posted by: TrustOnlyMulder at January 11, 2006 9:42 AM

While this is amusing, its probably an honest mistake by a web guy. Funny? Absolutely. Copyright violation? Probably not. Innocent mistake? probably.

Posted by: paulm at January 11, 2006 10:19 AM

Y'know, after looking a little more closely, I have to wonder if that photo of the person is even Jim. He bears a slight resemblance to Fergie.

Posted by: Johnny Pockets at January 11, 2006 10:27 AM

he is a realestate agent. they always upgrade the specs.

he is moving out anyway with the rest of the liberal crooks.

just did a search on PravdaCBC about Tongson Park and the links to Maurice Stong-- they havent mentioned it in 8 months.

Posted by: cal2 at January 11, 2006 10:35 AM

I think he looks a bit like Alexei Sayle of "Didn't You Kill My Brother?" fame.

The Liberals have no pride, no honour and no ideas.

We need an innovative and creative government.

But no so creative they use Big Ben instead of the Peace Tower.

Tired.

Yes, Ex-Prime Minister>>>> "fundamental(ly) is a good, proper word.....aghrhgh>>>

Humphrey: Well, it's clear that the committee has agreed that your new policy is a really excellent plan but in view of some of the doubts being expressed, may I propose that I recall that after careful consideration, the considered view of the committee was that while they considered that the proposal met with broad approval in principle, that some of the principles were sufficiently fundamental in principle and some of the considerations so complex and finely balanced in practice, that, in principle, it was proposed that the sensible and prudent practice would be to submit the proposal for more detailed consideration, laying stress on the essential continuity of the new proposal with existing principles, and the principle of the principal arguments which the proposal proposes and propounds for their approval in principle.

(The Ministerial Broadcast)

Humphrey: Prime Minister I must strongly protest in the strongest possible terms, my profound opposition to a newly instituted practice which imposes severe and intolerable restrictions upon the ingress and egress of senior members of the hierarchy and which will in all probability, should the current deplorable innovation be perpetuated, precipitate a constriction of the channels of communication and culminate in a condition of organisational atrophy and administrative paralysis which will render effectively impossible the coherent and coordinated discharge of the function of government within her Majesty's United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Hacker: You mean you've lost your key?

He also looks like he's OD'd on crumpets with marmy and tea with milk and sugar.

This guy could never fit into a coach seat on a flight to Ottawa.

So to answer the question why is he running? So he can fly in the big first class seats and eat in the Ottawa subsidized cafeteria. It's certainly not to sit in cabinet to weasal stolen money for Nanaimo development. Those days are over for now.

Oh now there I go kicking liberals when their down again ...

This guy sold real estate? Well, I know a property with a nice pond north of La Ronge, Saskatchewan that he might be interested in.m LOL.

Liberal candidate Jim Stewart put a picture of Big Ben on his website, rather than the Peace Tower. What does this mean? He won't tell us. But we do know he's friends with many British people. Maybe its part of his plan to sell us back to Britain. We just don't know. He just won't tell us.

See, two can play at that game :D

Fergie and Alexei Sayle ?
No disrespect but Big Jimbo looks like the guy who stole Pee Wee's bike.

Never-the-less, the bell tolls for Jim.

Well Kate, if it's Roger Miller Appreciation Day at SDA, I'm reminded of another song which outa be sung by any Librano PM with a conscience. (He shouldn't be forced to mention the gun or pistol though.)

Dang me, dang me
They oughta take a rope and hang me
High from the highest tree
Woman would you weep for me.

Just sittin' around drinkin' with the rest of the guys
Six rounds bought, and you've bought five
Spent the groceries and half the rent
Like 40 billion dollars and twenty seven cents.

They say roses are red and violets are purple
Sugar is sweet and so is maple surple
Well I'm the seventh out of seven sons
My pappy was a pistol
I'm a son of a gun.

While we're on song parodies how about:

Liberal Bridges Falling Down

After all that shot of Big Ben looks like it was taken from London Bridge.

Up with Liberalism, down with Liebrano$

In England — in many ways the birthplace of liberalism — the liberal tradition in politics has centred on religious toleration, government by consent, personal and, especially, economic freedom.

This definition was taken from The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. The plot thickens; maybe the brain trust is smarter than you think.

So my question is, since the photo in the background is of Big Ben - did the LPC bother to get permission to use the photo? If they did, wouldn't they have known it's not of the Canadian parliment or were they so busy running from the scene of the crime (copyright theft) that they didn't notice they could be stealing marked bills?

Posted by: the bear at January 11, 2006 3:13 PM

ron.
Parliament is in Westminster. and by the Westminster bridge.

The new London Bridge is by "the City" near the Tower. near two miles away.

this photo taken looking south from near Winnies Statue looking toward the Westminster bridge -more or less.
maybe he thought he would look more Churchillian with Big Ben pointing up his nether parts.

Posted by: cal2 at January 11, 2006 4:34 PM

cal2...I guess I got my bridges confused. I was there 20 years ago and remember standing on a bridge looking up at that approximate angle and seeing Big Ben.

My other tie in is that since England is the birthplace of Liberalism. The Liebrano$ seem to be using that over-worked strategy....When all else fails get back to basics....An admission that their goose is cooked.

Posted by: Ron at January 11, 2006 4:48 PM

no problem
as a liberal realtor would now say.

Location,Location, Relocation.

Posted by: cal2 at January 11, 2006 6:55 PM

It does look a bit like the Victoria Tower c.1916, but I wonder what Canadian graffic designer couldn't find a photo of The Centre Block to use on his site?

Posted by: saskboy at January 11, 2006 10:39 PM

Eh. My dad's worked with this guy. Nanaimo-Alberni's my home riding.

The joke's on them, though. I'm pretty sure that no Liberal has *ever* (and I mean *ever*) been elected in that area. Solid NDP-Conservative territory.

And in England, the Liberal-cum-Liberal Democrat Party is all but a complete non-entity. Rather like the NDP.
