SEC probes income trust trading

No further information will be forthcoming, U.S. securities regulator tells NDP MP

Jan. 6, 2006. 07:35 PM
CANADIAN PRESS

OTTAWA — The American securities regulator is taking "very seriously" complaints of insider trading involving Finance Minister Ralph Goodale's November announcement on income trusts.

Posted by: Drained Brain at January 6, 2006 8:05 PM

Pierre Bourque was right, stick a fork in them.

What is incredible is that it takes the SEC to step in to Canada, to clear up a mess making the Canadian financial market look so bad.

I guess the SEC is 'owned' by the opposition.

Tired.

Good grief.....with all the RCMP investigations going on......who's left to go after the OTHER crooks out there ??!!!
I mean didn't the Liberals cut back the funding for the RCMP and so officers were let go/retired.
Fewer officers left to do the work.

Hay.....that was the plan!!! The Liberals knew this would come back to haunt them and so they thought they better cut down the size of the RCMP!!
Fewer officers to do ALL the investigations!!

Ah, the traveling freak show that is Canada continues on!

Has our financial system become such a catastrophic failure of ethics that we are now forever reliant on others to regulate the mechanics of our monetary transactions?

What a very small nation we have become.

Bad timing for this "breaking" news on CBC (the aren't up to speed on the SEC or OSC involvement yet:

"Goodale friend furious over allegations"

Posted by: Drained Brain at January 6, 2006 8:34 PM

Yes it has been confirmed. In a press release just issued by the RCMP they have suspended the RCMP Musical Ride to free up more officers to investigate allegations of scandal and insider trading concerning the Government of Canada, which is widely known as a front for the Liberal Part of Canada.

Sad.

I've expanded on this on my blog. I think I pieced together some juicy details. Check it out.

"I'm outraged that people like me are being dragged into it and all these people putting things about me and my firm and my relationship with the minister on a website," Donald Black said.

(Bloggers be wary-the wrath has begun)

"What he said was, 'I may be driven to dealing with this before the government falls.' That was all he said.

(where's the need-to-know on this? Surely most people can put two and two together. So much for the none-the-wiser theory)

"'Nother thing too, Paul, tha folks here got some traveller's advice for ya - buy yerself a one way tic and save a few bucks. Yeah - it's our policy! We pay the return fare. After, say 5 to 10. Whenever ya get out - just like Martha!"

The SEC investigation was mentioned on the National tonight. It was discussed fully on Mike Duffy's "Count Down". Mansbridge claimed that someone from the PC called him and said "Harper was going to raise income taxes". What he said was Harper would eliminate that $500. deduction and put our tax base as was before the budget. Now, I find this hard to believe. Why would Harper announce this while he is doing sooooo well? Do you think someone is also trying to sabotage our compaigne? Answers anyone.....

Posted by: jypsy ontario at January 6, 2006 9:29 PM

Anybody see Stick Chick on Duffy? SHe looks like she's been sandbagged. Says it's all smear and opposition allegations. I say she's found a home with the right party who share her 'principles'. CBC is reporting that the Tories are going to rescind the Libs income tax cuts and in fact, increase taxes. Guess they don't like the look of the polls, but then, the Tories say they opposed those cuts way back when anyway, and they still have more announcements to come. CBC was blacked out for a few seconds, and boy, did it ever look good.

Here comes the Cavalry.

I had little faith our authorities would find much. The SEC taking a peak hasnt been confirmed an investigation nor will it be until charges are laid as per their policy, but damn!!! this feels soooo good.

Every liberal pundit is spewing "allegations" as the buzz word today. Even Belinda was spewing it on Duffy. But she's twitching. Did anyone see her nervous twitch yesterday behind Paul Martin as he spoke in Toronto? She grabbed at her shirt collar three times in a split second when PMPM said Harpers GST cut would only benefit the richest and most priveledged among us. She's hot under the collar!!!

Posted by: TrustOnlyMulder at January 6, 2006 9:30 PM

Iron lady and Mulder: I watched Duffy and it was nice to see Belinda squirm. But also, I thought the conservative and NDP advisers put the liberal Christy Clark in her place when she tried to shrug off ITscam and said the campaign is only now beginning. One of those guys kinda snickered and said if the SEC is involved, its serious. Its nice to see arrogant liberals take the heat for a change.

Posted by: MikeP at January 6, 2006 9:42 PM

Iron Lady;

Thx for watching and reporting from the MSM.

I haven't watched the CBC since 2001 and don't want to start now.

Posted by: Artemis at January 6, 2006 9:46 PM

This is the best possible development.
You just new the RCMP would NOT investigate this on their own accord.
The RCMP were tipped on the SEC investigation and would have looked like fools (or bought)if the SEC found anything in their investigation.
SHAME on these corrupt liberal lowlifes.

Posted by: richfisher at January 6, 2006 9:57 PM

I liked it when Stick Chick tried to read some lame e-mail from the SEC. If you remember, she was a guest there last year sometime - rang the opening bell or something. She's probably wondering how it's all come undone so fast. Desperado, you ain't gettin' no younger; your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home... Belinda, the Liberal desperado. Boy, did she find a home with the right party - shared values and principles and all that.

Posted by: Iron Lady at January 6, 2006 10:02 PM

Do you suppose my emails to Larry Kudlow of CNBC fame and Professor Bainbridge had something to do with this?

I, being the vindictive Athenian that I am, made much of the US authorities busting up Alan Eagleson because he had Canada's legislators and judges in his back pocket.

All in a day's work. Cue the Bat Signal. Tell all your friends about me.

Or, as Bugs Bunny used to say:

"Ain't I a stinker?"

Posted by: Plato's Stepchild at January 6, 2006 10:02 PM

CBC's National tonight reported that the CPC is planning to rescind Goodale's 1% marginal tax rate decrease, and $500 exemption increase, that results in a tax refund this year (OK, will still get) , but would be effectively taken back by the rate/exemption returning to pre-Goodale for this year's remittances and taxes. ??????? Mansbridge clearly said this info had been confirmed by the CPC!

Posted by: Erik Sorenson at January 6, 2006 10:27 PM

The Liberals became so comfortable stealing money from Canadians they thought they could steal anybody's money - through insider trading on the stock exchange. But the stock exchange trades everyone's money, not just the money of stupid Canadians - and normal people don't appreciate having their money stolen by the Liberal Party in return for fine speeches.

Posted by: Gambino at January 6, 2006 11:20 PM

Erik Sorenson:

The CPC has yet to unveil all of it's own tax cut plan. If you watch the video version of the Neil MacDonald says this very clearly at the end.

The web version of the story glosses over this important fact. Of course.

The CPC may wish to get the whole picture out before the Liberals start spreading lies.

Looks like the gate keepers of the TSE will not let the market take the fall for Liberal insider trades.

PRAVDA will keep harping on this for quite awhile bring on that economic expert Neil McDonald who will declare the 2% cut in GST is too much but the 1% in the base rate is not enough.

I see the poll story has already left their left focused eye.

Kenney shouldnt have been the one to annouce it. it should have been announced in a package of reforms.
one of which is the Liberal Party owes the Canadian people 100million not just the kickback.

I'm one American who, with help of a couple of Canadian friends, has been following Canadian politics rather closely for several years now.

I'm certainly no expert but from my vantage point, it's amazing, the degree of Liberal arrogance and amorality in their acting as though the Canadian Treasury (and, apparently, also the Canadian stock market) are adjuncts to the Liberal Party purse.
