"Cons Against The Cons..." yet another marginalized group against those scary Tories - well done!
Re that worn-thin "scary" theme, did anybody notice the revealing comment by the eminent and undoubtedly objective Allan Gregg of Strategic Counsel, quoted on the CTV Election Blog?
"Again, he thinks Canadians wouldn't mind replacing the Liberals, but they just aren't sure about the Tories. But if Harper can keep his 'horns hidden,' his chances get better and better, Gregg said."

Posted by: Drained Brain at January 3, 2006 10:28 AMOnly Paul Martin can protect minorities ... especially criminals!
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at January 3, 2006 10:33 AMWell done, Kate.
On the other hand, why should anyone be surprised that this other group of criminals feel they should be entitled to their entitlements?
Posted by: Rob R at January 3, 2006 10:36 AMFunny but true.
Did anyone notice that crime in New York, including murder, was recently reported as being the lowest since the 1960s? Gee, and with all those guns too. I don't suppose it could be because the police actually do what they're supposed to do, like go after the criminals, and the judges actually put them away for a long time.
Posted by: John Crittenden at January 3, 2006 10:36 AMHarper says Conservatives would stop partisan polling with public money
OTTAWA (CP) - Stephen Harper says a Conservative government would stop all partisan polling with public money.
The Tory leader says he would ensure open competitive bidding for all public opinion research.
Campaigning in Quebec City, Harper is also promising to initiate an independent review of abuses of public-opinion research that have been raised by the auditor general. >>>

Not to horn in again, but here's Gregg's full quote from the actual CTV piece re "The survey conducted by The Strategic Counsel for CTV and The Globe and Mail:"
"Gregg noted that while the Liberals lead has been reduced by nine points, none of that support went to the Conservatives.
"So here you've got Ontarians saying, 'maybe I want to throw these rascals out, but I don't know if I want to vote for those Conservatives'," he said.
"The answer is on the social and moral questions," Gregg said. "The whole notion that the Conservatives don't reflect mainstream, middle-of-the-road, consensus-oriented Ontario."
However, he noted that Harper has managed to reduce his "intensive negatives," saying, "if he hasn't managed to take off his horns, he has managed to make then look a little smaller."

How dare anyone imply that pollsters project their own opinions and make subjective inferences?
Posted by: Drained Brain at January 3, 2006 10:40 AMThe Conservatives big mistake...When elected they failed to do their job...Form a minority government and govern. It's no wonder that Harper is portrayed with horns. That's all he did in the house was to horn the Liberals. A golden opportunity squandered by his own ego and to the detriment of his party.
John Crittenden's remarks are so naive, baseless and uninformed it's no wonder the Conservatives can't run away with what should be a convincing victory.
Posted by: Ron at January 3, 2006 11:11 AM"Only Paul Martin can protect minorities ... especially criminals!" It takes one to know one, as far as I can tell.
Well done, again, Kate. Actually if this were printed or covered in the Main Stream Media, it would probably benefit the Conservatives. A lot of people are truly choked about our lax justice system.

Posted by: Mike at January 3, 2006 11:44 AMKate - Super job! That's what we call a "Smackdown".
Posted by: MCPO Airdale at January 3, 2006 11:50 AMWith the Lie-beral's we have criminals protecting and giving "entitlements" to criminals. Canadian's deserve honest government.
Posted by: Bruce Randall at January 3, 2006 12:06 PMGreat post again Kate.
I know I'm somewhat biased, but this is no discusion.
Anyone notice the total lack of input by Gynn Alan and Marcie.
They are virtually unarmed in this debate and bring nothing , except of course for
1) "You're a racist" (Marcie) and
2) "Stealing our tax dollars is funny, if you do it with enthusiasm" (Glyn)
Alan, being an Eastern lefty lawyer is virtully silent.
Probably owes the gubmint for his brown envelope, er uh "job".
This is a glaring representation of what the left has to offer anyone.
If this were a prize fight the champ got tangled in the ropes entering the ring and knocked himself out.
Start charging greens fees? You Conservatives are such brutes!
Posted by: Bob at January 3, 2006 12:16 PMBruce,
"Canadian's deserve honest government."
In the upcoming election, anyone who doesn't vote or who votes liberal, deserves to live in a country run by organised crime.
Posted by: Rob R at January 3, 2006 12:57 PMFunny how the liberals don't talk about representing the majority. I thought the idea of a democracy was the will of the majority governs.
The liberals have so many secondary minority issues to secure support from special interest groups that they can't even begin to properly address the issues that are important to the majority and therefore the country as a whole (as per Mark Steyn: family, faith, defense...).
Posted by: Martin B. at January 3, 2006 1:37 PMRob R, this is so very true.
Posted by: Bruce Randall at January 3, 2006 1:38 PMMartin B, look closely at this great canadian charter of rights we have and you will understand why the majority is no longer meaningful. Virtually anything can be done in the interests of the minority under the charter, the charter is legitimacy.
Remember martin saying just before Christmas, I will stand up for the minority, right, to hell with the majority, and in effect to hell with democracy. This charter is probably one of the most anti democratic in the Western world. Cloaked in heartwarming virtue but with a true hidden agenda.
Katie, another great post but how can you stand sharing airtime with airheads like Marcie & Glyn? Glyn really needs to be taken to task for having items like this http://www.oldamericancentury.org/fascism_not_us_1.jpg image portraying Republicans and President Bush as fascist Nazis. Out him the next chance you get, please and thank you.
Posted by: Unbelievable! at January 3, 2006 2:28 PMMSM media and pollsters are off to an early start for the year. Basically, they are telling Conservatives to be quiet (Star said Harper finished policy announcments - yeah right), leave the field to Martin and his negative campaigning (ghosts of his father and Tommy Douglas - egad if they were Tories, voila - no public health care). Stephen Harper wasn't even born yet, and he would have killed medicare). They are actually hoping they get free ride on negativism, you know, if you aren't Paul Martin then you are a marxist or fascist. After all, if Libs weren't in power, we would have $billions for health care, education and law enforcement that wasn't wasted on gun registry, $1B to not buy helicopters for Forces, Adscam, yada yada yada. Same old argument, you Canadians don't deserve better than corrupt, tired and rudderless governance that usurps provincial powers, wants country run out of PMO and compares Harper to dead people. Solution - nail Mr Martin every time he talks about others. Mr Martin, defend your record, rather than baseless, theoretical scenarios. Conservatives, respond in kind, but don't take it personally and feel you have been personally stained; then watch out for the ambush interviews.
Posted by: Phil at January 3, 2006 2:46 PMSomeone told me years ago that Canadians are comprised of two groups of people; losers and those that feel sorry for losers. I was greatly insulted but as the years go by, I notice more and more our inclination to drag ourselves down rather than pull the needy up, ridicule the productive and glorify the non-productive---a sure recipe for failure!
Posted by: Al at January 3, 2006 3:07 PMPoint taken, Western Proud. Scrap the charter and adopt the American Bill of Rights. It's been contemplated by far greater minds than PET for use in a democratic society.
Posted by: Martin B. at January 3, 2006 3:33 PMAl so true, the lowest common denominator.
Posted by: Western Proud at January 3, 2006 3:37 PMRob R. -- right on. I am not going to try and account for the rest of the country, but as a British Columbian I am going to be personally embarrassed if any Liberals get elected here. CPC, NDP, Green, Rhino, heck even PQ if they had any candidates, anything except those crooks.
Posted by: morison at January 3, 2006 6:12 PMHow many people laughed at Randy White every time he stood in the House and demanded an end to Club Fed? He's retiring to devote more time to actively changiing the penal code. BC judges are a joke, though I have to say, given the shooter in Toronto was out on bail, and this reverse onus b.s., maybe they're all flakes.
Posted by: Iron Lady at January 3, 2006 6:17 PMRon, if you have an opposing opinion as to why crime rates are down in New York, could you please post it? I do so like observing rational, well thought out, intelligent debates...oops sorry ron, I forgot it was you
Posted by: greg at January 3, 2006 6:47 PMThe fear Harper crap is the Liberals most effective ploy and the main CPC obstacle.
Yet, the squandering of public monies on Libranos *perks* seems worthy of some fear.

There is no end in sight for scams galore. Guess Liberals feel entitled to spend their / our surplus? But fear the CPC? TG
Posted by: TonyGuitar at January 3, 2006 6:48 PMReading the PMPM lead at cbc.ca, he was praising his Hitler Youth Camp project, ahh excuce me, I mean, NATIONAL DAYCARE or "GET EM WHILE THEY'RE STILL PINK" program as the first new social program in a generation! Even threw Tommy Douglas into the mix! Great another social Program that will be grossly underfunded, mostly unaccounable, overunionized and with unacceptable wait times

Excellent comment. An aside mentioned earlier. Why is it no one mentions that the Liberals sold Canada's ports to the Biker's. Here in B.C. to the Hell's Angels. If you think I'm being biased, ask any of the people who used to be with Port's Canada Police(I know a few).
