Forget those extra 10 pounds. They aren't going anywhere. So much easier to swear off a few flabby words.
Let's start the new year off fresh and dump the comfy cliches once and for all. Some of the ones below always sucked; others have worn out their welcome like an incontinent grandma.
I say we pinky-swear not to use the following words when we blog, as of midnight, New Year's Eve:
* asshat
* moonbat
* sweet
* MSM
* idiotarian
* heh
Add your own in the comments.

Posted by: DrWright at December 9, 2005 9:30 AMExcuse the dumb question... but what does 'moonbat' mean? I haven't used it cause I don't know its meaning...
Posted by: Jose at December 9, 2005 9:34 AM"[something], indeed," as in "Cliches, indeed."
I support the war on cliches!
Jose: supposedly it means someone who won't change their position when presented with facts that show they are wrong. I think a lot of rightists think it's fair to assume that leftists are, by default, wrong, and that their positions are necessarily based on false premises. It's continued use as a catch-all for all leftists does nothing for genuine debate and discourse (not saying that those are goals of anyone in the blogosphere, just saying).
OH! I got another cliche to ban:
"Just saying."

Posted by: Warwick at December 9, 2005 11:00 AMCan we use SIW (Senators in Waiting) for MSM?
Posted by: Gary at December 9, 2005 11:04 AMMoonbat is a political epithet coined in 2002 by Perry de Havilland of "The Libertarian Samizdata," a libertarian weblog. It was originally a play on the last name of George Monbiot, a columnist for The Guardian.
Posted by: steve not in ontario at December 9, 2005 11:16 AMNyet, comrade. Asshat was a mainstay in my vocabulary long before most people knew what a blog was and I have no plans to retire it.
Posted by: Sean at December 9, 2005 11:38 AMI hate to lose MSM because my chubby fingers have difficulty typing mainstream media without making a typo.
I agree with all the rest Kahty. Sort of.
Therefore, I will stop using MSM if we acknowledge that the current mainstream media are nothing more than Liberal "Lickspittle".
G'day eh?
See what I mean about chubby fingers, Kathy?
Sorry!!
For the best definition of the word "moonbat", do a search on Wikipedia. You'll get the "whole enchilada" there. Say, isn't whole enchilada a cliche?
Posted by: DoubtingThomas at December 9, 2005 11:49 AMHow about adding Bwhahahahaha to the list...that is so lame.
I agree with nixing
- moonbat
- boondoggle
But MSM is still a good way to indicate main stream media or pravada newspaper.

Posted by: Doug at December 9, 2005 1:13 PMI don't suppose we could do away with "blog" by any chance?
Posted by: Occam's Carbuncle at December 9, 2005 1:36 PMHey, yah, Occam- "blog" is indeed a crappy word. When I first encountered the word I assumed it meant a silly walk or something gay guys do to each other.
I always get the same reaction to the word "blog" when asking folks if they know about them. They frown in disgust and ask, "What's that?"
I fear we may be stuck with the word "blog" and will always be known as "bloggers". I swear, they sound like dirty words, curses or epithets.
I wish there could be a new word for this thing we do here. Really.
Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at December 9, 2005 2:29 PMAre you all crazy?

No wonder the Liberals are so successful.
Christ, get some balls and some individuality and use whatever god damned words you want to express yourself wherever you want .. and the rest of you can damned well tolerate it.
Isn't that what you people are on here whining about all the time .. freedom of expression the stupidity of political correctness etc etc sheeesh use the brain people! Watch you don't fall off the that cliff to the left of you.

Posted by: PGP at December 9, 2005 3:34 PMI made a list of the 7 words you can't say during this election:
idiot
criminal
extremist
private

majority
Gomery
Phil,
Also add the following words (and variations thereof) that MSM have voluntarily banned for use in describing the federal Liberals and their policies: "nazi", "dictator", "thief", "liar", "thug", "whore", "incompetent" among many others.
Other words unofficially banned from MSM daily use include: "freedom", "democracy", "efficient", "effective", "intelligent", "individual rights", "normal winter weather" and "christmas".
Addendum note to the above: the MSM will substitute "two hundred forty dollars" in place of "christmas". For example: Mr. Prime Minister, is that your "$240 wreath"? To which he would answer: "Why yes it is. Season's greetings Mary Lou and Barbara.

The Definition of "Useful Idiots"
Oh brother. U.S. Activists Trek Toward Guantanamo.
HAVANA - American activists reached the halfway point in a long trek toward the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay to protest treatment of terror suspects, but it appeared unlikely the communist government would let them enter a Cuban military zone to reach the U.S. outpost.
Marchers from the largely Christian group, Witness Against Torture, said by cellular telephone on Thursday that they had completed about half of the 50-mile trek from the eastern city of Santiago.
The 25 marchers, who set out Wednesday, hope to arrive at — or at least near to — the naval base by Saturday, which is International Human Rights Day. The march was organized by the Catholic Worker movement, an anti-war and social justice alliance. [Orwellian inversion of language, anyone? —ed.]
“We don’t know how far we can get, so every step forward is an amazing thing,” said Shelia Stumph, a 28-year-old marcher from Raleigh, N.C.>>>>
Question for these hopelessly stupid, narcissistic moonbat “activists:” how does it feel to be willing propaganda tools of a totalitarian government that uses torture as a routine method of suppressing dissent? via LGF
Posted by: maz2 at December 9, 2005 10:34 PMUm, how the hey did those Americans get into Cuba? It's not like you can just fly there from, er, Miami. Could go via Canada, I suppose, the problem these days isn't so much Cuba letting you in but the U.S. letting you back in when Immigration sees the Cuban visa stamp in your passport.
I nominate "whatever". 'Cause, you know, whatever.
Posted by: Meg Q at December 9, 2005 10:59 PMHow about dropping the phrase "extreme right-wing" when referring to the left-of-John-Kerry Conservative party? Any chances that will get traction among the idiotarian moonbats in the MSM? It would be sweet to see those asshats (Liberano senators in waiting / future governors general) admit that the Conservatives are actually left of center. Or to clearly make it, really really, the very very number one top priority. Foo. Heh. Indeed. Read the whole thing.

Actually I've never used the word before, but I've seen it used lots on other sites I look at. I've not used any of those nominated words, although I do spell out "Main stream media" from time to time, because MSM means nothing to 99% of english speaking people. Acronymns are supposed to save people time, not send them scurrying to Wikipedia to join the "in crowd" on the web.

Posted by: tomax7 at December 10, 2005 8:52 AMListen to this. I on regular occasion visit the Rabble forum called babble. It is a moonbat forum for sure. When this blog entry (Charles Adler On Fire - http://www.conservativegroundswell.com/audiovideo/ProudToBeCanadian.ca_Adler_on_Line_12_07_05.wmv) was posted on ' www.proudtobecanadian.com ', I posted the link on several other blogs and forums, including babble. I thought it was a great example of good radio programming and they would enjoy listening to it as much as I did. There were 3 quick replies to my kind and considerate post and link. The first called Adler a loudmouth hack. The second reply called Adler an embarassment to loudmouth hacks. The third reply made no sense at all. When I tried to add another reply, I notice the thread was locked! Of course, since nobody was allowed to post a reply, the thread would very quickly drop out of sight, so it would never be heard. That’s not even the best part. I logged on to babble tonight, and it says I’ve been banned. BANNED! Banned from the ‘pulse of Canada’! I must admit, I’m a little shocked, but maybe I shouldn’t be. Here’s a copy of my e-mail to babble:
I have tried several times to access the babble forums and it keeps saying that I am not yet activated or I have been banned. I know that my account was activated, so it would appear I have been banned. I cannot think of anything I might have done to cause me to be banned, so would you be so kind as to check my account status at your end? Thank you. I look forward to participating on this blog again soon and engaging in what our national television network call’s “the pulse of Canada”. Thanks again. BTW, my screen name is Chazz. Any other information you may need from me, don’t hesitate to ask.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. Chazz
Adler is a bit of a loudmouth, but at least he's sincere and I don't think he's anyone's puppet. I guess the people at Babble just don't know how to debate anything constructively, so they decided to just ban you. Welcome to the Interweb, where the weak get big heads when they are given Bannanation powers.
Posted by: saskboy at December 10, 2005 6:12 PMDefinitely need to add "blogosphere" to that list.
