Last week in the Saskatchewan legislature;
Mr. D’Autremont: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. In today’s world almost everyone has heard of blogs. Even the Minister of Learning has heard of them. Last week he even quoted from one of the more prominent blogs that reports on Saskatchewan issues. The minister took issue with smalldeadanimals — one word — .com blogger Catherine McMillan’s opinion that our leader, the member for Swift Current, is the real thing. Mr. Speaker, the minister said that he thinks that bloggers are totally irrelevant. The Minister of Learning, during his Speech to the Throne on November 14 said, and I quote:
. . . but I will tell you that the Saskatchewan people that are going to . . . the polls in the next election are not going to be swayed by . . . small dead animals.
Well, Mr. Speaker, smalldeadanimals.com and the bloggers had something to say about this. Readers of her blog would know that McMillan was very happy to be mentioned by the minister. In fact she called getting slagged in the provincial legislature by Learning minister Andrew Thomson a high point of her blog.
Blogger Shane O. had this to say: If you can pull off that kind of influence, Kate, and actually kick the Sask socialists out of power — you may just convince me to move my family back to Saskatchewan.
Some Hon. Members: — Hear, hear!
The minister may be interested in knowing that smalldeadanimals.com had more than 1.2 million hits, averaged 4,000 a day and 29,000 a week."

Canadian blogosphere rising from Magic Statistics
Last week Kate McMillan of small dead animals exposed a Saskatchewan government online poll as a fraud. She hit a nerve, apparently; she was then attacked by Minister of Learning (say what?) Andrew Thomson. A member of the opposition defended her in ... [Read More]

Saskatchewan is just the warmup, its bringing down Reg Alcock and Paul Martin that is the coup de grace.
Posted by: Plato's Stepchild at November 27, 2005 12:06 AMYour blog is killer! I think the NDP now Knows that!!!
The NDP has lost all rural credibility and now I think their feeling the urban vote slipping away too. You can pile B.S. only so high before it tumbles down upon you. With the Gov employees the only remaining sure vote for them, there will be mass hiring to shore up the ranks before the next election. The surplus from oil makes a good war chest. Bashing your blog is not going to win them any votes!
Attagirl, Kate! (still the 'iron fist in the velvet glove), uh.......exactly what does a 'Minister of Learning' actually do?

Awesome work Kate!

It must be reassuring to see all your hard work making a difference.
Posted by: LC CanForce101 at November 27, 2005 1:53 AMWe won't be swayed by small dead animals? Wow, the Learning Minister is off there. He needs sum learnin'!!
Well, I have issues with this guy like I do with Calvert. Calvert blew it for high-tech with his antiquated notion that computers are just calculators with a bigger screen. Now the Learning Minister has to show his ignorance.
I guess this is why 10 year old kids at Downs Primary School in the UK have a radio show that is podcast (audio blog) and the students in Sask leave 12th grade barely being able send email.
Keep it up boys, you can't go much farther backwards before you fall off the earth altogether....
Oh, and I'm going to consult with smalldeadanimals.com for many days prior to the next election in case you'd care to rethink your position Mr. Learning Minister. I'm not irrelevant, and I'm sure you'll know it soon...
Posted by: Altruistic at November 27, 2005 2:03 AMMinister of Learning? Was 'education' too big a word for them? (I know,it's only one more letter)

Mwaah! Shine on. Life is good. Thanks.
Posted by: EBD at November 27, 2005 5:48 AMIt's wonderful when politicians on the right way the word 'blog'. It's even more wonderful when politicians on the left say the word 'blog'.

Posted by: Justthinkin at November 27, 2005 11:00 AMHear, hear indeed.
Increasingly we do not feel that main stream media can present an unbiased story anymore. Witness yesterdays events...
We had the CBC declaring a Liberal majority based upon one poll and we had the Star Phoenix on the other hand declaring the demise of the Liberals on the front page based on another poll. So we can clearly see the political bias present in news reporting everyday. I find it offensive however that I must fund the CBC whether I like it or not. At least I'm given the choice of buying the S-P or not.
We are not dumb masses. We'll find alternate outlets for our news that cover a wider spectrum of aspects in order to attempt to chisel down to the truth. Unfortunately, this is a roll main stream media seems to have abdicated.
