Iraqis Vote Again

Omar reports that as of 2:45 local time, things are going smoothly in the Iraq constitutional vote;

The turnout in our district looks quiet good and actually going to the voting office was a good opportunity to meet some friends I haven’t seen in months.

I met one friend on the way and when I asked him what would his vote be he said that he hasn’t decided yet "if I voted yes I would be approving some articles that I don't agree with and if I voted no we would go back to where we started from…" he said and that was really refreshing because this guy who used to believe in conspiracy theories and stuff like "what America wants is what's going to happen" now feels that his vote can make a difference.

Updates - Via Fourth Rail. Dr. Fareed Ayar of the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq, estimates over 11 million participated, a turnout of nearly 70%. More at Instapundit including this quote;

During the Iraq elections last January there were 347 terrorist attacks on voters and polling places. Today there were 13."

The best way to measure success in Iraq is to note the relative silence of the western media in covering the referendum vote. The less they say, the better things went, though I suspect they'll be scratching for all the bad news they can dig up - old news, if need be.

Update Oct.16 - what I said.

Give Me Your Tired, Your Oppressed, Your Tyrannized

An Iraqi woman [with her newborn baby - see image] who recently gave birth casts her vote in Iraq's referendum on the new constitution in Najaf. Take this image in, nice and slooooow.
Unbelievable, I am barraged daily with media messages telling me how bad things are going. The media increasingly becomes more dangerous. It's not just The Global War on Radical Islamofascism, its the Global War on the lunatic lib left media. No matter how many different ways they insist the world is flat..............>>>>>> more

Sincere congratulations to the brave and amazing Iraqi people. May they always remain free. Sad that for so many decades Iraqis were kept silent and shackled while the UN propped up their tyrant, and now that they can speak the MSM refuses to report what they have to say.

"This Vote Was a Great Blow to the Terrorists"

Iraqi reader HaiderAjina emailed the following note about the Iraqi referendum on their new constitution:

Greetings All,

It seems that a larger percentage of Iraqis voted the constitutional ballot than in the election of January. 65-70%+ are the early numbers.

I spoke to my father last night about 8am his time in Nejaf and he said he was going to go vote at 9am. I did not get a hold of my Grand mother and cousins the lines to Baghdad were busy. I called my father gain around 9am my time. He said he had voted (yes for the constitution) and that the turnout was strong and matters were calm. Security in Nejaf was very good indeed he said. There are a number of neighborhood watches and Iraqi security patrols. He has not seen American soldiers patrolling the street in Nejaf for weeks now. His voice was strong and very very happy almost giddy I would say.

This vote alone was a great blow to the terrorists in Iraq. This was a great step towards a solid democracy in Iraq. The constitution now guarantees Iraqi’s rights and protects them from their government. The rule of law will prevail stronger now. I no longer fear for my Iraqi family from their government. They now truly hold their destiny in their hands, and they can plan for their future. The security issues are being dealt with on a daily basis and progress in Iraq is measurable and evident.

Again the Ajinas in California and in Iraq owe a great thank you to the men and women of the USA (military & civilians) who are making all of this possible. Thank you for all your sacrifices, all your hard work, and your tenacity and vision and thank you for a bright future.

Regards
Haider Ajina

No Celebration at the AP

AP’s story about the very likely approval of the Iraqi constitution is a textbook example of how to write a story about a positive historic event and make it sound like a disaster in the works: Iraq Charter Seems Assured of Approval.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq’s constitution seemed assured of passage Sunday, despite strong opposition from Sunni Arabs who voted in surprisingly high numbers in an effort to stop it. The U.S. military announced that five American soldiers were killed by a bomb blast on referendum day. >>>> LGF

Call them [Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$ included] what you want, but don't call them "liberal".

A good sign that yesterday's Iraqi constitutional referendum went really well: there's not a thing about it on the Huffington Post blog. Funny, how we right-wing neocon chickenhawk warmongers are thrilled to see Ay-rabs exercising their democratic rights, while self-proclaimed "liberals" are too despondent to even mention it.

The people of Afghanistan, until recently under the jackboot of a tyranny so repressive it banned music, held their own election not too long ago. HuffPo maniac Larisa Alexandrovna, in a characteristically unhinged post recounting the Bush Administration's allegedly dubious achievements, could bring herself to say no more than the following about the extraordinary events in that country:

A once systematically murdered Poppy population, still mere fledglings only hoping for their day to grow up and become Heroin, has been released from the grasp of Afghan talons and is now able to enjoy a non-passport travel policy to any nation and in large groups.

Hey, the Taliban may have been a little extreme, but they made the trains run on time kept the opium trade in check.

I am so bloody fed up with the fine word "liberal" being used to describe these Marxists, nihilists, "anarchists", conspiracy-mongers, Castro/Chavez acolytes, Saddam apologists, "anti-Zionists" and totalitarian control freaks [Librano$ included]. There's nothing even remotely liberal about them, except for their firm belief that they - and only they - have the right to make the most outrageous statements without their brave dissent being stifled. (By "stifled", I mean "criticized".)

It's time to stop calling them "liberal" and to start using a more accurate word to describe these people. It begins with "F" and it's most commonly associated with a man who allegedly kept the opium trade in check made the trains run on time.
