2005 Small Dead Blog Awards - Cast Your Vote

Nominations are closed and it's time to vote for your favourite blogs -- follow the 'continue reading' link to cast your vote.

One vote is allowed per computer in a 24 hour period. Voting ends at midnight (Mountain Time) on Friday Oct 21/05. The voting has been broken up into separate polls for each category. This is perhaps a bit awkward, but it allows me to send HTML voting code to the owners of nominate blogs who want to display the individual voting boxes on their sites (e-mail me at digiteyesed [at] gmail [dot] com if you want the code).

Accuracy is everything from Waking Up On Planet X

This doesn't appear to be working out very well.

How be we start over again?

Most of your visitors missed the nominations I think. At least that is what happened with me.

Otherwise, your blog is great and I check it frequently.

Take care...

I really don't want to be the messenger who gets shot, but this poll is fatally flawed. By default, the radio button for the first entry in each category is turned on. Worse, there is no way to express no choice in a category. As a result, any collected data will be worthless due to the built in bias for the first position.

I'd sure be happy to vote in some categories, Sean, but before it's too late you may want to retract this beta version and make one particular change: every category should have a "No Opinion" option, and that option should be the default selection.

I'm just tryin' to help,
Tony

Thanks to whoever nominated me for best Blogging Tories blog (It wasn't me - I swear). :)

Although I'm surpised I got nominated for and not best new Canadian blog.

How can Wild Duck Diary be both the best new Canadian blog and the best new American blog?

"Most of your visitors missed the nominations I think. At least that is what happened with me."

It was advertised prominently twice over the past week.

"I really don't want to be the messenger who gets shot, but this poll is fatally flawed. By default, the radio button for the first entry in each category is turned on."

Yeah, but no vote is entered for a category unless you hit the vote button. You have to hit the button separately for each category so there shouldn't be any danger of someone accidentally voting for the wrong blog.

"Worse, there is no way to express no choice in a category."

Sure there is -- just don't hit the vote button for that category.

"every category should have a "No Opinion" option, and that option should be the default selection."

I'm afraid that I just don't have the time or energy left to recreate each poll at this point (which is what I'd have to do). I guess I'll just chalk it up to experience this time. :(

"How can Wild Duck Diary be both the best new Canadian blog and the best new American blog?"

Canadian and American contributors.

Oops, I get it now Sean. Sorry for getting ahead of myself. Ok, now I go vote. Have fun y'all, y'hear.

Kate & Sean:

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the nomination for best new blog. It's a real honour to be running along side some of the best in the blogsphere.

Keep up the good work guys. You give us bloggers much need credibility.

Posted by: Aizlynne at October 8, 2005 10:08 PM

Kate & Sean: Thanks so very much for your energetic, down to earth blog. There are some wonderful blogs represented in these ranks.

Thanks so much to so many of you for developing some classy political blogs!

"Kate & Sean: Thanks so very much for your energetic, down to earth blog."

Just to clear up any confusion: this is 100% Kate's blog. I and some others were invited to guest blog for a couple of weeks while Kate was travelling, but she'll be back shortly. :-)

Posted by: Sean at October 8, 2005 11:32 PM

Sean (& Kate, since it's her blog), I want to add my thanks to Aizlynne's for the nomination - how fun!

I am in a tight race. Thank you to all who voted for me. If I win, I'm using the proceeds to finance a new toga and sandals.

Posted by: Plato's Stepchild at October 9, 2005 8:14 AM

How did our trackback get over here? Grrr. (We haven't decided whether it is right to send our readers to vote.) It seems I screwed up when composing the last entry, I'll go fix it.

Posted by: Ruy Diaz at October 9, 2005 12:37 PM

Too bad there isn't a half-vote for second choice. Best Blog Post was too tough. CN

Posted by: Colin Newland at October 9, 2005 3:49 PM

Confused - I must have missed the definition of blog eg. imho Project Alberta is a bulletin board where many people can post, including some open categories, not a blog where the owner(s) post entries and the masses can respond by comments. Still, a good exercise here for future contests!

Protein Wisdom was nominated (more than once) for most humourous blog. How come that blog isn't listed under that category?

Posted by: Ed Minchau at October 9, 2005 4:13 PM

"Protein Wisdom was nominated (more than once) for most humourous blog. How come that blog isn't listed under that category?"

It was removed at Jeff's request (he's good friends with Kate so I figured I had best honour his request).

"Confused - I must have missed the definition of blog eg. imho Project Alberta is a bulletin board where many people can post, including some open categories"

Yeah, I kind of discovered that after the fact, but I didn't have time to check out all of the sites beforehand. Oh well, that's something to watch out for next year if Kate decides to keep this going.

"If I win, I'm using the proceeds to finance a new toga and sandals."

I was going to say that first prize is dinner and a movie with Kate, but then I thought better of it as the odds are that she can take me in a fight.

I thought I would create a generic thank you note for the eventual winners to use as they wish.

-----------------------------------------------
yaaassss thank you than you very much.

I just want to thank my father for impregnating my mother so very long ago. I owe them my life.

I want to thank, everyone involved with creating computers, the internet, the keyboard, and pizza. Without those things all this would never have happened.

I want to thank my ISP and my cat, my lawyer, my accountant, my ticket scalper, my hair dresser, ... oh dear am I forgetting anyone .... .... oh yes I want to thank Canada for letting me live here and providing health care, roads, really bad weather, flies, pot holes, snow ... it's so pretty in the winter. oh dear!

Mostly though, I want to thank my personal lord and saviour, Johnny Walker Red and also my western democractic based God on high for creating the universe in which I blog.
-----------------------------------------------

Please feel free to adapt according to your own mental illness.

I say again ... Awards are too silly. Leave that to hollywood ... the CBC and other big ego fanatic places. I find this exercise to be demeaning to bloggers. Lined up like turkeys at a shoot ....
Besides, very few of us have read many of the thousands of blogs out there so how can we know which are best? But then that is just my opinion. :0) (humor intended)

Keerist I'm bored this week-end. Just look at the post above .. that's the result of an idle mind.

Thanks for the nomination. I knew my Liberal connections would pay off!

Everyone who votes for me gets a $250 dollar heating rebate, free daycare, and a dividend cheque (based on the performance of the economy).

Since you didn't make any buttons for us, Sean, I took the liberty of making one. It's on my site. Let me know what you think of it.

Interesting... The Monarchist.blogspot.com is still very strong! If they promoted good Whistle-Blower bill C-11, it would be law by now.

But what is interesting is The Monarchist dot COM is for sale. What price, do you think??

Looks pretty official when you google the .com URL. Patriot? Buy it, keep it Canadian!

Are you a Loyal Canadian Patriot?

Leave the Home page of:

on your computer screen when you are

away and there will be no confusion.

The ever changing slide show with Canada's

emblems, flags and Military hero will

clearly label you *Loyal Canadian*. 73 TG

Hey! How come RANTS FROM A MODERATE SEPARATIST (http://lpsullivan.blogspot.com/) isn't up for Best New Canadian blog?

Posted by: Shane Donovan at October 10, 2005 12:19 AM

In the comments section at My Blahg, MWW wrote:

Sean Responds:

Gee… If I requested that SDA2.0 be removed from the nomination so that Robert, who really would like this award as a kind of trophy could get all of our votes… would they honor the request?

Yeah, and we all know what a good friend MWW is to Kate. However, I am curious. Given that she does not want that award and would prefer that Robert receive it instead, would her request be honoured?

Posted by: Ed Minchau at October 10, 2005 4:29 AM

Whoops, I forgot the closing tag on the italics, and the comment feature stopped the italics after one paragraph. MWW's quote is as follows:

“Protein Wisdom was nominated (more than once) for most humourous blog. How come that blog isn’t listed under that category?”

Sean Responds:

I wrote the rest of the comment above. Sorry for any confusion.

Posted by: Ed Minchau at October 10, 2005 4:32 AM

Right on, Shane. The poll needs the Moderate Separatist to be complete!

Posted by: T. Way at October 11, 2005 9:18 AM

Very unscientific and results therefore mean nothing. Just more stupidity for the Lefties to shoot at!

But, a good way to garner blog traffic and draw attention to oneself.

Posted by: Needlemeyer at October 11, 2005 1:05 PM

Kate,

Gotta agree with Tony here, I am a regular reader of this blog and have visited many of those mentioned above but don't have an opinion on a number of the categories....sadly, I can't leave them unclicked so my uninformed opinion is going to sway the voting on other categories.

Any way the default could be "no opinion"???

Thanks

Posted by: Blair at October 12, 2005 7:23 PM

All,

Apologies for my last comment, my re-examination of the voting cleared up my error. You can leave a vote unpicked.
