Redundancy

This guy gets paid public money to be funny. He's sort of funny, but I don't think he'd make a very good finance critic.

This guy gets paid public money to represent his constituency and act as finance critic for Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition. He's pretty funny and he's a very good finance critic.

I see an opportunity to cut government spending here.

Usually I let my mouse cursor hover over the hyperlinks before I click on them. Needless to say Mercer's site was not graced by my presence!

Monte Solberg's blog is not only funny, it is also very intelligently written and shows his gentler side. He actually talks not just about how crooked the Libranos are, or the MSM, but also how much he likes going home to Medicine Hat and working around the acreage. It's not always about the politics, people. Sometimes when I am frustrated about the abuse of my tax dollars or the latest injustice done by those faceless denizens of evil (aka "they"), I read his blog and remember that change does not come overnite. Sometimes, just sometimes, you really do need to step away from the 'net and go out into the yard and play with the dog.

It is my personal belief that we are VERY fortunate to have Monte as our MP. Eloquent, determined, empathetic and well reasoned - who can fight such a foe? Who'd want to?

"-who can fight such a foe? Who'd want to?" An interesting observation with funny 'ol Monte now well into his second decade in opposition.

Eskimo, I'm with ya.

When even your dyed in the wool liberal friends think Mercer is a has-been, things must be pretty bad.

He was smart though in landing smack in the middle of the tax payer trough. Right along side the most vile and putrid pigs.

A has-been CBC-er. Imagine that. Isn't that what the Senate's for?

Posted by: Eskimo at October 4, 2005 2:09 PM

Eskimo:

No, your confusing the Senate with Rideau Hall.

Don,
You're going to aggravate that fungus again.

Posted by: old squid at October 4, 2005 3:43 PM

Don - quit commenting as me. Get your own name.

Posted by: Don at October 4, 2005 3:53 PM

Old Squid and Don and me. Which one's the candlestick maker?

Anyway. Rick spent the summer in Africa fighting poverty. He announced the trip before going and said nothing about it on the way back. How - well - Liberal, eh?

Meanwhile, he is pointing out how some burgers look like feces. If Oscar Wilde were alive today, they'd be fighting over that routine!

I find Monte's blog almost intimidating. This guy is no chump. This guy has a brain. Can you imagine Goodale's blog - if he could type one up?

Posted by: Charles Fallon at October 4, 2005 4:02 PM

Monte Solberg's blog is not only not even close to being funny, it reminds me of those excrutiating local-colour trying to be amusing slice of life columns in the little free newspapers.

Now, The Daily Show is funny and intelligent.

Posted by: steve at October 4, 2005 4:11 PM

What's "The Daily Show"?

Posted by: Tony at October 4, 2005 4:23 PM

Charlie, why do you always sound as if you've got two brain cells, one usually waving good bye to the other?

Posted by: Don at October 4, 2005 4:27 PM

We in$i$t you take your $everance money $ $hut up. Go away with your package; Cuba, China, Iran... ju$t go, Dingy, plea$e. Pretty plea$e. Go away, now. ($ $hut up.) Meanwhile, the negotiation$ continue with Ding'$ people (at Mama There$a'$ Ri$torante, of cour$e).>>>

Feds insist severance must be paid to Dingwall
CTV.ca - 42 minutes ago
The federal government is obliged to offer a severance package to the former head of the Royal Canadian Mint, says National Revenue Minister John McCallum. That's because David Dingwall could sue them if they don't, he says. ...

Charles Fallon,
The CF taught me how to make napalm. I wouldn't advise making it into candlesticks, however. So, that leaves you and Don.
As for Goodale's Blog. He'd probably have a worse fungus finger than Don.

Posted by: old squid at October 4, 2005 4:30 PM

Don,

I sound like I have two brain cells because you can't actually hear me. I'm typing and you are reading. If you pull your ear away from the screen, turn your head to face it, you'll find text. That should clear things up for you.

Posted by: Charles Fallon at October 4, 2005 4:36 PM

Don,
When did you start blogging?

Posted by: old squid at October 4, 2005 4:36 PM

I'm always intriqued by the sad, slightly insane ramblings of Maz. Rarely do they have anything to do with the matters at hand. I just imagine that he has a rabid, retarded gopher running around in his head.
Don
(Thank God for ointment, squid.)

Posted by: Don at October 4, 2005 4:37 PM

AH, the real Don is back. That other Don had me confused.

Re: "Pull your ear away from the screen, turn your head to face it, you'll find text."

Very witty, Charles, very witty ;-) Since we're on an tangent including Oscar, I would suggest your comment fits the mould of George Bernard Shaw, here: http://tinyurl.com/dkm7g

This is looks just like a teenager's chat room ... all that's missing are the little alien avatars.

I thought this was where you leave a comment on the topic at hand ... not waste other readers time with meaningless personal communications.

THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON YOUR POSTS. nez paw?

Posted by: Duke at October 4, 2005 5:09 PM

Yes, I believe I asked people to stay on topic. So,please do, or I'll start getting heavy handed.

Monte's humour is not confined to print where he has a chance to think about what he is going to write.
Once, while on CTV with NDPs Libby Davies, Libby jumped on Harper's lack of leadership qualities (in her mind) Without so much as a blink, Monte shot back with " Huh, Your new leader is Buzz Hargrove".
I thought that was pretty funny.

Posted by: old squid at October 4, 2005 5:19 PM

Oops, sorry. Since the original post was at least partly about humour, I was trying to riff on the role wit has to play in humour, said wit of which is sadly lacking in most dialectics. Sigh, carried out with the tide again.

No excuses needed for Mr. Solberg though, his post, as others have mentioned, is, indeed, funny and intelligent.

Posted by: Tony at October 4, 2005 6:34 PM

And Steve is by far the biggest, simpering idiot if he thinks the Daily Show with Jon Stewart is funny. It's not funny, it's F-ING PATHETIC.

Monte Solberg is funny. He's much funnier than Jon Stewart.
