I'm scheduled to be on Rob Breakenridge's The World Tonight this evening at 8 pm-ish Calgary time. Sounds like the topic will be the Star Phoenix feature from the weekend on blogging and the media, though I suspect there will be a mention of Marc Emery. If you decide to listen in, just keep in mind that radio does a weird thing to my voice - it sounds much lower in real life. Smarter, too.

It's just nerves. Can you record it to am MP3 then link?
Posted by: howie meeker at August 29, 2005 5:55 PMDon't worry, Rob is a good guy. I always listen to his show.
Posted by: Doug at August 29, 2005 6:23 PMCan't wait 'till you do it on TV. Too bad I'm unable to listen to the radio.
Funny, I have a similar problem. Extremely deep voice, made embarassingly high when nervous. Just be yourself, Kate, relax and take your time to think of the actual words to use right before you actually speak. You'll be ok.
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 29, 2005 6:26 PMNo - It's not because I'm nervous, because I dont' get nervous. It's just a weird thing that happens to my voice over the air.
Posted by: Kate at August 29, 2005 6:35 PMSmarter...and better lookin' too.
Posted by: kelly at August 29, 2005 6:43 PMGood on you Kate. I will be listening over the net and look forward to the show.
PS: You will be fine. Rob's a great guy and will make you feel at home.
To the other people that may wish to hear the show go to

and click on "Listen Live"
I listen over the net to CHQR.77 all the time from the Left Coast (Vancouver) and it is easy to set up. Test your system and with a minimum amount of tweaking it will even stream over a dial up connection.
Good luck
PS: Anybody needing advice setting up an Apple computer for this stream please E-mail me. Take care Glen
Posted by: Glen at August 29, 2005 6:43 PMYou have a short time allotment, and have to cram in as much as possible. You could always make the call from lying on your bed, sipping some wine, getting mellow....spark up a doobie from one of your trolls ;-)
Posted by: howie meeker at August 29, 2005 6:56 PMOh, I see. Puzzling. Maybe the radio people are playing pranks? :-) BTW, I only get nervous myself when asking a chick out for the first time. That's why I prefer to have a couple of drinks before doing that.
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 29, 2005 6:58 PMI'm reminded by Howie above that it's the short time allotment in the MSM that annoys me. Sometimes I suspected Don Newman of "Politics" of claiming "time management" to cut off conservative interviewees during the Panel of Party Insiders segments. That in addition to my observation of a pattern wherein he always seemed to let the lefty politicians off easy with softball q's while getting tough with all Conservatives, often cutting them off.
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 29, 2005 7:05 PMRight on! I'll be tuned in as I always am on my nightly run to Calgary. Rob's great btw. I wish his show were broadcast in Edmonton like it used to.
ciao
Posted by: Schwarze Tulpe at August 29, 2005 7:16 PMKate,
I will be listening tonight, break a leg. Don't get nervous? How about concerned? about the future of Canada under Liberal rule.
Posted by: DoubtingThomas at August 29, 2005 8:01 PMListening live now, it's 8ish Calgary time. Damn commercials.. blogs up next.
Posted by: kelly at August 29, 2005 10:19 PMKate was on Rob's show before, that's how I found the this blog about a year ago.

Take care Glen
Hey Kate, there might be a few TV stations for sale in a few months. Now if you could just get around those union contracts.
Posted by: rebarbarian at August 29, 2005 10:47 PMFor once I was actually home and able to listen to an interview. Ya done good!
Posted by: sheila at August 29, 2005 10:48 PMI enjoyed the show very much have you considered running in the upcoming federal election
Posted by: kado at August 29, 2005 10:57 PMSo little time with so much to say
Posted by: kelly at August 29, 2005 11:15 PMsomeone needs to politely tell Rob Breakenridge to stop counting to 4 at the end of each sentence - his "pause for effect" style is very annoying and ruins an otherise excellent show.
Posted by: john brown at August 31, 2005 10:40 AMKate...Is there a recording we could hear somewhere?
Posted by: Mad Mike at August 31, 2005 11:26 AMThanks to Rob's directions,
I got the interview on tape by going to WWW.am770chqr.com signed up (free) clicked on Audio Vault - chose Mon-Aug 29 - then 8pm.
You get about 9 minutes of news and intro [ time to set record levels], then Kate's interview starts. Nice record to have. 73s TG
Posted by: TonyGuitar at September 2, 2005 10:14 AMEr, sorry Rob. That was Colin's instructions.
