65 foot waves now reported offshore. Predictions of up to a million homeless.
Michelle Malkin has a list of the aid organizations already organizing.

Katrina lands from The Larsonian
WDSU has one, too, and they broke the story that there is a tear in the Superdome roof. It's a little weird to look at the weather bug in the corner of WDSU's page and see the current weather is 80 degrees (F) with light rain at New Orleans airport. [Read More]

Maybe Alberta should use some of it's oil "windfall" (as defined by the Liberals and Jacko) to do some good. A million homeless people and millions in ruined property. Maybe Alta can help. Thank-you for the direction to the list of Aid organizations for all the rest of us. It must be terrifing down there.

What's that you say, "government"?

SCiGuy is excellent.

Also read where the Coast Guard is already out at sea and following Katrina in. They will be accessing damage immediately and doing what they can to clear shipping lanes and oil facilities to keep commerce moving. Gotta love these guys.

And just retribution for those that worship SUV's over Kyoto?

I would love to see this - show those frigging Anti-American/Anti Albertans in Ottawa that we use out wealth to help our friends when they need it. Maybe we should be e-mails RK with this suggestion.
Posted by: sheila at August 29, 2005 12:04 PMI agree with sheila. I was just going to ask where are the comments and support from Ralph Klein. Americans and the oil traders need to hear some support from an oil supplier who can ramp up and help to make up the shortfall coming from this hurricane. This is an opportunity for Alberta to step up to the plate. A lot of Americans who otherwise probably never think of Canada or Alberta most of the time will immediately take notice. And anyway, it's the right thing to do.

Posted by: Colin at August 29, 2005 12:40 PMJust saw on Neale that Katrina's forecast to hit here perhaps Wednesday. Supposed to be via the St. Lawrence and Ontario, but it could well hit the East Coast.
If it does, and I happen to snap some interesting pix of the damage, who wants to see them? Just let me know via this thread or my email.

That was awesome, Glen. Helluva hurricane! Hope it stays away from me!
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 29, 2005 6:43 PMNow that the US is having their "tsunami", it will be interesting to see how much aid will come from other countries. Canada will do nothing, or something of no consequence long after the dust has settled, or the water evaporates. (by the way, what happened to Canada's tsunami aid? just asking)
I am reminded of Gordon Sinclair's broadcast of how the United States aids the world, and gets kicked in the teeth. Speaking of aid, I think Lethbridge, in the south of Alberta, gives more, per capita, than any other location in Canada. Aid from Canada, will come from the grassroots level; when Ottawa sees the positive press, it will give enough to get some good ink. (Remember the hay farmers sent to the west during a drought a few years ago?)
Posted by: DoubtingThomas at August 29, 2005 8:50 PMThe US doesn't need anyone's help. They can take care of themselves very well, thanks very much. What could Canada offer, anyway? We can barely take care of ourselves as far as gov't is able these days...
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 30, 2005 4:40 AMStephen, I know you mean well by saying that, but please: New Orleans and the rest of the central Gulf Coast need all the help they can get and then some, from anywhere. As a Tulane Law alum, the Big Easy is always near to my heart, and this is just an absolute nightmare. It's going to get even worse before it ever starts to get better.
Posted by: Dave J at August 30, 2005 3:52 PMi have opened up my home to some people i am just waiting on the phone call and allow God to lead them here. Many of us need to open up our doors for these people one day it could be us. There are children with no parents. there are people with absolutly nothing but the clothes on there back the best you can do is open up your door. give them a bed to sleep on and love them the way God loves you..thanks for reading..
