With Katrina expected to hit New Orleans as a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane, The Truth Laid Bear has set up a Katrina blogging ecosystem for those who want to follow the latest news. Though, I doubt there'll be much from anyone directly in her path.
Update: A comment echoes an email I received earlier today - has the Canadian government made any advance offers to our "closest friend and trading partner" for recovery assistance, should it be needed?
After all, there's a few million in "tsunami aid" laying around unspent.

I've been reading some of the posts. Someone, somewhere, put up a link to the devastation caused by Camille in the 60s. Entire neighborhoods were wiped out. Unbelieveable.

Ottawa...please tell us that you have made the call to offer assistance to our neighbors post-Katrina.
Lots of lead time now to get the specialists, trained for emergencies, ready to roll.
Posted by: Buffalo Bean at August 28, 2005 5:56 PMWe are constantly keeping an eye on Katrina here. That is one mean hurricane. Trouble is for all the technology today, all we can do when mother nature gets nasty is to run away. Here in Houston we are thankful that it turned north instead of keeping west although I'd never wish this on anyone. They did models of a cat 5 hitting the Texas coast by Galveston and it is pretty scary. Galveston Island would be gone and Johnson Space Center would have a beachfront view.
I sincerely hope The big Easy comes out of this ok.
I've been watching WLL out of NO (they're STILL in the station, for God's sake, I hope they bail SOON). The National Guard is standing by & it sounds like they'll be relocating the people in the Superdome to ... I don't know where! if the city is as badly hit as they are expecting.
I was going to look at my pictures of NO from when I was there but they're all packed up, which is a good thing because I'd be crying my eyes out.

Thank god for some real news - Cindy Sheehan has lost her moment of fame!!!
I have been following the development of this storm all day - the devastion coming is mind boggling. I am certain that the Canadian Gov. won't be making any calls. More likely politician in Ottawa are itching to tell them it's their own damn fault. Some days being Canadian is more embarrassing than others - this will be one.

Posted by: Middleagedcrazyguy at August 29, 2005 12:49 AMHow long before someone claims that this is Bush's fault for not signing on to Kyoto?
Posted by: TimR at August 29, 2005 2:34 AMNot only will the Canadian gov't not make any offers of assistance, but, such an offer would be insulting to Americans. After all, the assistance would never arrive; all such offers by the Canadian gov't, are merely a PR stunt for the benefit of the Canadian electorate.

Posted by: kado at August 29, 2005 11:23 PMAs suggested on CHQR Calgary this afternoon, I have sent an email to my MP requesting that the DART water purification team be sent to provide safe drinking water for our friends and allies in need.
