Find the hyphenated CBC code-word in the following clunky phrase:

"right-wing think tank the Fraser Institute..."

Posted by: Drained Brain at August 21, 2005 12:23 PM

How did CBC manage to get that story out when all of their intrepid reporters are walking the picket line.
Damn strike! All that CBC Newsworld is currently airing is "Antiques Road Show", "BBC World news" and "Culture Shock". It will be nice when the strike is over and they return to their regular schedule of ... "Antiques Road Show", "BBC World news" and "Culture Shock".

Speaking of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation during its labor dispute:

The commonly-understood meaning of "broadcaster" is a radio or television service aimed at the broadest possible audience via FREE over-the-air transmission.

Why is CBC engaged in numerous businesses which are NOT broadcasting via over-the-air transmission? Why is CBC owning and operating cable-TV networks, which are NOT "broadcast" but which are "narrowcast" to paying cable/satellite subscribers? CBC Newsworld and CBC Country Canada are NOT broadcast via over-the-air transmission, not to mention the other cable networks CBC has a partial ownership stake in.

Why is a taxpayer-funded public broadcaster operating the Galaxy digital-cable music service - which is not "broadcast" to the widest possible audience?

How is it that CBC/Radio-Canada has spent large amounts of money on various NON-BROADCAST ventures?

Hey!!!!!! >:-O

The CBC got in trouble with Chretien's PMO over Terry Milewski's use of that exact phrase in a private email to an APEC '97 protestor. Terry got suspended, if I remember correctly. The CBC at the time assured Chretien it got the message wrt using "Forces of Darkness".

Yet, here the brainwashing bastards use the exact same phrase to slur people of conservative bent in both Alberta and America. This is irrefutable proof of bias on the part of the CBC. And remember, the reporters are locked out, so it's the fault of management, who most likely got their jobs because they're Librano syncophants!

Anti-Alberta, anti-America, anti-Fraser Institute, anti-non-leftist-Librano-folk (namely, us conservatives exercising our constitutional right to our political orientation). That is the CBC. Fuhck the CBC, the Communist Bastards Club.

Of course, in this LibranoFascistDictatorship with all its bleating syncophants long ago planted throughout all state institutions, the Cabal of Bumpoking Crapheads will definitely get away with this terrible abomination.

Let the revolution begin! Pleeeeease!

Woe Kanadahar! (:-o

Hey Stephen... calm down... and remember where you're reading this "headline".

Posted by: Kate at August 21, 2005 12:52 PM

I move for the complete abolition of the CBC on the grounds that it is nothing more than a Liberal partisan political propaganda promulgator. We who pay for it don't want to bankroll the Liberal's big red totalitarian machine. It is 100% useless and a national mortification of monumental proportions.

Who agrees with me?

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 12:54 PM

Ok, ok, Kate. Sometimes I just blow steam out of my ears and my fingers go flying...

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 12:55 PM

Wait a minute. Are you just playing with our heads again? I just remembered you love to do that.

So is this a prank? If so, it's your best yet, as anyone could believe that this stuff could've easily come from the CBC...

And don't worry, I'm not losing it... ;)

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 12:59 PM

Ah, yes, I just closely examined the link to the actual story... you had me royally fooled! This is the highlight of my day...

I think you have a talent for manipulation... you'd make a wonderful politician, Kate...

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 1:02 PM

Basically Kate just translated what the lead sentence really MEANS and constructed a more honest headline for Mother Corp than the typically sneaky little code-words.

It was cute too but so accurate a depiction of what the CBC MEANS that it raised some "right-wing" blood pressures.

Posted by: Drained Brain at August 21, 2005 1:04 PM

Prank or no prank, it's believable, isn't it?

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 1:04 PM

It will be interesting if anything is mentioned about US investment into the oil sands of northern Alberta during this visit, specifically into development projects. In May, SinoCanada, a subsidiary of Chinese oil giant China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., invested $119 million for a 40% stake in Synenco's Northern Lights oil sands project. Look for China's CNOOC Ltd. to make another investment after they failed to pick up Unocal Corp. I'm sure the Americans notice this and will want to upstage the Chinese.

As well, two more major deals were just cut in the past week totaling $6.7 billion in the oil sands. France's Total SA (Yup, that one) just bought Calgary-based upstart Deer Creek Energy Ltd. for $1.1 billion. And US-based Kinder Morgan Inc. just bought Teresan for $5.6 billion.

Alberta is already fabulously rich and only going to get richer. This money belongs to Alberta. As I see it though, the problem for Alberta going forward isn't Ottawa, it's large multi-national corporations. The rich families behind them are only concerned with short term money. That's the danger Alberta faces. These families are already raping most of the rest of the world. Alberta ain't that big.

I'll make a casual prediction that who and who does not attend will be the major news event of the week of the dinner. Especially at the CBC.

Posted by: Schwarze Tulpe at August 21, 2005 2:12 PM

Did ya notice who's NOT mentioned on the invitation list...

Posted by: rob at August 21, 2005 2:15 PM

Thank you John C for your clarity of vision. Now the very next step is to observe as Teresan gets public utility approval to raise the gas rate.

This will allow all of us to contribute to the families you mention, on a monthly basis, just as we are paying for new refineries every time we fill up these days.

We never hooked up to Teresan Gas, so only getting screwed in one ear, coutesey of Petro Canada. 73s TG

How about an even trade: The Corporation for Political Bulls**t for the Canadian Broadcarping Castration?

Canada gets Juan Williams and Bill Moyers, the US gets a new Governor General and Don Cherry.

Alternately, the two could merge under the auspices of the United Nations.

Funding would flow directly through Kojo Annan. This would improve the efficiency of both "journalistic" endeavors and make the bribes easier to track.

Don Cherry becomes an aid to John Bolton, and the rest of the staff join the faceless anti-American UN bureaucrats. The improvement here is subtle, but is related to the word "faceless."

I'd throw in Air America, but neither the UN nor the Libranos can countenance that level of corruption.

Anybody taking notice of the price of propane compared to gasoline? Still the same difference as always. Even though people will tell you it will eventually be the same price as gasloine, it never will be. In the Lower Mainland and most of BC the current price for gasoline bounces between $113.2 and 98.4. Most of the time it's the former. Propane just went up to about $0.579 but is still a hell of a lot less than gasoline. I converted a small block 350 GM in a 3/4 ton Chevy during the late 70s and drove it for about 6 or 7 years. Loved it. Mileage is the same after factoring in energy content, efficiency, etc. Started easily in bitter cold weather and didn't even have to prime it. Just touch the starter and go.

BTW, seeing as I'm off topic anyway, have any of you heard about the process of cryogenically freezing auto engines? Several engineers at NASCAR started freezing their engines to -300 degrees celcius about 4 or 5 years ago and are getting a whole season before having to rebuild, compared to having to rebuild after each race. Lower operating temps, less friction and better mileage. In some instances a LOT better mileage I hear.

I think I mentioned this awhile back and Kate said she used to do the same. I liked her comment about it looking like the shuttle when it was up on the hoist, what with all the tanks she strapped on.

Posted by: John Crittenden at August 21, 2005 4:02 PM

My last comment about Kate referred to propane conversion and not cryogenically freezing engines. I need an editor that likes to travel.

Posted by: John Crittenden at August 21, 2005 4:07 PM

You had me fooled, too, John. You had me believing that Kate freezes her Yamaha powerplant. The two of you could team up and do some fine stand up comedy...

Not that in Sask. anyone needs to do anything to freeze stuff in the winter. I remember the bitter cold, the house-high snowdrifts, etc...

I can't believe I'm so guillible today. Probably 'cause I laid off the caffeine today, and caffeine makes my grey matter work much faster... hell, I once learned a month's worth of calculus in three hours' time back at UNBSJ 'cause I was too lazy to keep up with classes and immediately earned an A- in the midterm, all due to huge cup after huge cup of java...

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 4:47 PM

Java ain't good for you. But alcohol is worse. Alcohol kills brain cells I hear. I quit drinking the night I couldn't remember what I liked to drink.

Maybe we can sell ALL the oil form the tar sands to China.

"Sorry, Bushy boy, buy after you screwing us on the softwood lumber deal we'd rather sell to the Chinses cause we'll get paid!! What, your short of oil, then why don't you burn some of that softwood lumber!!"

Horny Toad

We're straight, we're great and we can pro-create!

Posted by: Horny Toad at August 21, 2005 5:47 PM

I agree with you, John. Which is ironic, since I operate a specialty coffee factory. I'm Production Manager and Roastmaster all at once. My coffee has been enjoyed by the likes of Preston and Sandra Manning, Stockwell Day, other MPs and senators, even GG Clarkson, who actually came back for more later. One summer a movie was being filmed locally and Mary Walsh and Sheila McCarthy were in every day for cappuccino. Hard to keep all that from going to my head. Betcha no one on SDA has ever sipped Haitian coffee. But I have roasted it and sold it for $20 a pound. It's actually illegally smuggled out of Haiti by two missionaries (I've met them) who actually risk their lives to help the poor people of that bloody dictatorship island. The coffee I've received has been usually awesome and sometimes horrible, but that's the way it is with coffee in Haiti.

I today touch the hooch in proper moderation. As a younger dude, I made a fool of myself too often not to have self-control today. Had none at all this weekend, BTW.

Forgive me for going off-topic.

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 5:54 PM

The softwood lumber problem needs to be dealt with I agree. But there are issues involved that I'm not an expert on. Suffice it to say, don't you think this is a good time to, you know, make a deal and get it behind us?

Posted by: John Crittenden at August 21, 2005 6:06 PM

Stephen, I like a double mocca once in awhile myself. Even a cold one on a hot day. We better stop getting off topic or Kate's gonna turf us out of here. I'm going to go make me a cup of hot chocolate and dunk some chocolate chip cookies. I read somewhere that Chocolate's good for you.

Posted by: John Crittenden at August 21, 2005 6:17 PM

Yes, the dark chocolate. But very bad for the doggies. Never feed dogs chocolate. It's deadly.

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 6:28 PM

I believe, wrt the softwood lumber issue, if we'd be more of a friend and real cooperator and military ally of America rather than what we are today, more and more Americans in positions of power at all levels of business and government will be willing to reward us with more favorable treatment in lumber and many other areas. Isn't that, after all, the way it really works? Yes.

There's only one thing Paul Martin can do: become a true friend and ally of America and stop pandering to the far-left votes. He should do the right thing for his country rather than take things from it. He's dishonorable the way he behaves. No wonder I'm always saying hostile stuff about him and the Librano mob.

"I move for the complete abolition of the CBC on the grounds that it is nothing more than a Liberal partisan political propaganda promulgator." I agree.

"I think you have a talent for manipulation... you'd make a wonderful politician, Kate..."
I disagree. Kate does not seem like the "Liberal activist" type.

How SHALL the C.B.C spin the Martini ommision of Richard Cheney's visit?

Posted by: Knight of Good Mr. Iron Man at August 21, 2005 8:11 PM

Knight, looks like I fooled you here, too. I was kidding, of course, about Kate maybe being a politician. But being able to fool people is a part of being a politician, right? Especially of the Liberal-Dipper-Blochead variety.

The Criminal Brain Commission will find a way to make Paulie's not being invited to the party look like no big deal. But it IS a big deal, and we know it. It sends the message that Americans have no respect for Paul Martin either.

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 8:49 PM

Rebarbarian, careful there. One does not mess with the Goddess of Small Dead Animals, lest one has a wish to become one oneself...

Keep the mind-screwing coming, Kate! Eventually you won't be able to fool me anymore! I was embarrassed enough today with my big anti-CBC rant after having failed to more carefully scrutinize the link provided. I learn my lessons the hard way, which is the best way!

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 21, 2005 9:00 PM

Stephen McAllister, you should quite while you are is ahead (behind, whatever). You betray your myopic and misguided view of the world when you cannot tell satire from reality. Seriously. Get a grip. And Kate... if McAllister thinks this is real, maybe the fair use/satire defense would not hold up on the copyright infringement. I just hope that the blogsphere does not take the altered image as gospel and start posting it again and again. The fact that that is even a possibility is kind of sad, actually.

Posted by: BCL at August 21, 2005 10:07 PM

Posted by: Duke at August 21, 2005 10:58 PM

Rob -- Interesting, yet silly question. Of course I clicked the link. How could you think otherwise? What about my comment would lead you to believe otherwise?

And Kate... usually you above picking on typos. Of course we all know the the official name is Blogsphere. Even me.

Posted by: BCL at August 21, 2005 11:14 PM

Missed my point, but no big deal.

Posted by: Kate at August 21, 2005 11:34 PM

BCL - So what, if anything based on CBC history, is so out of line from your perspective, about the content and Stephen's statements. You make comments, but fail to justify the reasoning behind them. Or were they just thrown out there as bait. Keep in mind no response will be given to ramblings leading in another direction, as is usual from left wing trolls.

Posted by: rob at August 21, 2005 11:37 PM

wrt PMPM not being invited, perhaps he can take that up with his Finance Minister, who brought the US Treasury Secretary to Fort Mac without so much as giving Ralph a heads up.

BCL said of Yours Truly that I have a:

"myopic and misguided view of the world"

Why? Because I made a little temporary brain fart? Am I not permitted to make mistakes? Should I, for not being perfect all the time, be taken to a soccer field and have my brains blown out by leftofascist bastards?

You are too quick to judge people on the basis of one mistake. Yet you support the Liberal Party despite its lengthy history of undeniably deliberate wrongdoings and indubitable destruction of Canada. You put your fingers in your ears and sing like Tinky Winky so you cannot hear our explanations of how the Librano$ are causing the balkanization of the federation and so much more...

Prove, if you dare, that I'm "myopic and misguided".

You cannot. For you are BRAINWASHED by the Liberal state apparatus and cannot bring yourself to even acknowledge the possibility.

Nevertheless, I look forward to intellectual combat, you blustery, arrogant moonbat. I shall make moonbat puree of you in short order, as you haven't any weapons of war in the battle of truth and understanding.

Typical anencephalic left-wing extremist.

I shall return at the end of the day to see whether BCL has written anything worthy of countenance.

What happens is Candyman Martin will appear out of thin air and shove his hook down your pockets, taking all your money.

It is truly a horror movie.

We must put Candyman Martin to rest. Time for him to retire and play golf... at Club Fed minimum security facility.

Posted by: Stephen McAllister at August 22, 2005 9:08 AM

Paul Martin can forget about ever making inroads into the West. The West knows he has already written them off and could care less if they separated. Of this I have no doubt. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, but he quickly proved himself unworthy, just as Chretien did.

He should just stay in Ottawa and Lasalle-Emard and concentrate his war efforts on Central Canada where he actually has a prayer, though there're no guarantees there.

It is truly pathetic and pitiful to observe this act of desperation of Martin trying to bribe Westerners with their own money after they, like myself, have already decided for good that they want nothing to do with him and his mob.

It might hurt in the short term, but the soft wood lumber problem could be something that's set to trip the bastard liberals. In that case, it's a good thing. Alberta having direct relations with Washington and specifically Cheney, is also more than an embarrassment for the criminal in the prime minister's office. It's a signal. More so, I'd love to see Alberta negotiate their own deals with Washington and clobber the puke liberals with the big stick called oil revenues. Don't allow the criminals to come to the party and certainly don't allow them to steal any. Starve the bastards. That's where it always hurts most - money.

Presumptuous of you to assume that I support any political party at all! Nice insults, Steve. What is your basis for your screed? I said nothing that was in support of the Liberals, nor did I say anything that would have me pegged as left, right or any wing. I really only said that your biases are affecting your ability to discern satire. For this I get to be on the receiving end of your presumptuous insults? Wow. I hope there aren't more like you at home. The CPC is having a hard enough time getting any level of support, and that kind of behaviour is not helping at all.

By the way... what on earth is a "moonbat"?

BCL.

Posted by: BCL at August 22, 2005 4:13 PM

BCL, anyone who supports the CBC, in my opinion, supports, at least by extension, the state, as the CBC is effectively the mouthpiece of the state, which is tightly controlled now by the Liberals. Therefore you support the Liberal Party. Don't you actually?

You are presumptuous as well for assuming I'm "biased" against the CBC. Why is it that one is "biased" when one clearly states one's opinion of something? Giving an opinion one way or another, in your view, therefore, entails "bias" in a like direction?

As I pointed out before, you accused me of myopia and of having a narrow worldview. I asked you to justify this accusation. You haven't, and instead chalked up my honest human error of omission (I was actually under a state of caffeine withdrawal at the time) to "bias".

I also recognized the epithets of "myopia" and "narrow worldview" as ones commonly used by leftists to unjustly degrade their conservative intellectual opponents.

If it's ok for you to make assumptions about me, then it's also ok for me to do the same wrt you. It's only fair.

What's not fair of you is extrapolating from the one, me, to the many, the CPC. I was speaking for myself, not for the party. Understand? Besides, I hadn't identified my party membership in this thread, as far as I remember, so you assumed again, unless, of course, you were already aware of it.

If you wish to learn the meaning of "moonbat", there's something called "Google". Surely you've heard of it? While you're at it, why not look up "asshat" as well? ;-)
