I thought I had more than a passing familiarity with horse breeds, until a few weeks ago when I met a woman who had with her a magazine featuring one I'd never heard of.

It's the Fabio of horses!
Posted by: Brian M. at July 23, 2005 12:58 AMThose are really magnificent horses. I used to have a Highland Pony/Arab cross who had a really similar head, without the pompadour, but those Friesians -- wow, talk about careful breeding. Great photography, too.
But look at the photo just to the right of "Autumn Leaves", volume III, and tell me that it does not look like a schnauzer. Schnauzers are German too, aren't they? Doesn't that make you wonder, just a bit?
Posted by: EBD at July 23, 2005 3:17 AMI noticed that resemblance, EBD!
Beautiful animals, thanks, Kate. Lovely end to a night mopping up from flooding (which beats the hell out of waking up to water, but only marginally)
Posted by: Candace at July 23, 2005 5:15 AMNice horsies.
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at July 23, 2005 9:05 AMI used to wear my hair like that. I didn't look nearly as good. Canada was awarded Dumbest Government in the World award beating out Iran and N. Korea and others like it. (National Post arts section - nationalpost.com). I sent a Letter to the Ed congratulating the Libs on finally getting the recognition they deserve.
Posted by: Mrs Thatcher at July 23, 2005 10:36 AMI thought the horse looked like Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
Posted by: ward at July 23, 2005 10:39 AMWow check the dreadlocks on that nag....waddaya know a rasta pony...let him loose in the Fed's Ganja patch.
Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at July 23, 2005 10:41 AMOr Robert Plant with a really bad dye job
Posted by: Mrs Thatcher at July 23, 2005 10:42 AMI need at least one.
Posted by: Polly at July 23, 2005 1:07 PMThat is really weird stuff.
See the two horses fighting each other... for her effections !!!???
Definetily early Jon Bon Jovi .
Posted by: richfisher at July 23, 2005 3:34 PMThe name of the breed is "Cher."
Posted by: Meatball at July 23, 2005 10:42 PMBeautiful horses. Although I must admit that the head shot of the Friesian you have put me in mind of "Tiny Tim" (tiptoe thru the tulips dude...)They have the exact same "do". hehe
Meatball, you see Cher in the horsie's visage. I do, too, plus Alanis Morrissette...
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at July 24, 2005 10:42 AMFirst Impression --- Cher!!! Impressive breading though.
Got another one... Christina A... damn, forgot the spelling of her name, with black hair.
Christina, however, is a little cuter, in my opinion, but that's comparing people and horsies...
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at July 24, 2005 4:47 PMNot to mention Howard Stern...
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at July 24, 2005 4:48 PMYou people are slandering my horses.
Posted by: Kate at July 24, 2005 8:24 PMChristina Aquilara?
Posted by: Iron Lady at July 24, 2005 8:25 PMSorry Kate. No offense intended towards the beautiful animals. I personally love horses, too. Once tried to ride a friend's horse, but I had absolutely no idea how to issue commands, so the old mare simply decided I was an imbecile tenderfoot and returned me to where we started. Smart animal!
And, Iron Lady, nope, that's the wrong sp., I'm afraid. Sounds like the mermaid version of X-Tina.
Myself, X-Tina I find hot, but I just really love the SheDaisy girls! And Terri Clark, Shania, Shakira... I could go on forever, but I'm sure you don't need to hear this! Perhaps this stuff shld. be for me and Tony Guitar to discuss!
Posted by: Stephen McAllister at July 24, 2005 9:21 PMAccording to a reliable source, that breed is called the Friesen.
Posted by: Ed Minchau at July 25, 2005 10:36 AMGAAAAH! It's the Kenny G of HORSES! AAAAAAAGH!
Posted by: Sailor Republica at July 27, 2005 1:35 AMKate, these are not your horses!!! They are mine. I would appreciate that you not distribute my copyrighted photos!
