Via several callers to John Gormley LIve today, the level of violence by Indian gangs in Saskatoon is escalating - and it's being directed towards whites at random, often as part of gang initiations. The latest attack occured in front of Mac's store on Canada Day, sending at least one young teenager to hospital, and injuring 10 to 15 others.
One parent described arriving on the scene to overhear "this is what you get for celebrating the day you stole our land". Another caller described an separate incident in which members of the Indian Posse pulled two of his co-workers out of a truck and knifed them.
Though Gormley tried hard to redirect comments from the racial angle to the more PC "disaffected youth" euphanism, it didn't work very well - the parents whose children have been the targets of the attacks weren't playing that game. As one remarked - if there were large gangs of white teenagers swarming Indian kids at a First Nations event to earn their gang colours, it would be national news.
Hard not to argue.
update - Darcy has more.

typical of the media to whitewash the crime. i'm tired of it too. a hate crime is a hate crime.
Posted by: mlah at July 8, 2005 12:12 AMA gang is a gang is a gang. They are all very dangerous. When the hate crime element creeps in it becomes insidious. This is just another form of homegrown terrorism though. And most Canadians are not able to defend themselves because of the Gun Law. Another reason to talk quietly and carry a big stick these days. This will not make the MSM.

So true.
Reminds me of a King of the Hill episode where Hank says, "What the hell kind of country do I live in when I can only hate a man if he's white?"
You can safely hate Anglos in Canada and not find yourself charged with a hate crime.
It's multicultural tolerance run amok.
Posted by: mark at July 8, 2005 6:57 AMCriminals are criminals, regardless of race, color, or social/political affiliation. When will our legislators, politicians, courts, etc decide to get this trash off of the streets and into prison where it belongs? No more suspended sentences, no more sentencing circles. Prison! It's what they deserve.
Posted by: Joe Canuck at July 8, 2005 11:42 AMJoe Canuck says, This trash should be off our streets and in prison where it belongs.
Paul Martin says, hey wait a mnute, I'm not going to pay this trash's room and board for six months, I need that dough for more fun.. er.. important things.
And, that is why walking down the street in many small towns is a personal risk. 73s TG
Posted by: TonyGuitar at July 8, 2005 12:01 PMIt's a personal risk in large cities too. There are many places in Vancouver where I would not walk in the evening anymore, or at any time of day. I used to enjoy those places. I don't go there anymore. The reason? Just try to defend yourself and find out how many problems you have. The victims are more in danger of being charged with "using undue force" than are the perpetrators.
Posted by: John Crittenden at July 8, 2005 12:14 PMYou know what's funny? No matter how much the media whitewashes it, people still know. We took a bit of a hit on the price of our home when we sold because the Enoch Nation is building a new casino nearby.
However, I didn't take the same hit that Ray did when he sold his home in Mill Woods in Edmonton. It was a beautiful, well-cared for home that would have sold for $65,000 more in any other part of Edmonton. Just not the part where East Indian gangs like to shoot the $#@% out of each other.
And, yes, I'm a *racist* for pointing this out.

Kate,
This isn't just a Sask. problem, a few years back my cousin and his friends. The guys who did it got sentences of about 3 years.

More than 150 charges laid against suspects in brutal attack on 'innocent kids'
The brutal beating and stabbing of five white teenagers by six adult natives this weekend has resulted in the laying of more than 150 charges.
The attack on the teens lasted a full two hours and has prompted the lead investigator in the case to describe it as the "most horrific incident" he has ever seen in 23 years of police work.
"I have seen murders ... multiple murders and crime scenes," said Det. Bill Clark. "This was vicious, especially the fact you have five innocent kids. And they are just kids, they are only 18 years old."
One of the youths, who is still in the hospital, was stabbed 10 times in his upper body. One stab wound came within a whisker of his heart.
Another teen had his lung punctured when he was stabbed in the chest.
A third had his face split open with a beer bottle, and 19 stitches were needed to close the wound.
Police have issued Canada-wide warrants for six suspects who face 26 charges each, including attempted murder, forcible confinement, aggravated assault, robbery, uttering death threats and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
One of the suspects turned himself into police Tuesday afternoon.
The suspects are allegedly members or associates of the Alberta Warriors, said Clark.
Police are still investigating the incident, including the roles of the two teenage girls who lured the five youths to the basement suite of a duplex at 12048 50th St., where they were nearly killed.
One of the girls was questioned Tuesday, but has not been charged.
Clark said there were six teens invited to the house party, but one of them decided to go home instead. "I guess his Spidey senses were tingling," he said.
The group of friends had been at a nightclub Saturday and had stopped at a convenience store to get something to eat and cigarettes when they were approached by the two girls. They struck up a conversation and were invited to a house party several blocks away.
The youths were directed down to the basement once they reached the duplex. As soon as they got downstairs, they saw the room was full of adult native males.
Richard, who asked his last name not be used to protect his family, said his nephew, the teen with a punctured lung, told him "the walls were lined with these men. Right away, they knew they were in the wrong place."
The teens turned to leave and were headed back upstairs when they were suddenly attacked, said Clark.
"They were jumped on and all hell broke loose. These young fellows feared for their lives right from the start, and justly so."
Police said the teenagers were forced to strip. They were then thrown into a dark bathroom where the only means of escape, a window, had been sealed off from the outside.
The assailants took turns over the next two hours attacking the teens. They beat them with beer bottles, kicked them and stabbed them as they told them they were all going to die. The attackers turned up the music to drown out the victims' screams.
"They told them they were going to kill them because they had seen their place, they had seen their faces and they had to die," said Richard. "The only thing that saved my nephew was he pretended to be knocked out when he was hit over the head with a beer bottle."
The attack was especially vicious near the end as their attackers fell on them with knives.
"In the small room where they were stabbed, there were hunks of meat," said Clark.
Two of the youths, including Richard's nephew, managed to escape after their attackers left, and summoned help.
Police said the motive appears to be robbery. The suspects stole the teens' identification, bank cards and access codes.
"But for the little money they took out of their pockets, it was an absolute travesty the viciousness of the attack," the detective said.
Janice, who is also related to the youth with the punctured lung, said the youths are absolutely traumatized by their ordeal, and are fearful of reprisals. "Not even animals do this to their prey. They do not torture their prey. These guys are nothing but cowards."
Wanted in connection with the crime are Kenneth "Bubbles" Paul, 25, Michael James "War Eagle" Redbreast, 31, Cecil Tompkins, 22, Flarry "Junior" Tompkins, 18, Glenn Justin "Occo" Ironchild, 22.
Patrick Ashley Keewatin, 21, turned himself into police and is in custody.

Police say Saturday morning's brutal attack on five white teenagers alleged to have been committed by members of a native street gang was not racially motivated, but a random, isolated incident.
"It probably wouldn't have mattered who showed up that night at the 7-Eleven," said Dean Parthenis, police spokesman.
"They were just looking for somebody to go for the bait. These poor guys were just ambushed, were blindsided. They had no idea this party was a beating and robbing scenario."
Police received 10 tips Tuesday night. And on Wednesday a second suspect, Glenn Justin Ironchild, 22, turned himself in at the north division station about 8 p.m.
Another man, 21-year-old Patrick Ashley Keewatin, turned himself into police Tuesday.
Det. Bill Clark, the leading investigator, said there were up to nine men and four women in the room when the teenagers were attacked.
While the two girls who allegedly lured the teens to the duplex at 50th Street and 118th Avenue haven't been charged, police are not ruling out the possibility, Parthenis said.
The girls approached the five victims at a convenience store Saturday morning and invited them to a house party several blocks away.
When the youths were directed down to the basement of the house, they were suddenly attacked by a roomful of men.
The teenagers were forced to strip and were thrown into a dark bathroom where they were beaten with beer bottles, slashed, kicked and stabbed over a two-hour period. The suspects stole the teens' identification, bank cards and access codes.
Two of the youths escaped and summoned help after their attackers left.
Two victims are still in hospital in stable condition after being stabbed in the chest. The others are recovering at home.
Canada-wide arrest warrants are still out for Kenneth "Bubbles" Paul, 25, Michael James "War Eagle" Redbreast, 31, Cecil Tompkins, 22, and Flarry "Junior" Tompkins, 18.
They, and the two men already in custody, face more than 150 charges, including attempted murder, forcible confinement, aggravated assault, robbery, uttering death threats and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
