Stripes? I thought Candy stole every scene he was in, frankly.
Yep. Now there was a MAN, am I right?

The whole movie was fantastic, and we have director Ivan Reitman (B.Mus, McMaster U.) to thank for that.
Posted by: Matt at June 13, 2005 1:36 PMI wasn't that impressed with Stripes. I thought Candy was better in Canadian Bacon (the hockey game scene was great, as was their "attack" on Canada) but his best acting was probably Uncle Buck.

Posted by: Shabbadoo at June 13, 2005 1:45 PMI was lucky enough to shake his hand (and get a picture!!) when he was filming Cool Running at Olympic Park and he took the time to visit the childrens' hospital in Calgary,
Posted by: kelly at June 13, 2005 1:51 PMI also believe John Candy's "Mayor Tommy Shanks" skits were the inspiration for PM Paul Martins address to the nation! Minus the crackling fire and the stuffed dog of course!
Posted by: flurd at June 13, 2005 2:08 PMJust watching JC get the Commies to sing the Washington State University fight song in Volunteers makes him a hero in my book.
Posted by: Jeff in Pullman, WA at June 13, 2005 2:11 PMYou're getting there...LOL Thanks for subbing for Kate!! You've been fun.
Posted by: sickofdalibs at June 13, 2005 3:10 PMYea, I loved John Candy, and a cold Molson......
HEY, WAIT A MINUTE!
You're not fooling me Goldstein, I know you really HATE Canada and you're not fooling me with this empty praise.

Um, no, it wasn't. The first two-thirds of it were. The last part, once they've graduated and are in Europe, is so awful it should be permanently expunged from the memory of all humanity.

Oh, that totally grossed me out - which might be why I don't care for the movie (tho I still remember pathetic Candy at the door fondly).
And back to Stripes - yep, good summary. Once they got out of training the movie flushed itself.
Posted by: Jay at June 13, 2005 6:59 PMI think you mean Candy stole the buffet in every scene.
Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at June 13, 2005 7:24 PMEugene Levy is sooo under rated.
Candy and Levy played security guards in _____?
It wasnt a well known comedy, but a hoot.
Johnny LaRue and his Gerbils.

Cool Runnings was one of his best.
Posted by: Ed Minchau at June 14, 2005 1:17 AMJC was great, but Bill Murray had the best lines:
"Aaaaarmy training, sir"
"...and then depression set in" (which should be Canada's national motto)
