It is the morning of June 2, 2005 and among the top international news items of the day is the 5 week old story of a chick in Georgia who didn't show up for her wedding *.

Yup. And while Canada is falling apart both CBC and CTV have as their top story the release from prison of a bitch who killed two young women. What can I say. I just feel like swearing and swearing and swearing...

C'mon Kate, give us his epilogue.

Should this be the headline?

If so, there needs to be big time damage control at the Conservative Party.

If it is true that the tapes were edited, even slightly, then Grewal and his wife should be fired immediately, and maybe even Stephen should step down.

The Conservatives whole point in attacking the government is the government's dishonesty (and corruptness), which is apparent. This story, if true, will prove those voters who say "All parties are the same" right.

I am sure Paul Weels was right on top of that one

Kate:

I think this post answers your own question from your previous post regarding Homolka. Celebrity, celebrity, celebrity. What makes the runaway bride famous? Was Laci Peterson the only wife killed by her husband that year?, was JonBenet Ramsey the only child kidnapped and killed?

Shows like Entertainment tonight have become our "news" broadcasts. Their ratings success are some of the reasons we get Who's hot & Who's not from you know who. It contributes to debates being scored like a prize fight, to elections being fought in 30 sec. or less soundbytes. Journalists and the consuming public have become lazy in what constitutes news and when push comes to shove we select milquetoast 99.9% of the time (with apologies to UD for using his phrase).

On that fateful Thursday, the discussion around the lunch table was American Idol. So as much as we scream about MSM and their bias, I think it is as much laziness than any inherent biases.

Time to go back to humming Brad Paisley now, for some reason I can't get his Celebrity songout of my head.

"If it is true that the tapes were edited, even slightly, then Grewal and his wife should be fired immediately, and maybe even Stephen should step down."

You mean those tapes that have reveal no incriminating behavior by the Liberals, that the RCMP doesn't feel are worth investigating?

Posted by: Kate at June 2, 2005 2:02 PM

Apologies to UD in any way shape or form are out of line. He needs to be fired. NO apologies.
So does Tim Murphy. There is one thing that comes across loud and clear: UD is spinning about as fast as a top can spin. He is scared to death and will say whatever Scott Reid has come up with for him to say.
UD and Murphy should have had their asses handed to them YESTERDAY.
The tapes haven't been 'altered' ... that's what the LIEberals do.
There is enough incriminating evidence on those tapes ; the parts we HAVE been able to read and hear to sink the entire liberal party. AT the least Murphy and UD MUST go. PM should be next in line for the boot.
Let them sell this somewhere else... In South America , say.
I want the Conservatives to hammer this as hard as they can hammer it. If it isn't the last nail in the coffin of this sorry excuse for a government it ought to be.

NO wonder Desmarais has had a stroke. Can you imagine?- First Strong steps down at the UN and now this 'quagmire' in Canada!- It's enough for a power manipulator to chuck his cookies. All that careful planning and manipulation of political process going down the drain with ole Paulie.

Gee Kate,
I thought CBC's headline from yesterdays website was a more worthy Twilight Zone story.

I expect more amazing but true stories from MSM, on the days that the Librano Bakery doesn't do deliveries.

Also, should we collect a Top 100 list of "Why Stephen Harper should step down!"?

May I lead off?

1. He combs his hair funny!

Posted by: Cal at June 2, 2005 2:48 PM

2. He interferes with Liberal business.

Posted by: EBDresen at June 2, 2005 2:59 PM

3. He has no confidence in the Natural Governing Party.

The RCMP's not on this, but Coyne is. His column today, posted now at his website, is the high-water mark of mainstream coverage. All you other media members put your heads down and get behind him, he's clearing a path to the door.

Go man go.

Posted by: EBDresen at June 2, 2005 3:07 PM

Johnny_eh, assuming the original tapes have been provided to the RCMP (which I believe is the case) I'm quite sure their specialists will be able to figure out whether or not it's been doctored. I've seen other articles that say the translations are accurate (with minor glitches) and the tapes seem authentic.

I guess we'll find out if the RCMP ever figures out whether or not they are "reviewing" or "investigating".

Posted by: Candace at June 2, 2005 3:32 PM

Sympathetic liberal media... nothing more, nothing less... It's up to us, well actually you Kate (because I prefer to beat on the moonbats) to expose what's really going on...

Posted by: Richard Evans at June 2, 2005 4:04 PM

Seriously: would You give the original copy of a tape that implicates the Liberanoes to the RCMP?
"While our investigations are ongoing, we cannot release any information until at least after the next election- if not the one after that," Duh!

I really thought the tabloid angle of the B.S betrayal was enough to get some friendly U.S coverage. Apparently people in the U.S care as much about Canadian politics as people in ontario do.

Posted by: Dustin Bissell at June 2, 2005 8:20 PM

I'm surprised that rated no coverage as well. Only thing I can think of is the media's attitude is "Canada is a victory - Canada is and always will be liberal, no point wasting time on them when we could be attacking Bush".
