Posted by: darcey at November 24, 2004 10:33 PMJeez, that's incredible. Can we just sell California to the French please?
Posted by: Jager at November 25, 2004 12:48 AMOne of the absurdities in respect to the California school's policy on "God" being spoken of in the Declaration of Independence is the fact that it is not a religious reference.
The Declaration makes an ontological assertion that is philosophical in nature and not religious. The "Creator" as the bestower of all unalienable Rights has no designated particulars beyond characterization as a "Creator." No other attributes are enumerated.
The Creator is not said to be the "Son" of anything, the Creator is not part of a "Creator-Destroyer-Preserver" of anything, virtually the only designation is a Creative Source from which unalienable Rights flow.
Fundamentally most of George Bush's assertions relative to the advance of Liberty around the world have the Declaration's view of "Creator" as the background for their premise. Bush is simply speaking as an exponent of the "philosophy of America," and frankly we would not be well served by a President who did not believe in the principal orientation of our country.
