I also like how they all refer to it as Los Ang’ less. My Great grandmother, Grandmother, and Grand Aunt all pronounced it with the hard g … Los AnGG less.

    My own Swedish Great Grandparents moved from Erie, PA just after their youngest daughter (my Grandmother) graduated HS at age 18. Bundled she and her older sister into their new Model T and drove cross country to their new home in San Diego. The year was 1919. The trip took 3 months, although they stopped a few places along the way … taking side trips. Most of the trip was spent pushing their car out of the mud, and making repairs. But when they crossed the vast Southwest … it was still “Indian country” … and my grandmothers diary account of the Indians they encountered would be considered highly “racist” and native-phobic by today’s standards. Me? I read it in the proper 1919 context, and find the attitudes fascinating. My family never resided in Los AnG’ less … but moved directly from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area (too bad, I’d have probably preferred San Diego) . My Great Aunt married well and had a mansion in swanky Brentwood (OJ’s Brentwood … long before a black man was allowed to live there).

It was the go-to treatment in the Canadian Army for the Spanish Flu during WWI as I’ve observed in hundreds of WWI medical files. It was settled science for over 100 years until it was important that there be no treatment for Covid thus allowing Pfizer to make $billions from an experimental treatment that didn’t work at all.

        I’ve used “follow the money” as my go-to explanation for many puzzling issues and actions over the years…it has never failed me.

    2. Last year I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I refused to take the 1st prescription as I read the information pamphlet that came with it and it indicated that it was to be used as a last resort for rheumatoid (this was also a cancer drug so must be pretty potent). Next appointment I asked for something that was not a last resort (can we start at the beginning rather than the end?) and was (reluctantly) prescribed hydroxychloroquine. Works like a charm, no side effects and cheap!! I have to wonder if they would have been permitted to prescribe it during the C19 insanity??
