Take out the Trash Day – Trans Mountain Expansion edition

So, if you didn’t see this news come out on Friday, because all horrible news is released on Friday, the Trans Mountain Pipeline just went up something like 44 per cent in cost. That’ll be paid for by us, by the way. The cost is now $30.9 billion. But wait! In 2013, Kinder Morgan figured they could build it for $6.8 billion. The current cost is only 4.5x what Kinder Morgan had planned.

Is it any wonder why ExxonMobil is walking away from longstanding, but never used offshore oil and gas leases off the BC coast? Any guesses why a company would walk away from a major oil and gas project in BC?

By the way, this clip from the first season of The West Wing is the absolute best nugget of political knowledge you can sum up in one minute (the first minute of this clip). Fridays are “Take out the Trash Day.”

A similar thing happened the Friday of the Family Day long weekend, when the feds released their just transition plan. Watch for upcoming stories on that.

  1. So from zero taxpayer dollars to 31billion, approximately $1000 per Canadian, for the same thing.
Some very good business sense there by the government.

  2. This is what happens when everybody and their brother is given a piece of the action.. Best to just walk away..

  3. Whatever the Trudeau government touches turns to shyte. And,,,and…Trudeau is going to address climate change? With net zero emissions? Hahahahahahahahahhahahahah.

He knows damned well that Net Zero is complete and utter bullshit..its all about destroying The WESTERN Hemisphere and the “Carbon” that inhabits it…… meaning US – every WHITE anglo saxon person.

Trudeau is a 2 bit marionette with the intelect of a licked dry dog bowl dancing to the tune of the NAZI’s in the WEF.

In other words a filthy POS.

      1. Steakman, you wrote, “Trudeau is a 2 bit marionette with the intelect of a licked dry dog bowl.” Good comment, but you misspelled “bowel”.

  4. The long standing BC moratorium on offshore oil and gas exploration is a sacred trust that transcends the NDP-Liberal-green progressive hegemony along with the uranium exploration moratorium. BC is now experiencing the lowest per capita income of all bordering jurisdictions. They have racialized the forest industry (no timber cutting approvals for anyone not partnered up with Indians or a shell company in their names) and its largest former thriving companies shutting downs mills while expanding everywhere but BC but mostly in the US where forests are privately owned. Investment bankers say it’s non-investable.

  5. I am told by someone fairly senior on the TMX job that the Trudeau and his crooked feds are using TMX as a giant pork barrel for their political cronies with the intention of blaming the resulting financial catastrophe on private enterprise, capitalism and Big Evil Oil.

  6. And it’s no where near being done by the latest scheduled time. That is what I was told who has been working on it for years as of last summer.

    1. I’m hearing the same. Yet all the oil companies are now talking about how it will be in service this year. HA.

  7. Any word on whether the BC government bothered to reimburse their costs in helping out during the heavy rains and flooding in mid-November. 2021? The TCP crews – and heavy gear – moved from building a pipeline to helping restore roadways and getting aid to isolated communities. Their work was never properly acknowledged; and proper public thanks were never given.

      Spot on Comment. 1000%
Ive got friends working TMX, and they all were involved in helping revive that corridor…zero thanx along with a fiscal slap in the face.

  8. Now I’m waiting for all the Global Warmists to publish articles about how much more expensive Fossil Fuel development is compared to the magical, mystical, “renewable” sources of intermittent energy. Ohhhhhhhh mommmmaaaaa

  9. As natural gas resources are locked in western Canada, Pres Biden is about to open up federal lands in Alaska for nat gas export to Asian markets. Our PM Justin sees no viable economic reason for nat gas export from Canada to Europe or Aisa.

  10. Brian not sure why I’m shocked but I’m saddened for my grandchildren –Kinder Morgan – 6.8 billion to now 30.9 billion!!!! The eco facists are destroying Canada! And we the tax payers are paying! No wonder the LEFT side of the political spectrum have caused most of world’s conflicts!
