What more can Saskatchewan do to keep the lights on?

Saskatchewan power production on Jan. 15. SaskPower

Premier Scott Moe said on Monday that federal electricity regulations will soon mean that even with carbon capture, neither coal (in 2030) or natural gas (in 2035) will be allowed.

On Sunday, 42% of our power came from natural gas, and 41% came from coal. Another 12% came from hydro.

1% came from wind

Ottawa, we have a problem.

    1. Everyone is forgetting, it is not THEIR problem so therefore it is not A problem.

I don’t know what Moe is thinking, perhaps he figures he’ll get re-elected no matter what.
But if anyone doubts what our princess is thinking then I have to ask, where you have been for the past many years.

    2. Both SK and Alberta need to refuse outright. If Trudeau persists, shut off line 5 to Ontario. Shut down all rail and road traffic crossing both Provinces from eastern Canada to the west coast.
      Tell Trudeau to ESAD.
Not much Trudeau if we do. And don’t suggest the CF because Alberta and SK rednecks outnumber them.
Time for open rebellion. And full push back. Forget going to Ottawa. Blockade Canada.

  1. But my charging electric vehicle…I guess dead on the road will be the new normal for them too.
I imagine trying to work at night would consume even more electricity trying to keep lights on while your trying to charge your vehicle in the daylight hours.

  2. They really are trying to reduce a once first world province and country to barely third world. Life and the quality of it is nothing without progress, advancement, achievement, competition, etc. Abundant and reliable energy (including that which is naturally available below our surface) is a key to quality of life.

They’re trying to turn us into Ukraine, Zimbabwe, Pakistan…we need to wake the hell up people.

  3. Moe isn’t very bright and he’s a coward. Guess what he’ll do? Nothing…..
The good thing is a growing number of Sask residents aren’t very bright either so in a few years we’ll just be sitting here in the dark, freezing.
Well I won’t be, I’ve got 8 years before I can flee, it’s a race against the clock but the math works out currently.

      1. Yeah you could be right. We’ve pigeon holed ourselves financially here that in order to retire early we need to stay for another 8 years.
It’s going to get scary here as we approach the end of this decade.

    1. Why wait eight years to leave? If you don’t want to be here amongst the not so bright people then F. Off tomorrow would be soon enough

  4. Maybe they should consult Chrystia?

I understand she may know through her social network the BTU content of the average human body when incinerated.

    1. My thoughts exactly. And if Ottawa thinks the truckers horn honking is as bad as it can get … they best get their affairs in order …

      1. It will be fine. There not be possible to get trucks with horns to ottawa without fossil fuel, and it’s too far for the rabble to walk.

  5. NONE of the Liberals 2030 deadline crap is going to actually happen…..this is just more of Trudeau virtue signalling. It is totally unrealistic in Canada.

    1. It will happen unless there is active resistance a the citizen level, provincial governments have proven themselves to spineless to do it. The federal government is now the enemy of the people, it must be actively resisted in every form. They (globalists) want the western world impoverished, full stop.

They are playing for all the marbles.

      1. Peter we are all dead without coal, oil and gas. That includes all the idiots who think we won’t be.

  6. Wow what a surprise, so the feds have set unrealistic, unachievable goals. So to what number is this of virtue signalling beyond reality.

I never thought the west would have the stones to create autonomy away from Ottawa and this will be the only way it will happen, so it is my sincere hope that we continue the dysfunction and I’m willing to suffer a bit to get there. Let the division widen !

  7. “Ottawa, we have a problem.”

    “Your problem!” ( – Ottawa)
    ————————————————————-
” – MY virtue-signalling is FAR more important than YOUR petty quibbling!” ( – a certain unnamed prime minister)

  8. Trudeau is playing the climate change game to appeal to NDP voters, primarily in Alberta.

Smith needs to win this year’s election.

Then, in concert with Saskatchewan, bring in a Climate UN Tariff of $50 barrel on all hydrocarbon leaving Alberta/Saskatchewan. Escalating by $10/barrel every time Trudeau takes a plane flight.

How could Trudeau, Quebec, and Ontario object?

  9. Your missing the point. The goal is not de-carbonization, the goal is de-population. The intermediate goal is about 500 million people living a Medieval lifestyle. Ultimately, it is a few million people living as paleolithic hunter-gatherers.

  10. Seems we no longer have need of provincial governments. If they just implement whatever spews from the mouth of groper mcblackface, why have the extra expense of these insignificant premiers.

  11. “Ultimately, it is a few million people living as paleolithic hunter-gatherers”

    – while the global elite live in unimaginable luxury and decadence, several thousand feet overhead (i.e., beyond rifle-range), and micromanage EVERYTHING on the ground below. Fixed it for ya!

    P.S., “Notwithstanding”…

    1. Y.Knott – I lean more to the Hunger Games model – Where decadence reins supreme ,there is no telling who is what and the weirdest fashion is the norm. Where the serfs toil , hunting / gathering will be a crime. They will need to keep enough serfs alive to supply their privileged lifestyle. Will they follow the Mayan dictate ,where a serfs life ends at 52? Breeding farms to restock the serfs? Sure ,we know the great reset is not a conspiracy theory , but what are they really planning? I never thought the Hunger Games was a movie, but more of an outline or wish list.

  12. Somebody fill me in on just what is the ‘other’ form of power, running at 3% /109 MW of total generation?
Wind and solar which comprises barely 24 MW of questionably reliable electrons is less than one quarter of the total output of this so called ‘other’.

Thanx in advance … its early here in BC and I haven’t had my first cuppa yet!

    1. From their website: NRGreen Kerrobert Heat Recovery Facility
      NRGreen Loreburn Heat Recovery Facility
      NRGreen Estlin Heat Recovery Facility
      NRGreen Alameda Heat Recovery Facility
      Manitoba Hydro
      Small Independent Power Producers
Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) Bioenergy Centre
*Other includes power that the facilities use themselves and have lost when generating.

  13. What will they do when we keep using carbon?
    Send in the troops?
Cut off the Federal “support” payments?
    Take away our passports?
They are breaking the system. They need to enforce that breakage against the will of realists.

  14. Western premiers in the past have sought “mandates” from the people to fight Ottawa. They would win the office and then fold.
I think we can expect the same unless a grassroots, independence seeking principled movement rises up seeking autonomy.

“Until they think we might get out ( of this CON-federation) they will not do anything to keep us in.”

  15. If absolute separation of AB/Sask isn’t on the table, the federal gov’t is able to decide who are the winners (Quebec) and who are the losers (AB/Sask) without any pushback. There isn’t anything in our arsenal to foil the fed’s decrees. We are serfs.

All the ways AB/Sask. can push back against the federal agenda, are stopped (set aside) by the SCOC, they’ll always decide in the federal gov’t favor, and you’ll not do a damn thing about it.

    Had enough yet?

I recall some folks shock here, when Lance went public with his statement that separation via referendum is the way forward.
Some others had been whispering it for some time. There’s rarely a day now when separation isn’t mentioned in the comments, as it’s all we’ve got left.

  16. We’ll, looking at the graph-you can see wind and solar are a damn expensive joke.
If you want to freeze your arse off, just keep doing what we’re doing.

Let’s Stop voting for idiots pushing this crap!
They are trying to kill us.

  17. “ “The forest kept shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe.
For the axe was clever and convinced them that since his handle was wood, he was one of them.”

This has been the MO of western Canadian political leaders of all parties for decades.
Knowing full well the inequities of CON-federation they succumb to the trappings of office and soon see their pensions as the goal.
Pray statesmen step forward like the founding fathers of USA, putting their self interests aside and lead us out of this joke…that is CON-federation.
    And soon.

  18. “ Ottawa, we have a problem.” Let me correct that for you, “ We have a problem, Ottawa”. Your welcome.

  19. Every province needs to pass a Sovereignty Act and clearly draw the lines of responsibility and authority between federal and provincial govts. Idiots like Andrew Coyne will screech about the Charter blah blah blah ( as he did for Danielle Smith’s bill ) but it’s obvious the provinces have to do something from an insane, ideologically driven federal govt who are completely unmoored from reality.
