Love to read that article, but I’m fed up with paywalls and the like.
Instead of buying presents for those who don’t need anything, Our family plan for Christmas is to donate CASH to the food Bank. Cash buys 4 times the amount of food as compared to simply a food donation.

    1. I happened to catch that when it aired, Rt41Rebel, and it was a hoot!

Canada managed to ban a gun of which only one example exists in the entire World, a ‘weapon of mass destruction’, and the sole example of that gun isn’t even in Canada.

Canadians can rest assured that their elites, Dunning-Kruger poster children that they may be, are quite thorough if nothing else.

Hit Rt41Rebel’s link for a good laugh at our Moral and Intellectual Superiors.

    2. That link is making its way around Twitter now. Trudeau is the Butt Master, or maybe the Butt of jokes Master.

“The Holy Grail Quest for President Trump’s Tax Returns Ends with the World’s Loudest Sad Trombone
    December 22, 2022 | Sundance | 131 Comments
For seven years the media have walked the American people through a journey to publicize President Donald J Trump’s tax returns, using phrases like “bigger than Watergate.” Promising, almost daily, the results of their quest would be “the beginning of the end” of Trump.”

“The world’s most anticipated and promoted financial disclosure in the history of the modern universe, was a complete nothingburger.”

“Yes, Donald Trump is the first President of the United States who lost money as an outcome of his political ascendency because he never sold his office to any individual, corporation, multinational or financial interest. President Donald J Trump worked for the American people, using policies that were designed to benefit the American people, from within an office that was created to benefit the American people.

For the media, the world’s largest sad trombone.”

  3. An articulate SDAer posted a remark about boycotting the Salvtion Army this Christmas, over some woke behavior I think by one S.A. branch somewhere, I think, in the U.S. I still kick in $25 monthly to the Maritimes charity branch, since the church out here does do good, non-woke work.

But here is a good article explaining that charity donors ought to stop giving to cultural and university charities:

    1. I agree with you re the Salvation Army. They do a great deal of good work, and administrative overhead is relatively low. They run homeless shelters and are often one of the first groups to respond when a natural disaster hits.

      1. I’ve never been to Hooterville, but I have been to Climax. Did I miss anything?

Ba dum tss. Be here all week folks. Try the meatloaf & don’t forget to tip your server…

    1. You mean the Saskatchewan where ALL the MPs are Conservatives and the MLAs are nearly all conservatives If this is Hooterville I’ll take it

  4. Interesting article from CNBC news. Says that the U.S. (and Canada?) could experience what Great Britan saw a month or so ago. The U.S. and Canada will be issuing new federal bonds, but our banks and other money establishments may refuse to buy them:
    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/23/bond-yields-to-climb-for-the-wrong-reasons-next-year-strategist-says.html

The article says banks may refuse to buy newly-issued bonds because:
    1. they are buying older government bonds being sold by central banks as part of the latters’ quantitative tightening programs:
    2. banks have been instructed to increase their cash on hand to prevent bank runs.

So if governments can’t sell their bonds, interest rates rise by more than expected. Then the panic-recession is on. This is what happened in Britain two months ago.

    1. James Burke had an excellent series or 2 on how things work in the modern world.
      Called ‘ Connections ‘ and ‘ Connections 2 ‘.
The first one aired in the late 70’s and starts off with the reason why the Great power outage of the Eastern seaboard happened in the 1960’s , taking us on a wild ride of numerous inventions through the ages, all connected to one another, that lead to the reason of the outage.
      Most excellent series.

  5. The annual inflation rate in Canada is running at a rate of about 7%. Is your salary or pension increasing at that rate? If you are working in, or retired from, the private sector, the answer is almost certainly No. If you are retired on a government pension, the answer is probably yes since many government pension plan payments are indexed to inflation.

What other groups in Canada have been granted special privileges by government laws, regulations or contracts that allow them to live better than those not similarly favoured? Dairy farmers are definitely one such group. All federal political parties support their place of special privilege, despite that privilege having been repeatedly shown to impose significant harm on the poor and disadvantaged.

So you might ask: how has inflation been affecting dairy farmers? Would you be surprised to know that they are doing exceptionally well (You wouldn’t be if you realized that dairy prices are set by regulation and are regularly increased so that dairy farmers always make a lot of money) ?

“Total cash receipts from milk and cream sold off farms amounted to $724.7 million in October, up 15.6% year over year.”

… According to court documents, Nader Pourhassan, 59, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Kazem Kazempour, 69, of Potomac, Maryland, allegedly engaged in a conspiracy to defraud investors through false and misleading representations and material omissions relating to CytoDyn’s development of leronlimab, a monoclonal antibody investigational drug also known as PRO 140, as a potential treatment for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Pourhassan and Kazempour allegedly deceived investors about the timeline and status of CytoDyn’s regulatory submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to artificially inflate and maintain the price of CytoDyn’s stock and attract new investors, and for their personal benefit, including by selling their personal shares of CytoDyn stock.

Pourhassan was CytoDyn’s president and CEO at the time of the alleged fraud. Kazempour is the co-founder, president, and CEO of Amarex Clinical Research LLC (Amarex), a private company with offices in Germantown, Maryland, that managed CytoDyn’s clinical trials, and was CytoDyn’s regulatory agent in interactions with the FDA. Kazempour also served on CytoDyn’s Disclosure Committee, which was responsible for reviewing and approving CytoDyn’s periodic filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission…
