For Peat’s Sake!

By now it should be apparent that a “green” future is not going to be high tech at all, but rather a reversion to a pre-industrial existence. I’m sure the peasants will rejoice at spending hours each week digging in a swamp.

Earlier this year the government introduced curbs to peat cutting to protect Ireland’s bogs – which are important carbon sinks and sources of biodiversity – but Europe’s energy crisis has boosted what is supposed to be an anachronism. It costs approximately €500 to heat a household with peat for a year versus several thousand euros for more climate-friendly sources of energy.

Provided, of course, that the green lobby will even allow homeowners to stave off freezing to death:

The European Commission has threatened to impose sanctions on Ireland unless it curbs peat cutting in special areas of conservation.

    1. I’m thinking of a new San Francisco high tech start up. The app will connect free range human feces on the streets with the most energy needy of the community. We will deliver the feces to burn in small iron pots to heat their $3,000/mo. Hotel Rooms.

And my company will provide hemp shoes for the children of San Francisco with every kilo of feces delivered. Because we … care.

    2. Cow dung is used for heating, cooking and building materials in countries such as India.

If they cut off the peat supplies for making Scotch Whisky, however, there may be an uprising!

      1. Zon, cow dung, wood, sticks, anything that will burn is used in India, Africa, South America and anywhere else that doesn’t have a reliable energy infrastructure (which could also include the UK and Europe shortly).

And burning that stuff causes circa 3.8 millions deaths each year, deaths they then lump together with ‘deaths caused by fossil fuels’.

  1. What a great place for Gang Green, buried in the Peat.
We could argue that the Irish are “preserving Gang Green for future study.”
If we perform all the correct rituals, future archeologists will be ecstatic.

Of course they want the Irish to stop warming their homes..Heat,comfort and wealth, those are only for the special ones…
So sayth the Cult of Calamitous Climate.
“Do as we say, never do as we do”.

  2. Obviously and absurdly wrong. China and India (among many others) have no intention of following anything like this kind of green BS. And should China take over much of where the western world is today, the Green radicals will be the first ones fed into the woodchipper.

  3. Peat is a traditional fuel source.

Ergo suppression of peat use is suppression of traditional culture.

To think, if only Ireland had remained part of the Union they could now tell the EU to go jump…

  4. It’s 75f in the trap shack right now. Supposed to be -20 here tonight.
The old wood stove is chugging right along…
