34 Replies to “As Alberta’s wind power generation collapsed this week, so, too did Saskatchewan’s giant stinkin’ fans”

  1. Giant stinkin’fan at Assiniboia.

Or as Sask Power board member Fred Matheson from men’s wear would point out. – XL Tall.

  2. I don’t know of a single successful non crown corporation that would keep it’s current CEO or even the board of directors if they wasted company resources on useless investments like this. Although some inane oil companies virtue signalling.

  3. We need a new stat holiday in January. Call it “Renewables Day”. Turn off all sources of energy except wind and solar for one day. Unfortunately everyone will experience the holiday joy, not just climate freaks, but it would be worth it.

    1. Great idea, Greg.
There’s already an “Earth Day”. I suggest naming the January version “Down-to-Earth Day”.

      1. Soon … earth ‘day’ will become earth ‘season’, as all the lights and power go out … involuntarily

  4. Those turbines are monuments to the ignorance of weather and what it does to winds and temperatures. Never mind the nocturnal inversion that sets in almost every night, reducing winds within a few hundred feet of the ground to nothing.

Averages of power generation are nearly meaningless. As one wise fellow pointed out, you need capacity for the extremes, not the average. Just try wading across a river that is three feet deep on average. Was nice knowin’ ya…

  5. Add this to the ‘stories you won’t see on CBC’ category. I can’t believe Alberta and Saskatchewan are buying into the fraud.

    1. Larry. I’m sure it was a rhetorical question but I like saying it out loud. The ones making the decisions aren’t accountable to the ones who are funding it!

  6. If they were remotely serious about renewables they would expand that program where home owners could sell power back to saskpower. Tax breaks for home owners to install their own generation. Govt always gets in the way and takes over like a bully. Stop spending other people’s money already.

    1. I think that was tried already with the results being a jump in energy prices at the same time taxpayers were over funding these small producers.

  7. Wind and solar on the grid are baby soothers for the Eloi until the road to serfdom and misery is complete. As long as the institutional left and their sociopath leaders are seen building them in the “great transition” (to poverty and dependency), the masses believe they will be taken care of without having to learn math skills, science and most importantly, critical thinking. And, perhaps they will be cared for…… as sheep.

  8. Has anyone considered that Montana may have stolen the wind?

Makes as much sense as the idiots erecting the stupid things, thinking they are doing the planet a favor. They don’t even reproduce the energy used to make them, in their expected lifetime service. These idiots are either complicit meaning they are evil, or they are fools wearing rose colored glasses. No matter which, the taxpayer is on the hook!

John Chittick above, has it correct, they are just a prop or salve to pacify the sheep while the globalists cement their domination plans.

    1. “They don’t even reproduce the energy used to make them, in their expected lifetime service.

GK, do you have a link? I’d like to follow up on that.

        1. John Chittick. Great article, and not one I’ve read before, so thanks for posting it. I’m sure it will be of value to DB and others, including me.

      1. DB, Sorry, I don’t have a link, and truthfully, I wouldn’t know how to insert one if I did. Computer tech and me, are not friends. As to the amount of energy used to make the darn things, is something I’ve read on several occasions. I do remember one or two articles with good stats, but I couldn’t quote em. I’ll have a look around, and if I can find what you request, I’ll be sure to update you either here or in a future post.
        Sorry to disappoint. 🙁

        1. I don’t provide links either but in simple terms it takes five units of energy to make a turbine that will produce four.

        2. Hey, GK.

Inserting a link is easy. Copy from the address bar, paste into the post. No other posting-fu required.

I found your statement very interesting. I’ve never crossed paths with that & would like to learn more. Appreciate the search efforts. Thx.

          1. DB, Thanks for the link info, I’ll attempt a try soon. If you find more on the subject, please share.
Also, VOWG’s simple statement was worthwhile, as in “units of energy”. Not sure where he found that info, but it aligns with what I’ve read in the past.

    1. Thanks for that, Harry. Revealing numbers. Can’t help but wonder how long this reporting will continue. Cost per unit generated would be a nice addition.

  9. If only there was a substance which you could manipulate by the laws of physics to create a steady flow of power, without releasing greenhouse gases, and it was even available in large quantities nearby. Get your radio active, perhaps somebody knows of such a thing.

  10. In Alberta at 7 PM combined solar/wind is producing at 253/4214 or 6% of capacity. Coal is doing 817/820 or 100% of capacity. Voters are so brain dead stupid to believe this global warming garbage. Such a total waste of cash.

  11. The times when you need energy to maintain human life are at the extremes, +35*Celcius and -35*Celcius are both common here in southern Alberta. However, when we reach either of those temperatures, there is ZERO wind blowing. And this is a very windy area of the country. Solar power has ZERO chance of replacing that shortage of power in a day with barely 8 hours of daylight in Dec and Jan. “GREEN” Energy is a death sentence for society.
