To hell with that

Premier Scott Moe quoted a Pipeline Online story regarding shutting down coal and natural gas for our power production, as well as possible federal limits on nitrogen fertilizer emissions. “To hell with that!” he said in his throne speech on Nov. 3. This is the energy portion of his speech.
On Halloween, 81% of SaskPower’s electricity came from coal and natural gas, a nearly even split.

  1. Sounds good but, personally, I wouldn’t put to much stock into what Moe and his Saskatchewan Segregation Party say. Never trust segregationists.

Saskatchewan does need to tell Ottawa to go to hell. Their policies are designed to hobble our provinces economy and destroy our standard of living. Energy and food security are too important to leave in the hands of the Trudeau Liberal-NDP coalition government. The federal government isn’t working in the best interests of Canadians, especially not for Canadians living in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

    1. “Energy and food security are too important to leave in the hands of the Trudeau Liberal-NDP coalition government.”

The bastards aren’t fit to scrub my toilet, let alone run an entire country.

      1. Look how well the Trudeau Liberal-NDP coalition government is running the passport office, the immigration office, PAL renewals, Permanent Resident card renewals, the RCMP, the military, etc. Like you, I wouldn’t trust this federal government to look after anything more complicated than a pet rock let alone essential products like energy and food.

      2. If Canadians ever figure out what what they have really been up to the only job they will be able to get is rope stretcher.

  2. Every province needs to tell Ottawa to go to hell. However, we have a better chance of getting western Canada to declare independence. I sense this is inevitable.

    1. Exactly….it is time to ignore Ottawa. In fact, go a step further….with the constant attacks on the energy industry by the Liberal/NDP cabal, the west should shut off the delivery of oil and gas to the rest of the country. Especially when it gets REAL cold.

    2. KAPLA!!! And if JT wipes his a** with this provincial legislation, as per usual, then the next step needs to be an announcement from Scott Moe re the date for the referendum on seperation from Canada.

    1. Ignore that too. Alberta and Saskatchewan should fund the building of an enormous fertilizer plant given that together we have all natural resources we need to make the stuff. In the longer term, buyers will be pounding down the doors to buy the stuff.

      1. Art, how do you propose to deliver oil and gas and fertilizer to the rest of the world? The federal government controls borders.

        1. The current Liberal federal government controls borders…..you assume that will always be the case. I suspect when people are being starved and frozen out, that will change.

        2. cgh, which is precisely why WEXIT.

I occasionally come across naysayers who say that we’ll be a landlocked country w/ no access to tidewater. I’m no authority on any of this, but it’s my understanding that the UN (no less) guarantees access to tidewater:

The law of the sea and landlocked states<

          https://saiia.org.za/research/the-law-of-the-sea-and-landlocked-states/

That said, here's a bit of a stickler:

“While UNCLOS provides a general freedom of transit, landlocked and transit states must enter into bilateral, sub-regional or regional agreements on the terms and modalities for exercising this freedom.

I’m thinking that a tax of 1000% for all goods crossing (or entering) Buffalo either by land or air would induce a significant amount of cooperation from BC & central Canada. An additional wedge would be to turn off the taps on the gas lines heading into BC and central Canada. Plus, we’re connected to a huge market stateside if they call us on it. FJB ain’t gonna be the quote, unquote “pResident” forever.

If any of them wanna be assholes about it, there’s a helluva interstate system attached to our southern border that will supply us with whatever we need.

This can be done. And a lot quicker than most understand. Why are we hanging around?

          1. And all one has to do is to take a look at the Greater Idaho Project. The concept of splitting off part of Oregon and California and Idaho gaining access to the Pacific. The real great part of this whole thing is that the nut jobs in Oregon, Washington State and around Vancouver will essentially be cut off…..sort of like a warmer Alaska.

          2. Hey, Art.

Yes, I was reading some about that a couple weeks back. I was surprised at the size of the chunk of Oregon they’re proposing to take. Lots of parallels w/ WEXIT, too.

          3. DB

If the powers that be in our 2 Provinces would take a real good look at what we COULD DO..??

3ea 42″ X80 pipelines from Hardisty/Ft Mac up to the Alaska border – Connect to the Trans, Alaska pipeline system direct to Valdez. Yr round moorage for VLCC & ULCC crude ships.

            Done. And SCREW OTTAWA.

Build it – Separate and they will come from across the country.
            A Fossil fuel powerhouse.

And best of all, The Alaskans have previously said they would welcome every drop…

          4. Steak, no argument. However, to accomplish that we need politicians w/ both vision and cajones. I’m not convinced we have either.

  3. “If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there’d be a shortage of sand”
    Milton Friedman.

“If you put the federal government in charge of energy and food, in 5 years there’d be a shortage of energy and food in Canada”

Note: AB has a +1100 supply of coal, and supplies 50% of the beef for Canada, and at least 300 years of oil and gas supply at current levels of production, while Sask. is loaded up with EVERYTHING it needs to grow grain for the nation. The nation of Canada doesn’t want this food and energy, they continue to elect political parties which seek to stop what we do.

So why are AB and Sask. playing the game of wanting to be part of this tier 2 nation?
Hopefully Premiers Smith and Moe have had their people discuss their B plan in private… the federal #Libranos and NDP isn’t (singular “isn’t” not plural, they’ve become like one) going to allow the west to not comply with their wishes.
    #separation

  4. Trudeau’s pipedream of no fossil fuel should be interesting when the blades start falling off the windmills in 2035. They only have a life of 20 years unlike a coal plant which is over 50 and a nuclear plant upwards of 80 years. Europe is currently in a state of de-industrialization because of the high cost of energy and those businesses are re-locating to China. Perfect, what could go wrong? Maybe when all the car plants close in Eastern Canada the Lib lovers will wakeup, but i doubt it, the blame will be put on the oil industry for not investing in green technology and making themselves irrelevant.

    1. Ohhhhh … that’s what they meant by “renewable” energy. We have to keep renewing the inefficient energy infrastructure. More work for the ChiComs

      1. This whole climate change gong show is designed for the benefit of one country and one country only…..China. Maurice Strong was a Maoist as are many in the Liberal “government”.

  5. Time will tell, Mr. Moe.
When the first challenge goes to the SCOC and they rule against you, deliberately abrogating the law (as they did with the carbon dioxide tax – I refuse to call it a carbon tax) will you again tuck your tail between your legs and say “Oh, well, we tried.”?
Or is there a Plan B for when (not if) that happens?
BTW, if you and Premier Smith have a Plan B, it is probably wise not to announce it now. Just implement it when the time comes. No warning, no chance for them to circumvent it.
This is no longer a country. It is Us vs Them.
At least in the States, they get that. In our country, only one side seems to, and it ain’t Us.
