“De-Energization”

Third world status coming right up.

California Public Utilities Commission- Utility Public Safety Power Shutoff Plans

Utilities may temporarily turn off power to specific areas to reduce the risk of fires caused by electric infrastructure. This action is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) or “de-energization.”

Pacific Gas and Electric- Prepare for a PSPS

A PSPS means you could be without power for several days. We know it will be a hardship and want to help you prepare in advance. Use the following tips to get ready for, and stay safe during, a PSPS.

  1. I hope someone is mapping the neighborhoods affected by these ‘rolling’ power outages. It would be curious to see how neighborhoods featuring rich Dems fare against those featuring the middle/lower classes.

    1. You have to remember that coastal California has practically no need for electricity for heating and cooling, Compared to the very hot areas just a few miles inland. There are only 600,000 electric vehicles in the state, so that’s probably not a worry either. But it will be interesting to see to what extent the wealthy coastal areas will be included in the blackouts.

  2. And the “risk of fires caused by electric infrastructure” is actually caused by government regulations that does not permit the proper management of vegetation along the power lines. Kind of like in Australia where people were not permitted to clear brush, etc., near their houses. These people are too stupid for words.

    1. NOT “stupid”.

      Psychotic? Yes.

      Criminally malicious? Most certainly.

The time for granting the benefit of doubt to these people has LONG passed.

If an electricity supply and distribution system becomes a (fire) hazard, it is abundantly clear that there has been long-term neglect of normal maintenance and replacement procedures. DELIBERATE “neglect”.

They are building a “problem” that will require THEIR, (of course), “solution”; likely a “FINAL” one.

Harsh assessment? Not really. And NEVER forget that Murphy was an optimist.

  3. You know there is an entire industry devoted to “Utility Right of Way Vegetation Management”?

There are federal government approved “Best Practices,” Regulations, and Standards. They have been in place for years, and were really given a boost when a single branch from a dead tree in Ohio fell into a transmission line and shut off the power in a dozen states for hours and days way back in the 2000’s. FERC / NERC / and the DOE got serious about the problems. Well run utilities take the requirements seriously, and they have been paying off in fewer outages caused by trees.

Somehow California Utilities were? and are? immune to these rules and regulations, even if they kill over a hundred Californians. PG&E was even convicted of 84 deaths from one single fire:

The California approved answer isn’t to spend money to clear the electric line right of ways and fix the poles, insulators and conductors on transmission and distribution lines. (Cleared and maintained Right of Ways also make great Firebreaks.) That costs real money and employs lots of highly trained union workers (mostly burly men). Worse? It takes money away from building bird chopping Windmills, Chinese Solar Farms, and other Unicorn Fart Driven “Green Initatives.” The California answer is to turn off power to entire towns for days and weeks if the wind might blow too hard.

        1. “California And New York: Do Not Back Off Your World-Beating Green Energy Schemes!”

“Today the Manhattan Contrarian formally calls upon the states of California and New York: Whatever you do, do not back down from your crash program of green energy schemes!

The full text of the Manhattan Contrarian official announcement follows:

California and New York: It is critical to mankind that you pursue the full extent of your green energy schemes to conclusion as soon as possible and at all costs. If you really believe, as you proclaim, that all-renewable energy is a moral necessity to save the planet from the existential crisis of climate change; if you really believe that energy derived from fossil fuels is dangerous and polluting and is causing dangerous climate change; if you really believe that renewable energy is now less expensive than fossil fuel energy; if you really believe that an all-renewable energy system can actually work to power a modern economy; and if you really believe that all that is needed to get to an all-renewable future is to build enough solar and wind generators to do the job — then you absolutely must see this project through to conclusion and without delay.

Now is not the time to go wobbly. You owe it to the world to show everyone how this can be done. This is your moral duty.”

  4. Let me guess – their next move will be to decriminalize and not prosecute for arson so that all forest fires will be due to climate change.

  5. Not exactly conducive to making me want to run out and buy an EV asap.

Not that I ever will, but if some fools want to waste money on one, then they probably qualify for the “fools parted with their money” bit. A new EV costs what, about sixty seventy grand, the battery life is about twelve years and even if a replacement battery is possible, it will cost more then, than the cost of the new EV now, so essentially the vehicle will be scrap value. The cost to produce it and it’s battery were no less costly to the environment than a gas vehicle, however, as said a few days back, they are simply exporting the enviro costs elsewhere. Then when it’s scrapped it will also cost the enviro a bunch more, while the fool was conveniently parted with his money at the beginning. A really clever fool, I expect, will then rush out again to buy a brand new one hundred and fifty thousand dollar EV, to start the cycle all over again.

Or would that be, “start the recycle” all over again? If a new fool is born every minute, there is a certainty that there will be a huge market for EV manufacturers to exploit. I was once curious as to why the vehicle manufacturers would be so eager to climb aboard the EV train, until I considered that they are in the business of making a profit, and if the whims of many fools want to virtue signal, then they are sure to oblige. Why would they care about truth and realities of the vehicles they make, when the problems arise long after the warranty has expired. I guess at least the landfill volume is smaller for an EV than for a wind turbine, at least there is that!

  6. They’re getting what they voted for. Best possible consequence.

The only question is, will they realize it.

    1. Guarantee all of the areas that lose power will be rural, where most of California’s remaining republicans live.

  7. At any given time, I’ve got $750.00 – $1,000.00 worth of food in my Ref’r and Freezer … yet all PG&E can advise me to do is not open the ref’r during their PSPS power cut offs.

How about REIMBURSING me for the food losses you Global Warmist, “renewable”, “cheap”, “green” IDIOTS!!!?

    1. You hopefully have a chest fridge and chest freezer, that run on dual fuel, like electricity and propane?

      1. We ordered a Generac at the end of last year. Might be installed in another 20 weeks or so. The wait is that long.

      2. BTW … I live in a R-20 zoned (1/4 acre lots) suburb. In a metropolis of about 10M people. I don’t live in the sticks where one power pole down will cut off my electricity for days on end. No. This is because PG&E diverted all their $$ into “green” “cheap” “renewable” electricity generation. It’s been just the opposite … and deferred all maintenance on their infrastructure. Yes, it’s CRIMINAL malfeasance by The Utility and it’s Regulators. CRIMINAL malfeasance.

Politicians … woke … womyn … executives were running PG&E … not Engineers. CRIMINAL malfeasance

  8. Pray to San Andreas.
We’d all be better off with an earthquake/tsunami event to swallow and then wash down that left coast of nonsense.

      1. China has a space station, and full ability in LEO. If they want to, they can land a nuke anywhere on the planet. Now you should go to Russia and protest for pride parades, as that is a sure killer of a civilization.

    1. Pro tip: The Bidinh Admin. has already adopted ALL of California’s malignant policies for the Federal Govt. We’re ALL California now …

  9. This isn’t going to really matter until January 1, 2028. THEN, people are going to bitch.

Up until that date, you can still use gasoline powered generators. However, after that date, they become illegal and selling them is, also, illegal. Just about everyone who owns a residence has a stand alone generator in California. Urban areas, however, are SOL.

  10. Of course. We all know from Orwell’s 1984 that language in the hands of the ruling Party is a weapon. Double-plus-ungood vs really bad. Same here, it’s not rationing, it’s de-energization. Sounds better, more ‘posh’, it even gives the impression that gov knows what it’s doing.

  11. Part of me believes the leftists want to make life so awful that all the brown people move away.. This way you get rid of them without being racist..

  12. Major inequality will promote major unrest.. Unfortunately the bubble people will find this out the hard way..
