Fired for Being Woke

SpaceX’s recent decision to fire Woke activists is a thing of beauty:

You may have received an unsolicited request from a small group of SpaceX employees for your signature on an “open letter” yesterday and your participation in a related survey. Based on diverse employee feedback, this has upset many. That is, the letter, solicitations and general process made employees feel uncomfortable, intimidated and bullied, and/or angry because the letter pressured them to sign onto something that did not reflect their views. Employees also complained that it interfered with their ability to focus on and do their work. We have 3 launches within 37 hours for critical satellites this weekend, we have to support the astronauts we delivered to the ISS and get cargo Dragon back to the flight-ready, and after receiving environmental approval early this week, we are on the cusp of the first orbital launch attempt of Starship. We have too much critical work to accomplish and no need for this kind of overreaching activism — our current leadership team is more dedicated to ensuring we have a great and ever-improving work environment than any I have seen in my 35-year career.

…blanketing thousands of people across the company with repeated unsolicited emails and asking them to sign letters and fill out unsponsored surveys during the work day is not acceptable, goes against our documented handbook policy, and does not show the strong judgement needed to work in this very challenging space transportation sector. We performed an investigation and have terminated a number of employees involved.

  1. I enjoyed reading that. How many universities could Elon Musk afford to buy?

    1. To paraphrase the true Great One:

“This may not be the beginning of the end, but perhaps, it is the end of the beginning”.

I mean, some sports are getting unwoke (men can’t play international women’s rubgy, swimming…), even the precious Washington Woke fired someone for cause recently.

      Its a start.

      1. When some trans “woman” knocks that pink-haired, mouthy, lesbian off the vaunted US Women’s soccer team … the trans nonsense will officially be OVER. And perhaps … our girls will grow up to be WOMEN … not “transition” into little “boys”.

        1. It’s well past time for the U18 boys team that shellacked them to identify as women, and replace the US “womens” team…

though I suppose you could also find a U14 team that would do the same

        2. Kenji nails it!
Rapinoe has gone ‘all in’ supporting transgender women in sports, and as a ‘wokester’, she has no choice but to maintain that position, (which she will, right up to the point ‘transgender women athletes’ start to infringe on her turf). But as soon as that happens, we’ll see her do the fastest ‘about face’ in history!

Real women (those wonderful human beings born with the anatomical equipment to bear children and the compassion to raise them) should be outraged at the shameless disrespect that ‘wokesters’ in government and the mainstream media are showing them today. Throughout history, real women have endured and sacrificed far too much, for far too long to be subjected to this level of disrespect. And regardless, no one ever deserves the level of contempt and sneering disrespect the ‘woke’ mob showers on people they hate. For some reason, the ‘woke’ mob is out to destroy real women, and in response, real women and those who love them need to break out the torches and pitchforks and go postal on the ‘woke’ idiots.

And JD is absolutely correct as well! That would be the sweetest Karma ever.

          1. She can afford to say that.

She retired from the international level.

It is not HER spot on the team that might be screwed over when Bob and Dave decide they are not getting enough field time in the local Men’s Div 3 team.

    2. Why buy? He could create his own and ensure that it only covered “real” subjects and put exclusion clauses into any tenure agreements (tenure does have its place).

I think its degrees would be worth 5x one from the current crop of Amarican universities. Probably with fees 1/10 of those.

    3. That is an INFINITELY better value buy than Twitter.

Musk could do so much good for the world with some universities. Not just ending ‘speech codes’ or such but tearing the whole graduate studies process down to the studs and beyond. PhDs and MScs take too long and are BS. I think the whole thing needs to be completely revolutionized right down to formula.

    4. I read today that at least one of the people fired is sueing Musk, presumably for wrongly dismissal. I can’t see that going anywhere (even with a really wacked out left-wing judge.

  2. I’m old enough to remember when bad-mouthing the boss was just grounds for dismissal.

    1. Imagine being in a large company and spreading a form letter bad-mouthing the CEO, on company time, using company resources.
Those idiots should have to pay for the wasted time and resources, as well.

If he takes over Twatter, the purge should be epic.

  3. Athena Thorne (author of the article): “I’ve previously mentioned that the end-stage of terminal wokeness is when the infected organization eschews its original purpose to dedicate itself primarily to perpetuating wokeness. ”

Terminal wokeness is exactly the right phrase to describe Canada’s government bureaucracies which employ 25% of working Canadians. Can’t get a passport? Can’t get through an airport in less than 6 hours? Can’t be seen by an emergency room physician in less than 10 hours? Can’t get the police to protect you from armed criminals? Can’t expect the military to buy ships and planes that work and are on-time and budget? But you can be confident that everyone of the government bureaucracies in charge have an overwhelming focus on wokeness. Service to Canadians be damned.

    1. Bang on. Should be PP’s campaign theme for “this is how I’ll fix this broken government”.

    2. I’ve previously mentioned that the end-stage of terminal wokeness is when the infected organization eschews its original purpose to dedicate itself primarily to perpetuating wokeness

That’s just Pournelle’s Law of Bureaucracies. All bureaucracies eventually pivot to preserving their own existence at the expense of their original purpose.

      1. Definitely not “all” bureaucracies. There is a fundamental difference between government bureaucracies and bureaucracies in the private sector. Government bureaucracies never shrink or disappear. They grow only larger despite failing to provide timely and efficient services to taxpayers. Private sector bureaucracies, if they become too large and inefficient, drive their firms into decline or bankruptcy as other leaner companies win over customers and prosper.

  4. The sun is shining, finally, and now this; life is good! 🙂
The mind boggles…in what alternate reality would these twits not have foreseen a really bad outcome for themselves.

  5. There are thousands of tweets excoriating Musk over this on the grounds that he is, hypocritically, against free speech. I think they should go tell their boss to GFY and see how it goes.

  6. Perhaps these employees would be more suited to work for NASA. Where they can “study” global warming (read: fudge the numbers) to their hearts content. All while intimidating their fellow employees into darker and darker levels of woke judgements. Yes … they can “judge” their fellow employees all the while telling them to stop being “judgemental”

  7. l can see it now, “Houston we have a problem”
“well tough beans Spacex we’se all in the requisite inclusive training seminar”.

hey, SDA, do YOU get it now? Elon is AUTISTIC, just like me. we regularly BLURT THINGS OUT having scant or NO ‘normal’ ‘intuitive’ ‘instinctive’ understanding of the ‘normal’ ‘acceptable’ (read ‘woke’) *protocols*. we are however BRILLIANT when it comes to numbers, machines, hard evidence, reliable theories and processes. etc etc.
and *I* for one am also of the ASD (autism spectrun disorder) parked on a spot of the spectrum that includes extensive recollection of events, processes, numbers, etc etc. the other ‘stuff’ we have to mimic others and sort of go with what worked before.
anyway, BRAVO ELON !!! and remember, *regardless* how ‘justified’ or ‘legitimate’ criticisms aimed at him may be NO ONE IS PERFECT.

traitors exposed themselves, flies in the ointment have been expunged. and something this big this fast? there will be more heads ‘LOPPED OFF’, so pass the popcorn!!!
    yeeeeeeeeeHAAAAAAA !!!!

and finally, good luck Spacex !!!!!

  8. Kate,

Should the Approved SDA Style book include always referring to Mr. Elon Musk as the African American Elon Musk? He was born and raised in Africa.

  9. “I’ve previously mentioned that the end-stage of terminal wokeness is when the infected organization eschews its original purpose to dedicate itself primarily to perpetuating wokeness. ”

For example, a certain Canadian bank named after a province. They have all the woke signs, rainbow flags, hockey jerseys (for a charity), giant screen scrolling their policies on harassment, racism, talking loudly , etc etc etc. But branches can’t do anything. We personally know the manager of a branch, and she can’t do anything. You have to go to the center to get a credit card replaced (which they screwed up twice) . They offshored their core business somewhere where the call center employees barely speak English (so that would be either Toronto or Bangalore) and the turnover is such that you have trouble finding somebody that knows what the hell they are doing. No way to actually reach anybody. Total dumpster fire. BUT they are really on the ball when it comes time to suspend your account if you contribute to certain unworthy causes.

    1. I tried to sign up for a credit card from a similar bank and it took six weeks, because I have accounts with them under a slightly different name than the one the credit card company insists I use. This was apparently enough to confuse their systems to the point that the credit card request had to be forwarded to head office and personally signed by someone.

I work for a US fintech and Canadians really have no idea what’s available in that market for bypassing big banks and managing your own money.

  10. I live in a smallish southern BC town. The core is mainly a widow/disabled community. ONE of the buy-local-produce chain supermarkets began to celebrate the pride ego month with rainbow balloons, etc. I was back a couple of days later. All gone. So yes, customers’s objections do still work (I assume). Oh, and the buy-local produce fields will soon be paved over for even more distribution warehouses – the fields are federally owned.
