Half of France’s nuclear power plants are offline because of “maintenance or defects,” which comes at a precarious time for energy and power markets across Europe as prices soar due to the Ukraine conflict.
Bloomberg reports energy supplier Electricité de France (EDF) is struggling with widespread outages after 28 of the country’s 56 reactors are offline due to routine maintenance or defects.
France’s nuclear power plants supply more than 66% of its total power output. The outrage has caused nuclear power output to hit the lowest seasonal level in at least a decade.

You take 50% of the power plants offline, then the economy crashes. If the economy crashes, then people panic and become more pliable, food becomes scarce, heating in the coming winter becomes difficult, costs soar. The WEF proposes that you give up your rights in favor of personal salvation and a digital all controlling, all knowing ID embedded in your body. And some of the rights which you had before are restored, but now you own nothing, and you are able to move about in cities only using public transport. The WEF tells you what you will do, where you will live, and what you will eat. If you disobey, you are ostracized and it means death. If you are infirm, or poor, you are encouraged to kill yourself for the good of the planet.
Understand the goals of the enemy and you will understand the next move. They don’t care about you, they want you dead or enslaved in poverty.

The onset of Covid two years ago triggered operational backlash in electricity systems. In France this manifested as delayed maintenance procedures for all of France’s reactor fleets. But it all has to be done sometime, and spring runoff when hydraulic generation is at its highest is the best time to schedule these things. Don’t pay too much attention to Blomberg editorializing about nuclear “defects”. By and large, it’s covering for Germany’s phaseout policy and its continued reliance on Russian gas. It’s the usual misdirection by legacy media, “See, look over there.”

6 weeks, shutdown, maintenance turnaround.
Spring and fall are the “shoulder months”, where power needs are lower, hence the timing..
We should be going forward with SMR technology, there are abundant sources of uranium here in Canada, in the west no less, northern Alberta and Saskatchewan, most of the uranium used to build Americas first nuclear weapons came from here..
In this time of energy crisis, western Canada should be the leading producer of exportable energy, minerals and materials, but we all know why we are not. We are being intentionally held back.

I know I have bored all of the regular posters in the past, but I will repeat myself once more. Alberta and Saskatchewan became provinces in 1905. Both have been treated very badly by Upper and Lower Canada in the intervening 116 years, while being considered “have” provinces and so must be looted for the other 8 provinces and 3 territories.
I am DONE with all federal parties. I am for Western separation and will mark my ballot as such in all future elections.

I’d be curious to know what the balance is between “defects” and “routine maintenance”. France runs good reactors, so I imagine its mostly routine maintenance, which makes this a planning issue.

I think the writer meant to write “The outage has caused” but wrote “The outrage has caused”. The latter being closer to the truth.
It seems impossible that many EU countries, such as Germany, will be able to move beyond Russian sources of oil & gas by this coming winter. We might have to learn how to cook popcorn on an open fire, but it will be interesting.

Having worked in the energy field and farming I can tell you very few people know how much energy, logistics, resources, coordination and in some cases at least with farming, luck, it takes to deliver food and energy to one’s door…start messing with any of the above and it’s a recipe for hard times. It comes down to money, they can’t afford to maintain existing plants and spend on green energy so they waste resources on liberal pie in the sky scams. In NS they are twinning a highway, have been for two years, but a few natives protesting opening the sluice gates to keep the highway above the water line has stalled the project- cost over runs threw the roof? For 50 years the tide has been diverted to prevent flooding, and all it took was couple of protesters to stop a project in it’s tracks. Never mind the mythical fish we are saving have rerouted their migration pattern a long time ago, but oh well let us destroy a 50 year old fish habitat for one that use to exist. We are being forced to live in the left’s version of reality, and it’s ugly and smells like stupid.

EDF found that quality control records on some important pressure vessel components were fudged so were obliged to shut plants down to investigate /replace . Macron had planned to reduce France’s nuclear electrical generation but now has said that EDF will build more . The Russian stranglehold on Euro energy has forced his hand .
