Smoke, Mirrors and Flaming Sparky Cars

Terence Corcoran: The myth of the $10 EV recharge

In the magic world of the electric vehicle, nothing is priced at cost plus profit. Since there are no honest profits yet to be made in the Canadian EV market, the business of developing, producing, marketing and selling electric vehicles operates under a centrally planned command-and-control economic system. Nothing is real in the EV market, from the price of new Chevy Bolts to the cost of manufacture to the cost of filling up an EV at a charging station.

  1. Once everyone is forced to convert, the recharging subsidies will end. Home charging stations will have a separate power meter to include road use taxes.
There was one “true believer” commenting about how cheap his (power) bill is. He will get a rude awakening when his batteries no longer hold a full charge but it takes the same amount of time and power to recharge. Especially when the subsidies end.

  2. “But, but….electricity is just ‘there’….it comes from a plug in the wall…it’s magic, MAGIC, I tell you!”

    1. What’s gonna happen when unfortunate EV drivers suddenly cannot pay their utility bills because they drove and charged too much last month? Do they risk freezing to death when the power gets shut off? Soon, it will be a choice of mobility or morbidity.

  3. There’s nothing like hitting the road and planning ahead for 45 minute stops.
I’m glad On The Road has already been written, EVs would have really screwed the narrative flow .

    1. During my trips to and from my house in B. C., I stop to refuel my truck. From when I turn the engine off to when I start it again takes about 15 minutes, including washing the windows.

    2. … and I believe gasoline was about $0.25/gal. when that was written … DAMN! I loved being truly FREE in the 1960’s. Now just a faint vision in our rear view mirrors …

    1. And that is the only true answer. Personal vehicles will only be permitted for the nomenklatura, who’ll enjoy wide open boulevards with little traffic. Just like in Pyongyang.

    2. The Eloi will only be able to afford E- scooters and bicycles which puts everyone but the ruling class into buses and trains particularly in winter.

  4. Lariat Trim F150 Lightning Full electric with the big battery and Max trailer tow package – $96,595 – Range while not towing – estimated 300 miles

    Lariat Trim F150 4X4 supercrew Diesel -26 G or 98L tank range – 23 MPG estimate or a range of 598 Mi- $71,940

    Price difference of $24,655

Current price of Diesel – $1.729/L
Each fill up will cost – $169.44
Therefore I can fill up 145 times, travelling on average 86,710 miles before I reach the zero mile price of the electric version…

Tell me again how an electric vehicle is a good idea?

    1. Because oil is baaaaad mmmmkay? It causes ALL the diseases and cancer we’re getting. It fouls our air. It is poison!

That is what the docile population has been told over and over since the very first earth day. When they were told we can “reimagine” the world. And that the oil companies “killed the electric car”. Yeah … the population have believed all manner of nonsense since my boomer generation started lying to themselves and others.

    2. What on earth I an F-150 4X4 Super Crew Diesel…Whats it’s trailering capability… a Tent trailer..? Or a 22ft ultra light Hybrid..

      F-350 maybe..??

      Just curious…

      1. the trailer tow capacity of the F150 SC Diesel is 10,400# or 12,100# depending on gearing, comes with a 3L powerstroke V6
the trailer tow capacity of the “Lightning” (aka f150 electric) is 10,000# with the ER battery

I picked 2 F150s equivalents, same cab size (4 doors), same wheelbase, 4×4, trim, etc.
I could have done it with the other 4 motors, but it gets even worse

    3. 2022 Ford Ranger $35,000, 9.7L-100kms…
      Or my former 1999 F150 4.2L $6500 in 2006 13L-100km

    4. The situation is even worse than your “generous” math implies.
      – you still have to “fill up” the electric truck and pay for that
      – you have to fill up twice as often
      – unless you are at home when you fill up, you need to spend 45 minutes instead of 5 minutes, unless of course, there are two vehicles ahead of you at which point you spend 2 hours instead of 15 minutes for 2 cars ahead of you at the gas pumps
      – doesn’t reflect the even further reduced range if it is cold outside

I could go on and on, but won’t.

      1. I had a similar problem with my original 1960’s Fiat 500! The ‘heater’ was simply a tap off the engine air-cooling system, with a sliding thing to direct it on to feet or windscreen. So, driving back from Manchester one freezing evening in 1963, I had a choice – defrost the windscreen so I could see where I was going while my feet froze, or defrost my feet while my driving view slowly disappeared!
Ah! The old days! (And you can keep ’em!)

  5. The real consequence of electric vehicles is in slowing down the ride to Hell. We will arrive at the destination after being lectured to by the driver, Justin Trudeau.

    1. LOL.
You really think Justin Trudeau rides an EV?
He has fully heated, idling gasoline SUV-limosines that drive him to and from his private jet.
      All paid for by us!
      Aren’t we lucky?

  6. Now that the hidden costs are in consideration, when they are proved to be unfeasible, people will walk but not farther than five kilometers.

So, back to the eighteenth century we go.

  7. The sociopaths who now hold power and are the only ones electable to the Eloi who respond only to free stuff, are accomplishing the central planners dreams of removing the personal automobile through fiat and eventually pricing out of the market.

  8. The day we all drive an EV and the day a billion or two EV batteries have reached their end of life and we need to find what to do with them, people will realize that EVs are worse than gasoline cars.

Recycling them will use so much energy and resources, it will be a gigantic nightmare, and just throwing them away would pollute too much.

Then there is China who controls 90% of the rare earth metals, what if China gets angry at us and turns off the spigot and says no more rare earth metals for you?

Until then most people will believe the hype, the propaganda and the lies and will believe that electric vehicles are magical.

Most people believe that EVs can magically be constructed without emitting CO2, or without polluting or that the minerals can be taken out of the ground without damaging the environment, and most people strongly believe that electricty is clean, they have no idea that over 80% of the electricity on this planet is made by burning either coal, gas, petrol, wood or something else.

Most people think that “zero emission” ( as it says on Evs ) is a scientific fact when in reality it is a slogan just as ” have a coke and a smile” is a slogan.

EVs are NOT zero emission ( and NOT zero pollution ) , they simply emit remotely that is all…their CO2 is emitted somewhere else ( and they pollute far away )…and the fact it is far away does not make it ZERO.

There are so many things said about EVs that are NOT true, you could actually say that EVs are a scam.

A scam paid in great part with our hard earned tax money. ( the gov gives you a few thousand when you buy the Ev then more money when you have the charging station installed at your house etc etc )

That reminds me of that other “magical” green thing ; Ethanol from corn …
…which uses MORE energy to be produced than it saves !!!

Ethanol also reduces power and thus makes your vehicle use MORE fuel per mile !!!

The green movement is so full of lies, calling it a scam seems appropriate.

  9. The average 240 tonne haul truck burns about 3000 l of diesel in a 24 hour period. Where I work there are 15 of them, more or less, hauling copper ore out of the pit. Add to that the thousands of litres of fuel for the dozers, loaders graders etc it takes to get your copper/lithium/cobalt anywhere near the manufacturer. None of that equipment is electric except the giant shovels. Even the electric haul truck burn diesel. Green anything … isn’t.

  10. Electric vehicles are heavier than gasoline cars, a heavier car causes more damage to the road yet EV owners do not pay road repair and maintenance tax when they recharge their EV.

Since you and I pay that tax for EVs owners when we put fuel in our cars , EV owners can claim and shout from the roof tops that not only are their “magical” EVs “zero emission” ( they are not, they are REMOTE emission ) , but they are also ZERO TAX!

the whole thing is a scam…and you and I are stuck with the bill for that fraud.

I don t hate electric cars, but I strongly hate what they represent; a gigantic pack of lie, a gigantic fraud, and an excuse for tyrants to impose on us another imbecilic thing and a reason for those tyrants to sadistically torture us….and electric cars also represent how corrupt the media are as they repeat all the lies about EVs and about global warming and dying polar bears.

Electric car are to me a symbol of the worse things in humans….kind of like the covid.

    1. A heavier vehicle requires more energy to accelerate it. Supposedly an electric vehicle can regain that energy when it decelerates but at what efficiency?

      1. You will be lucky if the regenerative braking ads 10% to the battery range in normal city driving.

In highway driving the brakes dont produce electricity at all.

  11. The Globalist know the green scam is just that, a global financial shake down. Liberals think electricity is like magic, if they can’t see it then it must be free and green.

    1. Money for nothing and the chicks are free.

The grid won’t support this insanity and the Climate Nutters will be hitchhiking.

  12. Mass migration to electric vehicles will impose huge new loads upon the electric grids, many of which struggle to keep the lights on in times of extreme hot / cold. The problem is exacerbated by replacing dispatchable thermal generation with wind / solar that may not be there when the grid needs it the most.

  13. I plan to drive my low mileage, fully-owned 2016 second-hand Kia into the ground, for as long as they have gas stations. No fire-prone vehicle in my garage ever. I also resent subsidies and paying taxes for wealthy people who want to be cool or paying taxes/overhead for charging places.

Ditto for all unused, subsidized free bikes than no one uses.

  14. I see the future.
    Retribution is such a bitch.
Those who currently are attempting to impose battery driven cars upon us,at great expense of public wealth, shall be sentenced to; Travel only by Electric Car.
Let them live what they try to impose on others.
No exceptions, publish their names and pictures,if caught driving an internal combustion powered vehicle they are fair game to one and all.
    Open season.

Gang Green are as toxic to civilization as the disease is to your body.
