How Long Before We’re All Speaking Russian?

BP’s decision to dump Rosneft stock will cost it up to $25 billion

Following days of intense pressure from the U.K. government, UK energy giant BP Plc said it will exit its 19.75% stake in Russian oil company Rosneft, a dramatic reversal after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as Western nations are trying to inflict as much economic pain as possible on Moscow. BP had held its stake in Rosneft since 2013. BP is Rosneft’s biggest private shareholder, according to the Russian company.

Additionally, BP chief executive officer Bernard Looney is resigning from the board of Rosneft with immediate effect. The other Rosneft director nominated by BP, former BP group chief executive Bob Dudley, is similarly resigning from the board.

Via reader and industry insider Adrian;

Honest you could not make this shit up.

I wonder how those of my old colleagues feel about their BP pension being a play thing for children. There will be only one winner and one long term loser, actually a loser now, in the future and forever.

Utter utter madness.

I have said it for years Russian plays the long game, Russia will continue to dominate as the supplier of Hydrocarbons and she will reap the rewards and get to say exactly what she wants. I remember the Russian contingency being asked how low the price of oil needed to get before Russia stopped producing. The answer was it can get to $1/Bbl and we will still be producing and selling. That is how you obtain and keep a monopoly. The west is no longer a serious proposition.

        1. He looks similar to the guy doing walk-a-bouts in Kyiv and recording the happenings.

    1. I’m getting whiplash from the laugh riots that I can’t control and have no say but has consequences that they don’t clue into.
Boomerang is one one my favorite words now as shit comes back to bite these no minds.

One thing I have to give Putin credit for is he understands the massive mainstream media brainwashing that has been incorporated and isn’t taking it out on its citizens.
And he just wants his country back and not conquesting more land.

  1. So, Russia is about to secure more pipelines, and BP says “I’m outta here.”
I guess the shareholders are also brainwashed.

  2. “We need to build huge fans and big ass lightbulbs to keep the windmills turning and solar panels charging”
    Alexandra Ocasio Cortez

  3. “Western nations are trying to inflict as much economic pain as possible on Moscow. ”

    Suicide squuuuuuad, attack!

  4. How can you buy Russian oil & gas if Russia can’t get paid through the SWIFT banking system? How can you use Russian oil & gas after they invaded and conquered Ukraine? How do you replace 50% of your natural gas supplies and 20% of your oil imports in 9 months? You have a plan, right?

    Asking the EU.

Not that I like Putin but I do think he has thought some of this through.

    1. Putin started a land war in the Ukraine in the late winter. You know why all those armor columns are lined up nice and straight on roads like perfect strafing targets instead of dispersing through the fields and woods?

      Mud.

Talk to a farmer about spring mud some time. They’ve got some stories.

      1. Reminds me of scenes from A Bridge Too Far. All you need is a couple of suicide drones like the reportedly supplied to Ukraine Polish made Warmate and the column is stuck again and again.

      2. They also seem to have trouble getting fuel to the front. Russian tank crews have been going around looking for fuel. Two tried to get the police to help. But, you cannot trust the police as they were promptly arrested.

    2. cash, gold, western union, front companies?

all it means is the transactions are both more difficult, and have an increased cost.

    3. Steve- the Swift ban does not extend to the Banks handling oil and gas sales. Some “ ban “.

    4. How? Well … Spring is coming when temperatures rise … so Germans will just have to freeze for a few more weeks

  5. Just so I’m clear…I should support a country whose base ruling leaders teamed up with the DNC and the Clinton Foundation to spread false accusations about a US presidential candidate in order to influence a US election? I’ve got news for you…I consider Ukraine one of the most corrupt (still despite the claims of revolt) countries on the planet. I consider it a cash cow for some US politicians and relatives of US politicians. I consider it the base of the biggest Ponzi scheme ever attempted…which, btw, resulted in money laundering efforts by Ukrainian oligarchs that targeted the US Midwest.

Russia….Ukraine….nope, I don’t have a dog in this fight. Do you want to know how Ukraine is operating right now. Well, the government handed out 10’s of thousands of rifles to their populace (who have no training)…and then they are conscripting all males 18 to 60. It’s not for the defense of the country. It’s to create a photo op of tragedy for the rest of the world (which is inevitable). Incidentally, the entire DNC, Soros, and Clinton are all making noise about how much they support Ukraine. Canada’s far left is shouting out how freedom is soooooo important while stamping down their jackboots on their own citizens. Doesn’t that give you pause? What is the real motive here? Oh, and do you think the current leaders of Ukraine didn’t save documentation of past indiscretions and corruption? How do you think things would work out if that documentation fell into the hands of Russia?

    1. Do you know what arming civilians makes?

      Armed Combatants.

So any legitimate claims of “civilian atrocities” is going to have to go through a very messy and difficult analysis of whether or not those civilians were really “civilians.” Something not likely to happen in an active war zone.

But I’m expecting the Western Media WHores to ignore that and push the “targeting civilians” fairytale.

      1. It’s not just that the (now armed) conscripts have no military training. They have no GUN training. It’s a bloody photo op waiting to happen. And, I assure you that was the purpose behind arming them. And, where did the guns come from? Canada, Germany and the US. This is odd because the primary supplier of arms to Ukraine prior to this is India, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

      2. According to the media … all the women and children in Ukraine drove to Poland. Right? Weeping as they left their beloved country. The only people left are MEN with guns. Huh? Kinda reminds me of our Southern border invaders … men of military age with guns …

  6. Unlike Western leaders, Putin actually knows what the weather is like outside, because he can simply go out there and witness it for himself. He doesn’t need an entire government-supported Climate Industrial Complex to tell him that its warmer than he thinks it is.
That said, I expect the flow of gas will slow dramatically when Europe has a snap of very cold weather.
Aluminum supplies are already totally f***ed, because one can’t make aluminum without using a lot of electricity; and in the west that is simply politically incorrect.

  7. Wow whee look at oil climb.

Freezing their SWIFT access like trucker bank accounts might have been too aggressive a move. I’m guessing they never thought through the risk.

So Putin gets Ukraine, we get a monster recession when we wanted a recovery.

Plus e pay an extra 15¢/L today…because reasons.

    1. The media onslaught were all DEMANDING that Russia be removed from SWIFT. Days of 24/7 DEMANDING tougher (SWIFT) sanctions. And … the FAKE media got what they wanted.

Now, WE are all gonna get it … good and hard

  8. I am starting to believe that the US and NATO wanted this war to happen. I have read where the US were pushing the story to Russia that the Ukraine were going to be joining NATO soon, which has been a clear red line to Russia for a few decades.
Why would they want this is my question. The only answer I have been able to come up with is that they want to destabilize Russia and plunder it’s wealth by expanding the corruption that is currently going on in the Ukraine. China also benefits from this by eliminating a nuclear armed world power from their border without using any of their blood or gold, so they are playing both sides against each other.
The real question is, how much of this was Putin aware of before it started and does he have a contingency plan to deal with them?

    1. You know what Ken? I think this started because those people you’re talking about are all idiots. They think they can get what they want by blustering and killing a few civilians. China is an empty shell with a picture of a tiger plastered on the front. Russia started a war with Ukraine in mud season. Shiny Pony came within an inch of crashing the whole Canadian banking system because he wanted some trucks towed away.

      They’re IDIOTS.

    2. If you haven’t noticed, a great many governments are trying to out do each other on who can be the most corrupted.

    3. Ken.

One good thing about war. ( No I hate war)
But you learn how well the other side is trained and does all them new newfangled toys really work.

    4. That’s why Lockheed Martin and Electric Boat Company are both giddy with glee.

Electric Boat bemoaned the end of the Cold War and the layoffs that would result. Now they are actively recruiting for machinists, welders and engineers.

  9. Opinions are like assholes, every one has one. I remember when Snowden clued us in to what NSA was doing, and the brain trust in here expounded on how meta data was harmless. When in fact it is the most damning collection of data possible, and SD at CTH supports that , as does Sidney Powell.

    1. “…and the brain trust in here expounded on how meta data was harmless.”

Its funny NME, I was here when that went down, and I don’t recall it being that way. Maybe you could post a couple of quotes of people saying that, eh? I’m pretty sure I was more like “SEE?! THEY -ARE- DOING IT!!!!”

Were you even a troll here then? I thought the pet troll we kicked around in 2013 was phil, he of the one lonely neuron.

  10. BP and Shell are corporate equivalents of the institutional left. The institutional left is on side with the Clinton/Obama/Biden/Soros Ukrainian kleptocracy. Don’t know what the plan is but it could be to set up an energy crisis to take the place of the Wuhan virus to justify continued fascism in the West, although their energy policies were already doing the same thing.

    1. BP and Shell have both stated they plan to get out of oil and gas, I believe, in 2030. They don’t need no stinking Russian gas!

I guess they will sell unicorn farts and pixie dust, because what else do thy have in their portfolio?

  11. Commentary & to me, 100% opposed to the WAR DRUM bleating of US MSM Commentators, a crystal clear synopsis of whats been going on in the Ukraine for the past 5 days from one who sounds like a Canadian living in Kiev… and knows what the Fk he’s talking about.

Another Story you wont see on the CBC
    Enlightening to say the least.

  12. Russians can’t even get control of the supposed Russian part of Ukraine without bombing it to smithereens. I ain’t too worried….

  13. Who ultimately suffers from economic sanctions anyway? Hint: not the government that the mob is trying to punish. Sanctions on a country means sanctions on the people down below.

  14. And the Law of “Unintended Consequences” is once again in play.

Though, there’s an argument to be made how unintended it really is.

Play Stupid Games, win Stupid Prizes.

  15. I love it how the same people who insist that it was wrong and evil to invade a country whose leader had gassed 30,000 of his own citizens – and killed far more by other means… yet it is OK to invade a country because it has about the same level of corruption as its invader.?

All I’m seeing here is people picking sides according to domestic politics.

NATO is a defensive Alliance and always has been. The only way in which it is a threat to Russia, is its potential to block Russian invasion plans.

    1. I have no sympathy for either government in this mess. The ones who are going to suffer are the subjects of the belligerents.

      1. I’m watching the houses and apartment buildings getting shot by tanks and aircraft. I’m thinking “who is the a-hole who pulled that trigger, hmm? Where did that guy come from?”

Then I remember the video of Ashley Babbit getting shot to death, and the video of the cops kicking the sh1t out of Chris Deering for daring to stand still in the wrong place, and I know that They Live Among Us. Governments attract that trigger-puller guy and give him cover to do stuff like that.

Just an opinion, but maybe we could do with smaller, weaker government that is run by guys too scared to pull sh1t like that in case the public might do something to them. Like jail. “Oh, you invaded the Ukraine? Jail. See ya.” That’d be nice, eh?

  16. Anyone claiming that Russia will still be producing and exporting huge volumes of oil and gas at effectively zero prices, it accepting that Russia is a command economy, not a free market.

Maybe they can…. but you might try explaining how Russia can finance its economy and pay for its military after losing such a huge chunk of its GDP?

I’m still seeing more of a mad scramble to shout that Biden Inc has got it wrong “yet again”, than a principled argument for a war against a country and people who are no more evil than those who are killing people and destroying lives and property.

  17. Okay, who wants to bet they will dump their shares only to buy them back six months to a year later at double their original value?

  18. Moscow is shutting down most of the last of the globalist disinformation outfits still tolerated in Russia. One went black mid-broadcast, to the horror of an émigré who didn’t realize that his people could do anything to shut up the Russophobes for good.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/keithgessen/status/1498736905156014085

Meanwhile, what remains of Russia’s globalist fifth column who decide that they have finally worn out their welcome won’t be allowed to take more than US$10,000 with them when they go. If they leave, they leave with everything they deserve—the contempt of their countrymen.

Maybe they think Toronto will always need more Uber drivers. This assumes that there will always be a Toronto.

  19. Who is “Russia”? It sure enough aren’t the Russian people who are reaping any of the (imagined) rewards of it’s leader’s “long-game” strategy. Will “the Russians” also be the “winners” in a nuclear inferno? Russia now (almost) has the same GDP as Italy. I am shivering in my boots from its immense economic power.

    1. As a Russian pundit recently put it: if world peace means the end of Russia, Russia doesn’t want it.

After the Empire dies, people who know how to make and grow and build things will rebuild. And Russia will live.

The red and orange tumours on Canada’s body—that’s what will be burnt out. Nothing of value will be lost.

Your families and fair-weather friends who shunned you and mocked you for refusing the jab? The joke will be on them.

You might find it hard to find designer bubble tea for a while. You’ll get over it.

    1. Good link, also a very good idea. It would work it probbably be acceptable to both sides… except that leftist heads would explode

  20. To hell with this phony war and you cuckservatives. The Ukraine is governed by a flamer who supports cultural degeneracy, his military fatigue photo ops notwithstanding.

Given the choice between the globo homo west and Russia/China, the choice is obvious.

I’d rather speak Russian than Pakistani or some other mystery meat language.

    1. Flamer? That’s new to me and I detest Zelensky. He played flamers in comedy sketches, but even I can tell that was supposed to be funny.

      Progressive Pat, is that you?

      1. To paraphrase your post above, if world peace means never ending immigration and cultural degeneracy, then I don’t want it either.

Fighting for Ukraine means supporting globo homo.

        Which side are you on?

  21. I have recently gotten my third Online check of $21850 which I have made just by doing extremely Qaz straightforward and simple occupation Online. This Online activity is ooe astounding and normal acquiring from this are simply magnificent. Online by follow subtleties referenced on this web page………… https://clickherefordetail1.blogspot.com/

  22. We are now officially into “See you in the funny pages” territory.
    The propaganda is cartoonish.
Has any “Glorious Resistance” meme stood longer than 3 days?
All the freeloading medias are CBCing us 24/7.
Wait 3 days and we will spin you a new tale.
I laughed out loud at the Twice Slain Reporter.
    So typical of our Presstitutes.

I have no clue as to the whys and wherefores of this Conflict.
    But I know my enemies.
After decades of lying, who is buying their crap now?

If Putin is really resisting these scum, then I stand with Putin, for he is a minor tyrant, murderer and villain compared to the monsters attempting to whip up the mob against Russia.
    Naturally ,time will tell.
This may well all be complete theatre.

Anybody have a means of GPS tagging our media hacks?
If would be classic comedy to post their position,as in where they really are, right after they “Report Live from the Front”.
Because ,if they say “this is so” the only information I can glean,is For sure “This” is Not so.

    1. The presstitutes are probably just phoning and requesting the latest set of talking points. Just like they do here. They rarely go out into the field unless they need to pretend “they were there”.

  23. I told my financial advisor to dump all pfizer and Moderna stock if I own any and consider dumping Blackrock because of their ESG nonsense and their lefty chairman of the board.
Of course they do not manage the funds to that level of granularity, and also informed me that all of the major investment funds have ESG policies.
What is wrong with all of these people? Did they learn this shit in university or are their wives pulling their strings? Or did they promote their own personal Kamala’s to the board to assume the correct corporate positions?
