Things You Won’t See on the CBC

I’ll never forget how, after just a few weeks into the Covid panic two years ago, several people I personally know suddenly became virology experts, espousing all sorts of stuff with absolute certainty. 10 minutes before they knew nothing about the subject. Then miraculously they were world class experts. Funny how that happens.

The same phenomenon is occurring again with the Ukraine-Russia crisis. So many have suddenly become experts and absolutely knows what’s going on. They’re certain about who the angelic good guys are and who are the black-hatted villains. Given that I know nothing about region, the players, or the history, I’ve decided to sit back and learn as much as I can. One person I trust very much is American lawyer Robert Barnes. It would be well worth your time to listen to what he has to say about this conflict. If you don’t like detailed discussions, set the speed to 1.25X or 1.5X.

  1. More of mainstream media hype and political overreaction than anything else going on.
There is a Precision Military operation going on but it on the military itself.

    https://thesaker.is/quick-interlude-with-a-few-quick-comments/

At least you get some sense that people are more laid back and not fleeing, the Russians are coming, the Russians are coming.

The President of Ukraine will probably do more damage just for the media publicity of the Western Nations and of course the money they promise.

  2. Our bought and paid for media. Blacklock reports that Grand Marshall Justin ordered one of his cabinet ministers to contact journalists, regarding the Freedom Convoy.

    1. Yes Blacklock’s really is a wealth of information reporting on the corrupt LPC way of life that the MSM just ignores..
It was actually Minister Marco Mendicino who ordered it and testified at a Commons public safety committee that Freedom Convoy truckers were rapists.
Dr. Theresa Tam said Canadians should think of mask wearing as a habit like checking the weather so the provinces kind of ending the Covid restrictions is a head fake.
What a lovely country we have become under Justin Castreau and his regime.

  3. So many here claim to “hate the government” and distrust everything they publish through their propaganda ministries. Fair enough. So please explain how you suddenly trust everything coming forth from a government (Ukraine) that was installed by our corrupt government? And if you call me a “Russian troll” then that makes you a “CIA troll” a “Deep State bootlick” and a “WEF Davos toady.”

I am equally skeptical about all the news, whether it comes out of Russia or (even more so) coming from the West.

    1. Did you view the podcast? It’s pretty balanced and does not portray the Ukrainian government as “innocent as a lamb”, victims., quite the contrary.

      1. My comment is directed at the cadre of readers here who reflexively label anyone that does not toe the “we stand with Ukraine” line a “Russian troll.” Believe me, there are plenty. They may just be waking up in mommy’s basement now. Colonialidiot in 3…2…1…

        1. Doug, zero argument from me. The main reason I posted the Robert Barnes / Viva Frei video is for precisely the reasons you stated. This is not at all a black & white issue. Also, when you see the Usual Suspects pushing a particular narrative, it’s almost always B.S.

          1. Totally agree Robert and Doug. For me the skepticism set in immediately when the narrative went full out ‘Russia bad/Ukraine good’ without the details. Some media jumped on the ‘ blame Trump’ bandwagon. Then the gag worthy Freeland episodes. That’s when I realized I had to dig deeper.
Thanks to SDA and others for providing more details.
Where is Colonialista this morning? Conspicuous in his absence.

          2. Yeah… something tells me there’s more going on than meets the eye. Many were fooled when Covid was unleashed. I took the “Wait and see” approach, and I think I’ll do the same here for this situation.
There’s no chance I’ll trust and follow the media’s narrative, especially after the last two years.

          3. Contrast this with the coup in the Ukraine back in 2014. Back then, the Soros backed Maidanists were “the good guys”, and the new Soros installed government was instantly recognized as legit all over the west.
As I see it, as a general rule, one can usually assume that the truth is the diametric opposite of what the lefty smear machine known as the MSM is spewing.

          4. I agree and as you said having the usual suspects pushing the narrative sets of alarm bells.
Currently working with two intelligent Russians here is West Africa who I have known for a few years and eat with them 3 time a day its a work residence with restaurant so we discuss many things and of course recently its focusing on this.
They are by no means Putin supporters as know his for what he is and of course hate it has come to war but the Ukraine and the West can take plenty of responsibility for where this has led.
Putin has been very clear the last 14 years he will not accept NATO of missiles on Russia’s border and Ukraine has always been in Russia’s sphere of influence.. But I am no expert on it for sure so wont pretend otherwise.
I did come across this article and site that is a bit slanted to Russia’s grievances and is actually examining 10 predictions he made 8 years ago and updates.
It is very interesting reading but I am in no way endorsing it as no way to know what is actually true..
Lots of interesting comments as well. FWIW..

          5. Robert , wait till the Uke President threatens to release the info that Crowd Strike holds, it will be popcorn time:-)))

  4. It’s obvious that there are plenty of villains to go around. And there never was a time that lacked for idiots.

    1. Don’t you just love how they worded the answers? #1 If you don’t want to kill my grandmother and cause a collapse of our health care system. #2 Screw the people who aren’t vaccinated, we don’t need them anyway. #3 We should have the worst of both worlds, or #4 Don’t know, don’t care, you take care of it for me.
      And they’re still losing!

  5. I don’t know what I ought to think about Ukraine, but I’m instantly suspicious when the media volume gets cranked up to 11 on anything. I certainly don’t trust one word of whatever narrative they’re trying to sell.

Ukraine is a playground for corrupt American globalists, certainly including the Bidens; and Russia is a .. I don’t even know quite how to describe it. I was thinking quasi-dictatorship but that doesn’t seem right. Faded former superpower, yes. I’m struggling to think of a reason I should care what those two countries are doing to each other, and can’t think of any reason whatsoever why the west should risk going to war with Russia over it.

    1. Yes….we know the filthy Biden hands have been busy in Ukraine for years. We also know Putin does not bow to WEF.

Kate had an expression: When your enemies fight don’t pick sides, pray for an asteroid.

    2. I agree with you, although I’m concerned that whether the west should risk involvement in the war, we might have no choice, with the incompetents running the show.
I have somewhat of a science background, so I fairly quickly deciphered the information about Covid, and separated out my opinion from the mainstream narrative (completely opposite, no big surprise).
Ukraine is much different – with very little knowledge of geopolitics, I am hesitant to come to any conclusions…although I realize that no one cares what I think (just like Covid!). But I too am suspicious when the media volume gets cranked way up, and everyone from minor (and corrupt) politicians, to tik tok stars, to Hollywood celebrities, are “praying for Ukraine” and calling out Putin (my naive reaction to all that….um, he has nuclear weapons, could we try to get along?). If some stupid celebrity thinks it’s all black and white, my first guess is that it isn’t all so black and white.

    3. “I’m struggling to think of a reason I should care what those two countries are doing to each other…”
You should care when one of those countries is a nuclear super-power, and threatens to use its arsenal.

      1. They are using their nuclear arsenal in exactly the way it was meant to be used: as a deterrent.

      2. fc
Butt don’t threaten our own government with violence to correct corruption, rite? Just slag gays instead. You have NO credibility!

        1. I’m sick and tired of your slander.

I have NEVER slandered gays, and I CHALLENGE YOU to prove otherwise!

Geez… I must be living inside your head. You won’t let it go, won’t you? Even if you are miles away off topic.

          1. fc

You made a comment about “gay Marriage”, trying to suggest they are not actual marriages. This is the problem with you bible bangers, you say stupid things so easily , you don’t even notice. A real christian doesn’t judge others, not even gays. Nor insinuates that their marriage is not ligit. Just can your bias already, try it, be more like Ken Kulak was.
You did that 2 days after expressing concern about a post Steakman made.

          2. Response to GYM.

And I’m doubling down. When you start changing definitions of institutions that’s been around for eons to please a certain segment of the population, you have a “tail wagging the dog” scenario.
We’re seeing the after-effects of that, because we’re now teaching kids that there are more than two genders, and that gender is fluid. Funny that… Gender is fluid but not inclination. Upside-down, topsy-turvy thinking, and no, that’s not from the bible. That’s the reality.
So no, Homosexual “unions” are not actual MARRIAGES, but I am not saying that homosexual unions are not legit. I never said that. We have recognized same-sex, common-law, relationships, and I’m ok with that, but far as marriage is concerned, changing it’s definition is an assault on the nuclear family.
I’m not judging anyone. Everyone has a right to live their lives as they see fit, and I don’t see how my approach to marriage should change anyone else’s, and I do have a right to express my views on the topic, or would you rather see me locked up on supposed “hate speech” crimes?
Steakman was way off base with that comment, and I rightly called him out on that, or do you not think that I have a right to defend myself? The fact that I only saw his comment two days later should have nothing to do with the way I reacted.

    4. Biden’s, Pelosi, Romney, there’s a meme, their kids work or worked with Ukraine gas companies.

      Notice how GWB is silent?

  6. When David Frum steps out from underneath his bridge to opine on geopolitics…it’s a clue to what the deep swamp wants and is Jonesing for.
And when half of Ukraine identifies Russian as their first language…it’s a tad more complicated than “me want land…me take land”.

  7. I barely know anything about virology but my immune system knows more about the subject than any virologist.

Ukraine? I’m leaving that up to the smart guys like Biden and Trudeau.

  8. I had no idea the Ukraine treated their own citizens like that, I have a whole new appreciation for what’s going on over there now. The Ukraine sounds like the new and improved welfare state, move over Palestine you got some serious competition for “Aide” money.

  9. @I.M. “can’t think of any reason whatsoever why the west should risk going to war with Russia”. Please do a search for “Chamberlain peace for our time” and read historical context etc. You will see it’s pretty much the same. Only this time is 2022 and the methods of disinformation/propaganda + the ways of killing each other are waay more advanced than 1938.

Ok, Ukraine is no angel but this does NOT justify a military conflict. There is NO reason for Russia to go into Ukraine like that. Think of it like an abusive relationship: some guy beating his wife for a long time, at some point he thinks she’s cheating on him and in a jealousy fit he is about to blow up entire building. What should the neighbors do? Discuss/split hairs if she’s indeed cheating on him or not? Or take action / make sure the guy doesn’t blow up entire building?

    1. You have described the Russia-Empire relations perfectly.

Except Russia is the abused spouse, not the Empire.

Russia has been abused and raped by her former pimp and his disgusting friends for 100 years. No more.

She’s not going to flee to some women’s shelter whose address is common knowledge to every wife-beater in town. She can’t hide, and knows it’s pointless trying.

      No indeed.

She’s going to thoroughly enjoy slicing off the bastard’s limp dick, using a steak knife on his intestines and dousing him with lighter fluid before roasting him alive.

Then she’s going to put the footage on social media and ask the perverts if they still fancy a bit.

      THAT’S empowerment.

    2. Don’t assume I don’t know my history, please. 2022 Russia and 1938 Germany are not good comparables at all. 1938 Germany didn’t have a nuclear arsenal capable of wiping out most of the human race, for the big thing.

As for the rest of what you wrote, I genuinely don’t know what your point is, other than you seem to be advocating for the west to DO SOMETHING!!! Except you offer no insight whatsoever as to what it might be, the risks of it, how Russia might be expected to react, etc. This is serious business that defies easy analysis. Hence why I say, I genuinely don’t know what the west ought to do here.

      1. @IM: “1938 Germany didn’t have a nuclear arsenal”. That’s why I said that “the ways of killing each other are waay more advanced”.
And re “I genuinely don’t know what the west ought to do here”, again the West should at least “make sure the guy doesn’t blow up entire building”.

BayouRM has a summary analysis of the entire thing:

        https://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.com/2022/02/the-ukraine-war-take-everything-you.html

He’s basically along the same lines: take everything with a grain of salt. Regardless the details of who’s guilty of what, the sooner the conflict ends, the better will be for the entire world. Because no one needs Famine at global level.

My guess? the West should work day and night to find a way/ways to make Putin meet his maker. He needs to be put out of his misery, and fast. Commando/Navy Seals/Drones + help from inside? Who knows, whatever methods or combination of methods but this should be done ASAP.

        1. The famine might be coming either way. Last year’s western wheat harvest was 1988 drought bad.

There’s another reason for high prices.

        2. DanC, you have just bought right into the MSM narrative of blaming inflation and further restrictions on Putin instead of our own lickspittle leaders, and you are in full agreement with the Turd, Biden, Hillary and Soros.
          Congrats.

  10. How to inform yourself about covid flu ? Get it yourself ! How to inform about Ukraine/ Russia ? Go there !

  11. I take a more philosophical approach: this is what Europeans do and the Dems (and rich) are plundering and hope Putin doesn’t spill the nasty. Yugoslavia wasn’t that long ago, what’s changed is Ukraine seems to be more important to the European powers because they’re actually willing to “do something.”And I want to know why, since they signed over their energy supply to Russia.

What else do you really need to know?

  12. The only thing I know about Putin (spelled Poutine in French) is that the best cheese curds are from communist Quebec. Ummm! Poutine…I can feel my heart slow down.

Boycotts are needed; don’t fix your Lada anymore, throw out your bottle of expired Russian dressing forgotten in the fridge and stop looking at sites for Russian mail order brides and If you are truly a champion for the cause send your vodka bottles to Ukraine so they can make Molotov cocktails.

    1. But…but.. it’s a very fashionable war! All the best oil and robber barons agree! I mean when you’re on the same side of the aisle as Hillary C and George S, what more can I say……

  13. Before we were fighting globalism, we were fighting commies like Putin. He hasn’t changed much, instead of a party of gangsters now it’s an anarchy of oligarchs, same general idea, different ideology but perhaps Putin still longs for the Soviet days and of course Ukraine was a very key part of the USSR.

Ukraine may be a mixture of good and bad, but on the whole, has to be kept out of Putin’s nightmare vision. If Putin is not driven back to the borders, there will be a bloodbath that will almost certainly spin out of control and bring a regional war and quite possibly a global war. How could that not go nuclear?

Some have given Vlad Putin a fairly easy ride over the years because he seems to be anti-globalist, somewhat of a traditionalist and evidently acting to hold a difficult country together. Without him, who knows what Russia might have become, and the possibilities range from better to much worse. But that easy ride must now end. Just as we had to make common cause with Stalin to defeat Hitler, we must now tolerate a minor step forward for globalism to get rid of mad Vlad, or at least to send him home with a reality check.

But once this is settled, we can resume our struggles with globalism, perhaps armed with new information that might somehow leak out of Kiev. I find enthusiastic defences of Moscow to be quite abhorrent especially on a conservative forum. This is one step removed from Stormfront talk, and should not be tolerated by the hosts. If such persons wish to spread their message, they should spread it on their own platform (which would be largely ignored). There’s a bit of a Duke of Windsor smell about it.

Mind you, I am surprised some of the old commies aren’t also out extolling the praises of mother Russia, after all, they must share that nostalgia for the glory days when any dissenter could be sent off to the gulag. I laugh at the irony of seeing the anti-Moscow stand of the Liberal Party of Canada and most of our media. How quickly they forget.

    1. You are with the globalists in believing that all the world’s borders must be forever frozen into the current configuration, and with the Soros regime in the Ukraine, 2 ways of saying the same thing.
Like the left, you are a master of projection, claiming not to be a globalist while espousing the globalist agenda.

      1. Well said. What else?

Bell and Rogers can take RT off their cable systems. They can’t stop reality from intruding in the firm of a direct nuclear strike on their corporate offices.

It would be laughable if it weren’t so utterly insane.

  14. Have as of yet watched the vid from Viva. I will.

    But at this stage..cpl things:

1: The entire MSM is losing their shit with what looks to me like a fair amount of fake / old video/stills.

2: I have heard that Russian Banks are not under the (Rothschilds Umbrella), and not exactly doing Davos Bidding…yea, I know Klaus has said Putin is a grad…but prove it..?

3: Interesting to note THIS shitshow starts as the previous Bio Weapon one is winding down.
    Convenient no.?

4: No can tell me that the 500 year continuous Machinations of the Global ELITE are nothing more than simply curious bystanders here….

    I Don’t buy it – Never will.

    1. As journalist Vladimir Solovyov has pointed out, this is actually a golden opportunity for Russia to build a fully independent financial system. The Great Reset the world needed as opposed to the one the globalists wanted.

Either way, the Empire of Lies is gradually removing most of the last of the reasons Russia had to hold back from destroying the Empire, and the Money Power with it.

The globalists are gulping down poisoned fruit punch before our eyes. We need to decide how badly we want to die with them.

      1. BRICS bank, a competitor to the IMF, and thus a threat.
I wonder when they’ll trot out India as an “enemy of democracy”

      2. twat, you foreskin
You only champion Vald because he bashes gays, nothing more, you have No credibility at all.

          1. yeahbutt
You ain’t bin read the twat’s posts very well. He has come right out and championed Vald’s arresting gays.
There are many gays, some good people , some not so good. In here and many other “right wing” blogs, there is a steady stream of negative posts about gays. And there are bible thumping posts in same said blogs. Or are you fucking blind and god damned stupid. I refered to you as the Ghost poster (aka, the awfull truth), and you responded to my post. Now give yer head a shake and be a man and own up to your own posts.

further more, I have a nephew who is gay, and he is capable of coming in here and destroying this blog, he is computer expert and has a damn high IQ. So I don’t appreciate gay bashing

  15. Fascinating discussion with Viva and Barnes. It gives a lot of insight into the issues.

I agree with Barnes. The best thing would be for Ukraine to grant the two eastern states independence, just like we should if Quebec, Alberta and Saskatchewan vote for independence.
They should also agree to not install nukes. Why do they need nukes? They might decide to make a first strike and start a world war.
And they won’t need NATO. They are not emasculated like the germans.

  16. And the sooner they can get rid of the sons or Biden, Romney, Kerry, Soros, and Pelosi from taking advantage of their family ties the better.

  17. 10 minutes before they knew nothing about the subject. Then miraculously they were world class experts. Funny how that happens.

Some of the problem is that many modern issues do require a detailed understanding of complex technical topics that the average person doesn’t have, so we’ve become used to relying on “experts”. (The problem of people appealing to authority for social media likes is a different problem). As someone with deep knowledge of a couple of technical topics, I teach people to evaluate these things by putting them in a black box. Forget the details: look at the larger, second- or third-order effects. If A is true, then what large-scale, observable should necessarily follow in the world? Are those happening? No? Then A is probably not true.

Does celebrity A believe that climate change is going to destroy islands and coastlines within five years? Is Celebrity A buying beachfront houses and islands in storm zones? Yes? Then Celebrity A probably doesn’t believe that.

Is COVID so dangerous that everyone must wear masks all the time? Well, are the people demanding this wearing masks all the time? No? Then those people probably don’t believe that. If they don’t believe that, why do they want you to believe that?

  18. Having a bit of trouble with this podcast. Sure the mainstream media analysis is superficial and inaccurate. But I’m not sure this is much better. If you go far enough back in history, Ukraine (with Kiev) was at the centre of a very small state that included Russia. Would that be an excuse or justification for Zelensky to carry on into Russia if he could?

Are they suggesting that Zelensky is the first politician to have said one thing to get elected and done another after he was elected? Times change and promises made in one circumstance may not be sustainable in or over time. Sorry, I’m not buying that “election promise” as justification for Putin’s actions. Nor even an explanation.

Ukraine’s economy has doubled in size since 1992; so has Russia’s.

And that there are real NAZI’s in the Ukrainian government? What does that look like? Do they walk around with Swastika armbands?

Putin’s fear is that there is a democratically elected government in the second most powerful nation in the region that was so close to Russia’s heart. He must be feeling the heat from his population and want to crush it.

    1. I guess you missed the parts (repeated several times) about Ukraine shelling Donbass, cutting off sources of fresh water to Crimea and banning Russian from being spoken in Ukraine. Does anyone even remember Maylasian Airlines flight 17? It was shot down by Ukrainians. They actually fessed up to the deed.

  19. The presence of some regular commenters here with their crass insults certainly contrasts the intelligent level of discourse.
But , hey, it’s Kate’s blog, and free speech.
Robert , thanks for the link to Viva and Barnes.

  20. If you don’t know who the bad guy is in the attack on Ukraine (and my colleagues there, one of whom just lost her house) then you either are willingly blind towards evil or should at least not expect me to value your opinions much. I just had to watch the protests in Ottawa for a day and knew who was lying (not the truckers). Putin told the whole world in his own words what he was up to. He was always a thug, a KGB thug for that matter, how can you still be unsure about his character after all these years? Just because the lying corporate media is apparently (I am not watching) agreeing with this truism? That would be an awfully cheap heuristic in lieu of logical thinking and a moral compass.

  21. Sorry about your friend’s house, but the fact that the CIA, WEF, EU, the entire legacy media, Davos Uniparty, Hillary, Soros, Schwab, Trudeau, etc, etc, are incessantly beating the war drums, clumsily cutting and pasting fake videos, and whitewashing a laundry list of Ukrainian underhanded misdeeds doesn’t give you any pause over the situation?

Have you ever heard of the Cuban missile crisis, by the way?

    1. “…the fact that the CIA, WEF, EU, the entire legacy media, Davos Uniparty, Hillary, Soros, Schwab, Trudeau, etc, etc, are incessantly beating the war drums, clumsily cutting and pasting fake videos, and whitewashing a laundry list of Ukrainian underhanded misdeeds… ” Agreed; this is a sign The Swamp is in the Ukraine up to their armpits and are desperate. Dunno nuffin’ ’bout Putin other than that he likes to be photographed shirtless, which is kinda wierd in a Trudeau sort of way. I feel sorry for average civilians and low-level men in military on both sides who are going to suffer and die as pawns for the Elites’ ambitions. Nevertheless, it’s overall best for Canada & USA to stay out of other people’s deep-rooted ethnic conflicts; recent experience has been that we don’t understand the nuances, we create a pile of new resentments, and we don’t really end up helping anything.
