  1. Why would anybody fight that guy? They don’t come any bigger and stronger than Clark Gillies.

This clip shows him scoring goals and fighting, but his most important asset was his play in the corners. You did not want to go in the corner with Mr. Gillies. You would come out either a couple inches shorter or skinnier.

    An awesome force of nature.

  2. Cause of death ?
They called him the Bear… you let the Bear sleep, don’t hit him, dont wake him up.

  3. Had what it took to be in the NHL. No helmets, no mouth guards, no face visors. That’s hockey. That’s enough in my books. RIP Canadian. In that highlight career clip I’d say he did just fine handling the puck as well as the goons. 🙂

  4. Robert, thanks for the memory. We have lost so many greats of the “Canadian Game”. I’m 71 and remember Johnie Bower without his face mask in goal. Yikes how he was hit. Clark Gillies was of that breed. Love of the game. RIP.

  5. In that clip Gillies takes on Terry ‘Bloody’ O’Reilly, Boston’s tough guy and it looks like he did pretty well.
O’Reilly finished his 13-year career, all with Boston, with 204 goals, 402 assists for 606 points, a +212 plus/minus and 2,095 minutes in penalties.

  6. Loved this guy. He was integral to the success of the Islanders, and especially his all-star linemates Trottier and Bossy. He could really do whatever it took to win a game, playing all 200 feet, doing the dirty work in the corner, standing up for his teammates, or popping in key goals.
