Campus Reform- As the COVID-19 pandemic continues into its third year, William Paterson University is now laying off 100 full-time faculty over the next three years.
Colleges and universities across the nation have faced financial hardships due to COVID-19. Decreased enrollment is a contributing factor because institutions rely on tuition payments for their budgets.
Gee that’s funny. Make higher education even more hellish by treating zero risk students like plague rats and less of them want to pay for the privilege. If they had any economics professors left admin could ask them about “incentives”.

I wonder if potential students being told by the colleges that they have to mask in Zoom meetings or that their natural immunity doesn’t work made them question the intelligence of those who were supposedly going to provide them with higher learning.

Over the next, I dunno 10 years or so a lot of these small, undercapitalized colleges are going to go out of business- they offer nothing, really, but a piece of paper that guarantees (or at least makes more likely) a certain level of intelligence. Thanks Griggs Power!
My two younger boys went to Midwestern SPLACs- chosen for lacrosse reasons, not academic reasons. I’d predict neither of them will have to attend their 20th reunions, as those schools will be out of business by then.
In a way it’s sad; these two schools have both been around for a long time, and have many alums that think of them fondly, but both are, educationally speaking, vast wastelands.
Probably because they can’t find enough bipoc students to educate on-line.

Interesting–University and Colleges have been frantically expanding their administrations over the pat 20 years, but keeping actual teaching faculty more-or-less constant. Now, when the tough times come, the faculty get the boot. I don’t cry too many tears for them, but it’s telling that the departments of diversity, inclusion and equity (DIE and JP would call it) seem untouched.
A YouTube video will convey as much information as a lecture at these colleges. Since they love visual communication and kids can’t listen to a proper lecture because words fly over their heads/ ears.
Mark my words, five years hence, the world will be crying out for sixteenth century lesbian Peruvian literature majors and there will be no one there to fit the bill.
Learn to code. Too soon?
Learn to do plumbing, electrify, work on cars and trucks, etc. A whole new world out there with no $50,000 debt at the start. Turn our woke high schools into vo-techs. When a teacher mentions Lenin, set him or her on fire.
I’m sure they picked off the “non woke” profs first then the “least woke” . It will be a blessing for the profs that lost their jobs.
