  1. North American was a major aircraft manufacturer which was acquired by Rockwell Standard more than 50 years ago.

North American Rockwell, as it was then named, was the prime contractor for the Apollo Command and Service Modules (though the basic development began when it was simply North American), as well as the space shuttle orbiter. Eventually, it was re-named Rockwell International.

I haven’t watched the documentary yet, so I don’t know if it mentions this, but it’s worth noting that North American also built the X-15. Much of the data acquired through testing it was used to design the space shuttle.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, RI lost much of its military business and, eventually, the aviation division was acquired by Boeing.

    1. North American: producers of some of the greatest WWII aircraft, the P-51 and the B-25.
Rockwell: producer of the greatest Cold War Bomber the B-1.

      1. Rockwell International a Subsidiary built the ” Rockwell Snow Crusher “.
A hideously heavy beast of a snow sled from the 70’s.
Still using the engine as a boat anchor to this day.

Rembrandt never left the Netherlands in his life, but the recent Rembrandt in Amsterdam exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada still managed to obsess, in the style of our times, over slavery, colonialism, and racism. The Ottawa museum announced, with a straight face:
The Dutch Republic of Rembrandt’s time had a very clear connection with the history of Turtle Island via contact between Indigenous peoples and Dutch settlers and through the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade.

    1. I saw that exhibit when it was in Ottawa. I thought the efforts to push political correctness really distracted from the art — trivializing Rembrandt and also undermining black and native art by awkwardly including them in an exhibit in which they did not belong and looked feeble in comparison to the great European master. I also thought that anyone with a high regard for art would not have done this. Presumably the new head of the National Gallery has a high regard for art. That got home wondering if the Liberal government has put out a mandate that all exhibitions must be ” inclusive.” That explains it. I have seen some very fine art pieces by blacks and aboriginals. But they are traditionally a different genre from European art and it is utterly ignorant to try to mash them together. I think our current era will go down in history as the Age of Stupidity.

    1. Regrettably, I think that the Dems will keep both Houses later this year. After all, if an excerebrose drongo like Prinz Dummkopf can manage to stay in power two elections in a row, despite clear evidence that he’s not just incapable of doing his job but is a crook as well, then what chance do the Republicans have?

      1. I think you may be on to something, BADR. Past experience with premature poll reporting has taught me not to break open the champagne corks just yet. A LOT can happen between now and November. Color me cautiously optimistic, but apprehensive. In other words, I am holding my breath, and crossing my fingers.

        1. “Mischief is important”

What if Republican centres just happened to delay reporting too?

          1. They all play their games, don’t they? It’s who “counts the votes,” right? Just a few days ago Joe was shouting that very thing over and over, at a mike — like some crazy nutter. He actually appeared at the House of Representatives. Not many seemed to pay attention to the old man, it was very unpresidential – very weird. Where was Dr Jill?

          2. Small town Pennsylvania should have a 200% turnout. Kind of like the ghetto where the 30% who voted had a 90% turnout for the old friend of the Klan, Biden. They had to stop counting so they could check off those 700,000 ballots trucked into Philadelphia from New York against inner city residents who didn’t vote. Not complicated at all.

        2. Scar @ 11:10 AM:
Canadians had the inside scoop. It was from Dr. David of Fredericton who wrote here April before the election, a full 7 months earlier, that POTUS Trump was going to “lose” the election.

    1. Ardern is just another communist looking for an excuse to exercise her totalitarian mandate. It won’t last.

      1. Codex, Ardern is a member of the Klaus Schwab cabal of communists called “Young World Leaders”. Everything she has done was ordered by the WEF and they have specific goals. Covid is ending and they know it. Food Shortage is next. They want everyone broke, unable to move around at will, and starving. Almost forgot, with vaccine passports.

  3. The media are reporting that President Biden, during yesterday’s press conference, stated that Russia will be invading Ukraine:
    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/19/us/politics/biden-putin-russia-ukraine.html

(Under a paywall, but, as a NYT article, that’s probably a good thing)

The upcoming invasion will be a profound and important event, on many fronts. Here I agree with the paleo-conservatives (read Pat Buchanan at Taki’s magazine): it’s best that the U.S. and NATO should not intervene militarily. I would send aid to the beleaguered country to fight a guerrilla war. If I were Ukraine, I would purposely pull back its front-line troops, hunker down and prepare for a protracted guerrilla war. The West should assist Ukraine in this strategy.

      1. Simples, Frank – REAL simples:

        1) Defending the freedom of the Ukrainian people: isn’t that what the U.N. was founded to do? But I know as well as you do that the U.N. won’t – which in no way lessens the urgent need to do so, “Pour encourager les autres” (think China and Taiwan). They’ll only stop if we stop them. And,

        2) Vlad the Impaler needs to go. Launching a “just war of retribution against those murderous, ungrateful Ukrainians” would redound BIGLY on Vlad if he got thrown back over his border with egg on his face; and dictators who suffer national embarrassments, infuriate their subjects and often find themselves on their own lampposts. Can’t happen soon enough to him.

      1. Stewart apparently used to build model airplanes. A friend convinced him to try flying the real thing and Stewart became an avid aviator after that.

The Phoenix was an actual aircraft, though, of course, cobbled together using parts from other planes. Stunt pilot Paul Mantz was the pilot, but, during the making of the film, he was killed during production while flying it.

    1. Damn, I have just posted about him few days ago…. such an interesting and great man. Awww, It sucks.

  4. L – Ont. Health Minister qualifies for a Senate appointment and to a place in the Trudeau regimes cabinet. Minister of Censorship in charge of violating Charter Rights and implimentation of Marxist Medicine. Physicians are no longer professionals with a sacred duty
to their patients, but instead a merely medical technicians under the direction of the state.
Doug Ford turned gov’t. over to health bureaucrats. Leaderless in Ontario, a biography…

‘Unacceptable’ for doctors to spread COVID-19 vaccine misinformation: Ontario health minister

Ontario Health Minister Chrstine Elliott on Wednesday addressed reports that doctors were spreading misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines, calling it “unacceptable.” Elliot said she would be sending a letter to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario “urging them to do everything that is possible to put an end to this behaviour.”

    1. Then dumb question of the day.

Even before covid I cannot recollect the last time I went to a hospital emergency department and did not have to wait for at least two hours just to get into triage, then wait another two hours before the attending physician gave me their 3 minute diagnostic analysis which consisted of “we are going to refer you to a specialist”. Then there was the wait to see a specialist at a later date, a much later date.
But a tik tok dance routine?
      Loads of time for that.

  5. Diversity is our strength.

A Gatineau BIPOC-B male ” has been charged with human trafficking and prostitution-related offences, and police say they suspect there may be more victims.”

    And there were earlier charges:
“Jimmy Daquin, who was already in police custody, appeared Wednesday in a Gatineau court. Court records show Daquin was already facing several charges that included assault and forcible confinement.”

    https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/gatineau-man-charged-with-sex-trafficking

      1. BIPOC = Black, Indigenous, People of Colour. It has come into common usage in Canada amongst the politically correct elite as an acronym describing those subject to “systemic racism” and who, consequently, need special privileges (i.e., they have to be given preference over those of other races. In other words, reverse discrimination is to be publicly praised and supported). I added the
“-B” because the individual charged by police can be seen to be Black.

If the elite want to classify us by race to determine how we are treated, we should be as explicit as possible as to what the race is.

  6. A greenie ideologue working for Ottawa Hydro has written an unintentionally revealing and hilarious article about why EVs are the right choice for Canadians, despite the intense cold of our winters. Here are some of the more laughter-inducing suggestions, which she presents in all seriousness:

    > “Similar to gas-powered vehicles, where EVs wane in winter is in their range. Unfortunately, the range of an EV can be cut in half in cold temperatures. ” So what do you do? “Limit your speed whenever possible to achieve greater range.” and don’t forget to “Park your EV in a garage whenever possible in order to protect it from the elements.” And “Keep the battery plugged in at all times when not in use to help keep a full charge.”

    >In an EV electric “power must be specifically consumed for the purposes of generating heat to keep passengers comfortable”. That will reduce the range of the EV. So what to do? “Bundle up and limit your use of the heater while driving.” (I kid you not, she actually says this).

  7. Yes, it is in Maclean’s and it is written by Paul Wells, but it is an insightful and critical article about Justin’s response to the Ukraine crisis. It begins with some humour at the Dear Leader’s expense:

“Certain reflexes are learned from experience, which helps explain why lately I open emails from the Prime Minister’s Office in something approximating the way Jeremy Renner opened packages in The Hurt Locker. A wince, a clench, a glimpse through half-shut eyes: what fresh hell have we here?”

    And another highlight:

“I’m belabouring these old embarrassments [about Justin] because my point here today is to emphasize the gap between the tone the PMO hopes to conjure and the effect it actually produces. On an ordinary day, that gap defines the scale of a farce. On serious days it approaches the tragic.”

    1. It’s renewable coal. When you run out of renewable electricity, you renew you interest in coal.

  8. Ready for an intelligent interview?
Keenan and Alberta Pathologist Dr. Hodgkinson(sp?)

    https://t.co/QW3sioxiEK

So refreshing to hear straight forward and candid information!

Trudeau should be in the middle of these two and asked some questions.

    1. Great interview. Now will the politicians stop harassing and let people be? They’ve forgotten who pays their freight.

  9. Canada’s failure to shut Illegal border crossings has killed four people in southern Manitoba. But don’t expect the Dear Leader to accept any responsibility and apologize.

“The bodies of four people, including an infant and a teen, were found in Manitoba near the United States border in what Mounties believe was a failed crossing attempt during a blizzard.”

    https://ottawacitizen.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/cp-newsalert-four-people-including-baby-found-dead-in-manitoba-near-u-s-border/wcm/5b1225ed-beeb-4d4e-95a4-aea5cf62b8f2

    1. Correction. The Canadian Press is now reporting that the four who died were trying to cross illegally from Canada into the U.S.

“The bodies were found yesterday in Manitoba near the border community of Emerson. Mounties say it’s believed they died from exposure during a blizzard and freezing temperatures while trying to cross the border into the U.S. from Canada.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the dead were a family of four Indian nationals who were separated from others in a group crossing the border.”

      https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/snow-was-very-deep-four-people-including-baby-found-dead-in-manitoba-near-u-s-border

It won’t make any difference to the Dear Leader that a porous border is causing deaths.

  10. Movie alert!

Tomorrow evening, TCM will be showing 3 motorcycle movies. The first one is a cult favourite Electra Glide in Blue with Robert Blake. (Some critics liken it to a modern western.) Next is Easy Rider. (‘Nuff said.) Finally, there’s the original Mad Max.
