  1. I wonder how many Canadians will be trying to scale Trudeau’s vaccination “Berlin Wall” to move to liberal countries in the developing world or free states in the USA.? Or do we have to wait until pharmaceutical companies give the Liberal Party of Canada and the CPC leader permission to “tear down that wall”? Why do Canadians want to keep people who Trudeau insists are “racist, misogynist, science-denying and intolerable” unvaccinated citizens captive in Canada? Letting us fly out and leave the country forever seems like an amicable divorce in this abusive relationship with the Canadian government’s and its intolerant citizens.

    1. Count this Canadian in that group. Looking very seriously at that potential option. If Canadians are going to vote themselves into a dictatorship, they can have it.

      1. I’d love to be out of Canada by the end of the school year. Seriously considering putting the house up for sale in the early spring to be ready to relocate the family out of Canada and Saskatchewan as quickly as possible. .

        1. Same with us.
But having elementary school age kids complicates things quite a bit when considering jurisdictions not called the US.

It’s a difficult process to obtain legal work/residency in the states, unless you get in as a refugee or asylum seeker. I don’t know all the in’s/out’s of it but unless I’m mistaken, you need an offer of employment from there to gain a work visa, which lasts for 5 years and doesn’t guarantee a path to permanent residency. The other problem with that plan is I feel we’re not marketable enough – my wife has a degree and works in municipal govt, and I’m a self taught technician working in automation, skilled but without credentials.

We’ve also thought about liquidating everything and going down to the US for as long as we’re allowed to, hopefully ride out the storm up here. But that’s mostly my wife’s thinking – I don’t see things improving here at all.

If anyone has any advice or knowledge to offer about this process, let me know. All options are on the table – unthinkable 2 years ago, but this country is bound and determined to become a Great White North 3rd world. And least there are other 3rd world countries out there whose governments aren’t actively trying to destroy their citizenry.

          1. Your wife’s degree can be the path, but, she has to gain US employment , from Canada, and if successful, then can pursue a Green Card, which would be good for all the family. However, verify if the new employer is open and welcoming to that idea at the time of the job offer, if not, move on. And they can still change their mind down the road, by the way. It also depends on other vagaries, such as the US gov desire to limit or embrace working visa quotas.
Or you could follow the rules of “creating” a minimum number of US jobs or investing sig funds (a million bucks?) in said venture as part of a GC process.
It ain’t easy and it ain’t cheap. Almost followed the career path there in the 90s.
Until she gets the green card, you cannot legally work there, though you could identify as a Mexican and be a cash gardener

          2. @Ward, Bennett & Mark:

While Trump was still in office I seriously considered USA but since Xiden came to power it’s obvious that America is on a downward spiral + unrecoverable, so it’s not a good choice to ‘expat’ anymore.

Before covid, I was looking at Panama and Costa Rica. Both had reasonable paths to permanent residency, with some money to chip in of course. There are expat communities, websites etc. However, I don’t know lately/covid time if those ‘deals’ are still in place.
Some friends bought a place in Dominican but personally I’m not comfy with being on an island. I prefer the continent hence Panama and Costa Rica.
There were some people mentioning Mexico. Personally I don’t trust Mexico, I still hear in the news weird/wild mishaps of tourists, so no thx.
All this if you’re Canadian-Canadian + disillusioned of what’s going on.

If you’re E European – Canadian (like myself) – I’m seriously considering some warm place SE Europe. Portugal, Greece, Croatia(?). Looked already at different options for Greece, last year at least they had very nice options for permanent residence. However, I heard that recently Greece started with some stupid lock-downs (although lock-downs a la grecque don’t mean much 🙂 ).
I know personally 4 families who already left. Sold everything, container etc. I know many more on the same path, preparing/selling+buying overseas…

My 2 cents, hope it helps!

          3. Its different for us. My husband is a US citizen by birth and carries a US passport, which should be enough. We are actively pursuing this path now.

My brother became a dual US/Cdn citizen years ago which is another option, I think.

    2. Yeah, I’m there too, just have to convince the wife there’s safe enclaves of ex-pats there already. Busarias for one, but there’s more as well.
Just have to get there in the first place, as noted, us heathens are hated so mush by Herr Fuhrer that we won’t let us flee, duss he haft ze Vinal Zolushun?
Anyways, warm temperate climate, English is used everywhere, decent cost of living and have the proof of assets to get permanent residency so long as I can continue collecting my earned gubmint pensions there including OAS. Might as well skim the system as much as possible and pay zero taxes to Canada. Seems like a win-win.

    3. Because Canadians are weak and the communists who rule over us can’t accept that someone disagrees with them.

It’s why the Soviets couldn’t defect without great danger to themselves.

  2. Well…thats half the battle…now to see the same for Canadian Re-Entry.
I’d love to return to Riviera Nayarit – Pureto Vallarta…..Jalisco All in.
    Great resort…& not expensive.

  3. That’s nice. Get back to me when the cartels are crushed.

Moldova also has an incredibly low cost of living, top-notch medical care and some of the best wines on the planet. It’s also much safer than Mexico will be in my lifetime.

This is one of the benefits of being spared a Negro or Indian problem. Even the Soviet Union wasn’t quite so cruel as to allow Aztecs to settle in Moldova.

    1. Good news and bad news … the good news! You probably won’t die of COVID in Mexico. The bad news! You might get killed in cartel crossfire

    2. I would guess Mexico is safe enough in many places, although I am not sure one can safely move around freely generally speaking. This is a limitation. (But great for a week’s spring break vacation, for sure.)

The benefit with some of the Eastern European countries (e.g. Czechia where I live, and presumably Moldava) is the general safety and the ability to travel freely (and safely) almost anywhere, inside and outside of the country. Not much wokeness either, which is an another advantage.

      1. In principle, yes. But Czechia is still an inmate of the prison of nations that is the EU.

Moldova has been spared that, in part because of a large Russian population who have no interest in joining the Fourth Reich.

  4. Thought about it and can understand the sentiment. But I’m going to stay and fight, I think it’s worth it. H

      1. @Lefty and very old white guy,
You have company. I refuse to be chased out of my country. I had several ancestors who gave up their youth, the chance to have a family and to live to old age, actually FIGHTING this kind of Tyranny (2 were under 20 years of age when they died on the beaches of France).

I will not disrespect their gracious sacrifices, by abandoning a country and way of life, they loved enough to make this ultimate sacrifice. I should like to think that others feel much the same way.

  5. Viva Mexico! Who knew they were more civilized than we are? I’ve been in Central Wisconsin for a little over a month and have not worn a mask since crossing the border. Totally optional here. Life is pretty much continuing as normal in most cases. I’m pretty sure I can identify the Democrats. Those choosing to remain masked. Schools are still stupid apparently and I don’t know about working conditions as I’m retired.

  6. A different country? Absolutely!

However, as moving is not an option, my choice is to stay where we are. My hope is that all this dictatorial Baked Potato bullshit will convince the fence sitters and naysayers it’s time to leave the shithole of Canuckistan.

    Buffalo for the win!

  7. Flying to Maz one week from today. We’re booked for return in 3 weeks but with any luck we’ll fail the China Flu test and have to stay longer. We’ve spent enough time in Mexico over the years to have zero fear about living there but the heat in the summer would be a deal breaker for us. We had planned to drive down but I don’t trust Sleepy Joe and the other assorted criminals in his government. If we got through the US and were heading home when Comrade Kamala decided to change their entry rules it could have got real awkward on the south side of the Rio Grande. Maybe next winter.

  8. Mexico does have widespread use of Ivermectin, and their infection rate has dropped way down, so why would they worry about outsiders?

And this is looking more and more attractive. Problem is, being COVID recovered and unvaxxed, how do I get out of Canada? Can’t fly thanks to Justin, and will the US let me drive through?

“In some respects, our move from Muskoka, Canada to Jalisco, Mexico in June 2020 was like that. Conditioned as they are to think of Canada as the best place in the world in which to live, most people don’t consider that a move to a ‘developing country’ can offer a better life. However, that has certainly been the case for us.”

    1. No you can’t enter the US without a vaxxport right now as brandon controls the border. That being said, it is worth a try at some of the small border crossings into states like Idaho from southeast BC or into Montana from Del Bonita AB or south of Consul SK. You may be fortunate to have a border guard that is not too diligent for checking on this. Once in these states, almost nobody is going to care about your ‘vax’ status. If you walk in then it is likely authorities will just haul you back to canuckistanian authorities. Demonrats don’t want white conservative immigrants and Republicans believe the US is full and they would likely be mostly correct.

      1. Are you kidding? Those border guards are bored to tears in those places and would like nothing better than to tear your car down to break the monotony.
Better to go to a crossing with a moderate line-up.

      2. …”not too diligent”…

Prior to this Covid BS, I crossed the border at Eureka, Carway, Del Bonita & Coutts regularly. Never, not once, did I ever experience a lack of diligence on either the US or Canadian sides. I can’t imagine it getting any more relaxed under Covid protocol. There were various reactions to how much stuff you were bringing across but that was the only variable.

    2. Private Plane travel from Canada to Mexico is not banned, that’s how one can get there under the current rules. You only have to pass thru customs IN Mexico, but not on the way out of Venezuela North.
Yeah, it would be expensive, but as a permanent move, it’s not a question.
If I sold out everything, I would be a very wealthy man/couple in Mexico!

      1. True enough, however with a plane like mine, I would need to stop for gas three or four times which means entering the USA, and that needs the vax pass.

I even thought about St. Pierre & Miquelon, which is a short hop from Newfoundland and is French territory. Trouble is, France is as bad, or worse than Canada.

  9. I am trying to figure out how I can make my way to Mexico for an extended stay. Mexico is looking very attractive these days. Getting into the States could be an issue. The clamp down on people driving into the States is I think scheduled for Jan. 22nd. The trucking controversy could change that — or maybe not. Even then, I do not know how carefully they will be checking. Huge pro-freedom protests worldwide also happening on the 22nd and 23rd. Everything is in flux.

  10. Mexico actually treats covid, unlike Canadastan and Merica which basically sends you home to see how you do. Two years and no treatment protocols yet it’s our responsibility to protect our healthcare system-it’s suppose to be the other way around.

  11. I’m:

    1. Too tired and
    2. Too cynical to relocate for political reasons, viz., the current regime of the target country could change, and quickly.

Who on earth could have predicted today’s Australia!?
